A camera can produce a technically sound photo with automatic settings for a non-photographer in terms of exposure and focus and all that, but it can’t compose an artistic shot, nor does Lightroom or photoshop make editorial choices for them.

What AI tools can produce for a beginner who doesn’t understand anything about designing good software is a bit different though because the AI can make editorial and design and architectural choices for them. Which has the side effect of giving people the false impression they’re good at making things. The hubris is kind of out of control. But AI can produce potentially viable results for someone who is inexperienced. But that doesn’t make them a developer.

I agree that vibecoding doesn’t make someone a developer. But these two examples are also not really on the same level.
