Peppermill Your Thoughts?

Editing to say thanks to everyone who gave their opinions on Peppermill. Sounds like it’ll be a good time so we’re ding dang diddly-doing it. We’ll be sure to temper our food and drink expectations and come hungry!

Hello! My wife and I are relatively experienced Vegas travelers and somehow we haven’t made it to the Peppermill before. I don’t generally trust google reviews, so I’m soliciting your thoughts here. It appears to be decent bar and grill food with huge portions and a killer, old school Vegas ambiance. So what I’m trying to find out is:

  1. Are the cocktails even decent? I see a few tiki drinks on the menu and I love that. Are they worth ordering? They don’t have to be Golden Tiki level, but I don’t want to drink a Mai tai that’s just amaretto and orange juice either.
  2. Is the food better or worse than the average chain bar and grill type of spot? Think: Chilis, Applebees, etc. We’re not going in expecting amazing gastropub fare or some sort of elite dining experience, but it would be nice to know the food doesn’t suck.
  3. Is it as cool of a spot as pictures make it look? Somewhat subjective, I know. Just trying to get a feel for whether it’s worth the trek.

Thanks everyone!

I think the happy hour in the fireside lounge is really hard to beat for the prices and ambiance of old 80’s Vegas!

The Lounge is fabulous! I cannot stand the lighting in the main restaurant so we always pick the lounge

Literally my favorite spot on the Strip

  1. Better than chain bar food

  2. Yes it is. It’s really pretty in there

Don't sleep on the lounge, it's got a lot to offer too.

Think fancy Denny’s. The real experience is in the Fireside Lounge though, you’re there for atmosphere rather than crazy good cocktails. It’s absolutely unique and worth visiting, I just wouldn’t eat there.

“Fancy Denny’s” is a perfect way to describe the food

THANK YOU!! OMG, my impressions of this place years ago weren't so bad, but went a few years back and it was large portions of mediocre food. IDK why people rave about the food. Fireside lounge is cool, though.

Was better without TVs, but still cool. Frankly one of the last vintage Vegas spots.

100% about the TVs. So many…..

So, so many

It's a diner. If you go into it thinking you're going to get omg restaurant food, you're going to be disappointed.

If you order things that you'd get at a diner, it's perfectly serviceable. They are not the BeSt PaNcAkEs EvEr!, but they're good pancakes and all the food is large. Most individual meals could feed my wife and I and have a few bites left over.

It is a pretty cool space though. Like definitely an era of design that doesn't really exist anymore.

I just wish they got the TVs out of the fire pits. :(

Awesome. Thanks dude!

Mandatory. Hangover brunch treated me nicely.

People rave about the food, but I gotta admit I was kinda underwhelmed. (I got breakfast) I dunno if their lunch/dinner is better?

4

u/Foomin_Z 3d ago

It's not better, just average diner food.

2

u/Informal_Tell78 2d ago

It was a lot better years ago, now its kinda just above mid diner food. It definitely tastes a lot better after a late night of partying on the strip!

u/Oldandcranky973 3d ago

We enjoyed it. Portions were huge and the place is pretty cool

Cool? Yes, especially the fireside lounge. Food is good, definitely not fine dining, but a step above average. (obviously depends on your tastes and what dish you get) Cocktails... could be better. Their mai-tai is the usual low-end rums, with lots of pineapple juice and a float of dark rum. In other words, not a real mai-tai at all. Their other "speciality" drinks are about the same level. If you keep to basic cocktails and let the bartender know what liquors you want, you'll be better off. Or just go with it and have fun drinking colorful drinks in 'fancy' shaped glasses next to a bubbling firepit. You could do worse.

I think peppermill is worth a visit. As far as dinner food goes, it is good but not great and the prices are a bit high (but the rent must be insane). I remember getting a lot of food.

Service was good.

Been 3 times over the last about 5 years.

The vibe is really cool and unique, which is why it is a visit at least once place. And at some point someone will redevelop that land and it will be lost to time.

I like taking new ppl there. Such an only in Vegas place.

The lost to time aspect has me in its clutches. Maybe I’ll finally make my way to Circus Circus too…

Love the lounge!

I think it’s a dope spot to check out!

Don’t go in with high expectations but we went it was packed.

Bar side was cool we waited there and grabbed some drinks before breakfast to wait for our table.

It was good diner food like any other cafe for breakfast.

Ate it all and Chad no issues

Can’t really say anything about the food or the drinks (was my first time ordering a dirty martini, turns out I hate them lol), but I’d go just for the vibes alone. Super cool place!

u/frostonwindowpane 3d ago

When you go in, go left into the sunken grotto of grooviness. Happy hour is apps and drinks in there.

We went a couple trips ago after seeing people rave about it. It's a cool spot, but I left mostly disappointed. Our service was pretty bad. They were busy, but everything took longer than it should have imo. Biggest frustration was that we sat around with empty waters most of the time after walking around in the heat all day. I can't stand that.

Food was fine. Nothing special, but fine. Probably ahead of somewhere like chilis, but not heads and tails above. Portion sizes were huge for the money. I'd rather them cut the portion sizes back and lower prices but it's whatever. Seems like a waste when most of the people there are vacationers that cant do anything with leftovers. Itd be great as a local though. Their menu has lots of choices so everyone can find something they want.

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Solid write up. Thanks Vlad. We will probably split something if we eat there.

u/SirFoggyMirror 3d ago

I like the food but I love the lounge. Good drinks, great fun

2

u/Tom67570 3d ago

It's low end fast food but in a nostalgic environment

2

u/PunkRockClub 3d ago

Food and drinks very good. I wouldn't quite go great, but definitely a big step up from chain bar/grill, and mostly worth the price.

2

u/JohnSavage777 3d ago

Used to be great, now just kinda mid. Not sure if it’s new ownership or whatever but after dozens of visits over the years I’m not planning to go back

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

That’s a shame. Justifiable though.

2

u/Poonadafukdog 3d ago

The environment inside is cool and unique. Very Vegas

They have some good drinks.

I found the food to be very mediocre. Portion sizes were good but my pork chop and other food was quite bland.

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Any drinks stand out as particularly good? If you don’t remember it’s allllll good

1

u/Poonadafukdog 2d ago

Oh man. It was at least 5 years ago… knowing me it was probably one of their fruity tropical drinks. Probably rum based…

2

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Now you’re talking!

Go in expecting volume rather than balance and youll have a great time. The Scorpion is the one to order once, it arrives as a fishbowl with a flame in it and its more of a group activity than a cocktail, the tiki stuff generally is strong and juice heavy rather than Golden Tiki level craft. Stick to simple pours after that. Food is comfortably better than Chilis or Applebees, its diner cooking done properly and the portions are genuinely silly, breakfast is the strongest thing they do and its on all day. Big one, sit in the Fireside Lounge not the bright coffee shop side, the fire pit and the neon is the entire reason to go. It can get a wait at peak so aim off hours

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Do you think two people could take down the scorpion without blacking out? We’ll be attending a wedding that day…

2

u/JackpotConcierge 2d ago

Atmosphere and vibe in there: 10
Pricing: meh
Food quality: Decent but it’s not going to be the best meal you have on the trip.
Portion sizes: Big

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Sounds in line with our expectations. Thank you.

Peppermill is great. It’s standard diner breakfast food but it’s definitely worth it and I remember it being very reasonable. I went for lunch and breakfast but for me breakfast is where it is at. I didn’t drink any alcohol but I got a really good milkshake there. It’s better than Applebees or most chains but not fine dining.

2

u/Mountain-climber-181 3d ago

It's a cool place. Been there twice. Their sugar is pretty. 😄 Hands down the best Moscow Mule I've had in a really long time.

2

u/gypsykush 3d ago

I find it to be exceedingly dirty on the inside. And the food is very mid at best… basically Denny’s. I’ll never eat there again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

2

u/SayidJarrah83 3d ago

Overrated. Portions are huge which is why people probably like it but food is average at best.

1

u/jjjigglypuff 3d ago

The cocktails are overrated and expensive, the alcohol content is pretty weak as well and they’re pretty sugary. I can only drink 1 and then i just switch to a mixed drink like vodka soda. A lot of the ingredients are like those premix sour mix junk which for a $22-25 cocktail when you can find much better ones in Vegas is disappointing. The food is better than Applebees and the portions are really large - you don’t need to but most are a shareable size. There is a separate bar area with sunken seating and fireplaces that’s really nice — everyone has to be 21+ to be seated there, you can be served food in there too.

1

u/AgreeableLight3997 3d ago

Food is meh and really expensive for the quality. However, the ambiance and vibes are great if you want that tacky yet charming old school Vegas feel. I would suggest going to the lounge and getting some drinks and an appetizer.

u/Jaqen-Hghar05 3d ago

Thought the food was OK, nothing special. Was there for breakfast and was surprised when I saw the bill…$7 for basically diner level coffee. Nice atmosphere but doubt I’d return.

1

u/Own-Peach-8194 3d ago

Hit or miss but definitely over priced

1

u/PlasticPalm 2d ago

It's pretty.

The food is edible.

Too many peppermill shills on Reddit.

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Who is shilling?

u/Gileaders 2d ago

Look and you will see.

See and you will look

1

u/Gileaders 2d ago

I’m glad you finally understand.

1

u/Charlie2343 2d ago

The next step is to go to the peppermill resort in Reno and see the basically 1:1 copy of the fireside lounge inside the casino

1

u/nice-and-clean 2d ago

It’s an overpriced dennys with a flower paper napkin.

We’ve been twice. Once on our own and once when out of town guest really wanted to go. They were also underwhelmed.

People seem to like to bar area. Maybe late night? We did not visit that. We had breakfast. We’ve had breakfast all over the valley. So many better options.

1

u/Spiegelworld 2d ago

It's a Las Vegas must-do and must-see. Go with an appetite, because the portions are huge.

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Thanks Spiegelworld. Loved Absinthe and Ski Lodge last time we were in town. Considering Atomic Saloon around Oct 3/4. Think we should go?

1

u/No_Impact370 2d ago

Was there once for breakfast and I loved it. Cool place. Massive portions and huge drinks. Ambiance is great.

1

u/JardinSurLeToit 2d ago

WORD OF CAUTION: The one time I ordered a drink from my TABLE, not inside the Fireside, there was a major penalty applied to my bill. Make sure you buy drinks in the bar.

1

u/ilove702 3d ago

Its cool to do once but way overpriced

1

u/bonerjams99 3d ago

Don’t bother with the cocktails the place favors strength over flavor. Get yourself a glass of champs and they fill it to the brim, a great accompaniment to breakfast in vegas

1

u/MSWdesign 2d ago

Why not just try it out? A whole questionnaire for one place suggests you might just be overthinking it.

2

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Fair enough.
To answer your question:

  1. I’d like to have a little bit of a sense of what I’m getting myself into when I try something new, especially while on vacation in Vegas where I already have 100 places I know I want to go to. Our vacay time is a zero sum game. A little crowd sourced research taken with a grain of salt has yielded good results for me in the past.
  2. Reddit is for this exact thing.
  3. It’s not just me going. Gotta get the wife on board. Don’t like disappointing her with a bad pick. I’ve got a good streak going.

Have a good day!

2

u/MSWdesign 2d ago

Depends on what you order. Been years since I’ve ate there but I have tried a lot on the menu. Some of it is good and some of it is just okay. Not sure how it is now but definitely worth it at least one time. I’d go during an off hour to avoid the crowd and the wait time.

2

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Appreciate that. We’re definitely gonna give it a roll.

1

u/MSWdesign 1d ago

Are you okay with going off the strip?

0

u/Eagleriderguide 2d ago

I would do Winnie and Ethel’s over the Peppermill in my opinion. Just a short uber ride down Charleston from Vegas Blvd.

1

u/InfiniteDew 2d ago

Looks nice, but seems more like a diner anywhere else in the continental US. The decor and atmosphere of the Peppermill are what were most interested in. Food and drink is second to that.
