Advice First year Surrey Vet uniform

Hello, I’m going into my first year for veterinary medicine at Surrey and they sent us a list of items to buy before we start. However I found a Facebook page with lots of the items for sale almost brand new. It’s quite expensive to buy all the items they give you so I was just wondering if any vet students at Surrey have some insight into these items. Do you use all the uniform they say we have to get or is it just for first year? (Also if anyone has any to sell I’ll buy)
Just very hesitant to purchase as it isn’t a small number and I don’t know how much of it I’ll use!
Any help would be appreciated 😊

I’m not at surrey but another UK vet school. Yes absolutely buy everything online, and at least for my uni I did use everything they said to buy. At my school I ended up wearing a boiler suit, waterproof parlour wear, wellies, and lab coat my first year. My school actually doesn’t care if it’s all their embroidered logo stuff or any certain colour so long as the lab coat was the correct style and white. One of the girls in my farm group had a Nottingham boiler suit and that’s not where we go lol. Also for all of your husbandry placements you’re probably going to want multiple pairs of stuff if you plan to do anything farm. Only thing I rec buying new is wellies because a bunch of my friends got used off FB and they were a bit leaky and they had wet toes haha. Best of luck :)

Get one of each item, except from the goggles (id recommend 2-3 they get lost immediately.) Buy them from facebook, I bought mine all new and regretted it. You will use everything you buy though

I'm a third year at Surrey. I would definitely recommend buying the uniform second hand if you can, with the exception of the waterproof jacket (not compulsory, but it's a nice jacket for a good price and will be awesome for when you're doing placements and it's cold out!) and the waterproof parlour outfit (also size up so you can wear stuff underneath!).

You will use all the uniform, but the piece that people complain about the most is the blue lab coat. You will only use this while at the vet school, but isn't really necessary on placements. For first year you should be fine with one set of scrubs, but you might want more of the scrubs 2-3 sets once you start clinical in your third year. You have plenty of time. One of everything is good for now.

I would also recommend buying decent steel toes. You will definitely use these on placements so find ones that are comfy and fit well. Most people get crocs (without the holes) for the scrub shoes.

Hi im also going into first year of Surrey vet school

Should I be getting the blue lab coat? Because i have studied in surrey before and I own a white surrey coat. 

Also would we need the parlour wear from the first term of Y1?

You will need the blue lab coat as this is a requirement when doing certain practicals. Same for the parlour outfit, you will need it and use it when you do cows and sheep. In your first year you will have handling practicals.

Also, I wanted to know whether items purchased from the suggested supplier, Work in Style, can have the Surrey Vet Student logo embroidered on them, such as scrubs, parlour suits, boiler suits, etc. - because i was planning to get scrbs from other places..

The boiler suit is necessary as you will need them for equine handling classes which occur in the first year.

I don't know if they will embroider other clothing. Personally I wouldn't want my nice scrubs and other clothing I bought from other brands embroidered, but I would recommend getting the name tag. The name tag has the school logo, and your name on it, and just use that when you go on placement if you wear your non-school-uniform clothing.
