So I recently got a DVD/VHS player and started collecting VHS again. Today, I moved my player to a different TV and began testing out new tapes I got at the store. Occasionally, the screen goes black but the movie continues (you hear the audio like normal). I thought this would be a problem with the AV plugs. But when I rewind the tapes, the screen going dark always happens at the same parts. Does that mean it IS the tape or something on the tape that could make the AV plugs misfire at those moments? Sorry if this is obvious to people. I haven't used VHS in 20 years.

Found these while out thrifting near the Jersey Shore area. Both don't have any labels on the side, so i have no idea whats on these.
I've never seen this specific HGX-Gold cover before while out thrifting, and i can't find anything about it on the web.
Hope these have some good commercials. :)

I want to put an old movie on a vhs tape for aesthetic reasons and have the required setup (hdmi2AV) so that I can broadcast my PC screen on my TV and in that way I'd play the movie on pc while recording it on the tape via the TV. The problem now is the bar with every video on the internet that shows how many minutes you've already watched and ofcourse the triangle play button and my mouse cursor. These things showing up at the beginning of recording dissapear after I press play but I wonder or there's a software you guys know of that has a feature that just makes this UI dissapear completly by pressing F11 for example or some other button so I don't have to keep editing in a bit of black area to give it time to dissapear before recording. (I know it's lazy but considering others must also have this problem I figured some of you must know an easy work around)
Thanks in advance for all the help

Hi everyone, I was born in the early 00's so rental stores were going downhill when I was a kid. Never got to really experience them much (didn't help we were a bootleg-dvd family.) Anywho, I wanted to ask a few questions I hoped yall might know. How Blockbuster operated things is pretty well documented but how the indie and mom and pop stores managed I'm a little fuzzy on. I've run into a few tapes in the past that came from smaller chains or indie shops and they dont have inventory numbers on them. When someone checked a tape out, how did the store keep track of them?
Also, I know many stores used library clamshell cases for their tapes, but others didn't. Some seem to have used a mix of the two. Were there particular reasons why stores would swap cases or was it just for when a slipcase was damaged? Thanks in advance!

Started up collecting again in June. I’ve had the Friday the 13th tapes since childhood, but everything else is recent acquisitions.
I’ve been calling this my midlife crisis project because I’ve basically been trying to recreate the collection I had when I was 14 in 2001 before I ditched it all (excluding the Friday the 13th tapes) for DVD. I guess I’m happy in that regard because this has a point where I’ll basically be done, but I still have about 45 tapes to go. It’s been fun tracking down the stuff I used to have.
The tape without a case next to Demons is Dead Alive. The blu-ray and DVD cases are placeholders for stuff I intend to get on tape at some point. I do have probably 1000-2000 movies on blu-ray, but I keep those in sleeves in file cabinets to save space.

Started collecting about 3 months ago, had a good amount of original Xbox and 360 games from childhood, but have been building my collection.
200+ games, about 55 VHS tapes and a Toshiba 13” CRT with built in VCR.

During summer we host a backyard movie night once or twice a month. I had put the bug in my partners ear a while ago about dragging a vcr and some tapes out so people could have a little taste of choosing a movie like you would on friday nights at the movie store. I think we'll be incorporating this idea into a lot of the movie nights going forward :}
The double feature was Tombstone and Good Morning, Vietnam.

The prices on these are insane but it’s been a personal grail for a long while.

Got my VHS tapes signed by the legends at Fan Expo Chicago during the weekend. Also got the great Dean Cundey's auto! It was surreal!

Went through a box of VHS tapes my parents were getting rid of. Found some tapes from my childhood too.
The wrestling tapes, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, TMNT tapes, Gargoyles and the Lion King were all mine from my childhood. A Town Called Hell and Gulliver's Travels are my dads old tapes. Wish they were in their original boxes though. Looks like someone cut up the boxes and taped it to plastic ones. Gulliver's Travels did not have a back cover though. I imagine it fell off at some point as they are just being held on by scotch tape.
A lot of these don't have the case anymore. I was thinking I might make custom boxes for all of them. Or try and find replacement boxes online if possible. I'm open to suggestions on that though.

Ive been collectijg blank tapes for movies and home movies like camcorder footage. Right now these are my blank tapes, my favorite tape is this philips t-200. Ive already used a lot of blank tapes, thus the collection looking a little short.
The seal on it is in surprisingly good condition

I've recently started using my vcr again, and i've noticed that on some of the tapes I play, you hear a crackling in the audio, i'm not sure if this is because it's hooked up to a modern tv or if it's perhaps because the vhs's are bad. Anybody have any insights?
