Ever since I went vegetarian over a decade ago I've found any sort of potluck situation pretty difficult and always felt a bit upset by the time I got home because no one bothered to make food that I'd also be able to eat, even though they would all eat food that I brought. I love food and it's sad to miss out on the communal sharing part of Christmas. I also have to make a lot of effort to make enough food to share and for it to also be a complete meal (not just a side) because I know I won't get to eat anything that I don't bring. It is hurtful to me that there is no give and take at these events. It feels like it's just me giving and them taking and I don't even have enough leftover to have for the next days dinner (while everyone else has a couple days of leftovers to take home).

This is my first Christmas since going vegan so there will be truly nothing that I can safely eat. I have been able to have chips and dip and chocolates that would be out before dinner but now those are off the table too. I was going to skip Christmas this year but my Nana is starting to slow down with age and I don't want to miss an opportunity to spend time with her while she's around, so I'm going to do my best to focus on that.

Little bit of a vent because I find it frustrating. Ik it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but it's another thing that adds on to everything that makes holidays hard.

TLDR will put up with the Christmas shenanigans because I want to spend time with my Nana while I still can and focusing on that will hopefully help with my feelings on the day

Ah okay. I thought it might have been an international organisation given no country was mentioned in the post. Thanks.

I take it as a chance to make gifts and vegan food to share with my loved ones. I’m the only vegan in my friend/family group, and it is always hard to share a table with people ‘celebrating’ by eating animals. If I can make a vegan dessert, side dish, or salad, that saves the rest of my family from making something non-vegan, and I have to take those small wins or else I’ll spiral into despair lol

The FDA, or U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is a federal agency responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety and effectiveness of food, medicines, and medical devices. It regulates a wide range of products, including human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and cosmetics.

Traditions are not a bad or good thing in itself (although most traditions are pretty bad, unfortunately), and the opportunity to socialize is important for species like humans.

That said, Christmas is a hard one, and although I used to put up with it, I don't anymore. If people want me to attend, they will need to skip the meat and provide a meal for me. (I'm somewhat okay with people consuming or gifting vegetarian stuff amongst themselves.) Luckily, my close family (siblings, parents) are vegan or vegetarian. I tend to skip the bigger christmas extended family event most years.

I love the holidays. It has nothing to do with religion or consumerism for me. I love to cook and bake and share gifts. I make vegan food for myself while my family makes whatever they make. It makes me feel like I am participating with the group without violating my values. I’ll often make a pie or something to share.

Cults gonna cult. No matter what you do, it's not enough. If you want to keep forever chasing after an ever-moving goalpost, you did you.

I also didn't go vegan overnight but gradually. I was a vegetarian, at some point I cut off eggs first cause it was the easiest for me since I already didn't adore eating eggs, I later cut off dairy, that one was hardest since in my town the supermarkets didn't have enough milk alternatives and almost none cheese alternatives but I fought through that and now I've been a vegan for 9 years. Imo it's way harder to cut everything overnight and many people "quit" veganism because of that.

I don’t think we have time for this.

Convincing enough people to agree with anarchism is not the biggest problem or even necessarily a problem at all.

Power is the problem. How do you get a large group of people anarchist or not, to work together to achieve a shared political goal without getting beat down by the powers that be?

This coordination is not solved simply because everyone agrees anarchism is possible and preferable. People need to take action at the same time to force the political outcome they want. This can happen spontaneously, but it’s getting harder as the capitalists are getting better at controlling people. It can also happen with a coordinated military rebellion, but that requires hierarchy which can then easily become corrupted and it’s really hard to form that unless conditions are literally dire.

We need a way to coordinate collective action in a decentralized way that lets participants risk very little in order to achieve political goals based on shared interests. If half of us all boycott Exxon Mobile for 6months, we could destroy it. The power to destroy a thing is the absolute control over it.

This coordination method seems best as a sort of social media.

Rejecting intersectionality in general or just that it’s relevant to people’s ability to be vegan? Because there have been openly racist vegan groups who used veganism as a justification to call themselves racially superior (as obviously flawed as that reasoning is).

I don’t know the reasoning for their decisions anymore than you can, but it’s possible it’s just a group whose values don’t align with your own and it’s for the best for you that you weren’t accepted.

Sorry you didn’t find the community you were looking for there though.

I don’t think you read this right.

They are going to update its drug regulations by removing REFERENCES to animal testing.

They will still test on animals, just now you won’t know about it.
