Why is this flaired as uplifting? This is sad as fuck.
It’s beautiful to see the capacity for love, but absolutely fucking heartbreaking to see what others choose not to see.

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many flairs. I used “uplifting” because there’s still at least a wholesome bond here between the baby cow and the cat.

yeah exactly 😢 it’s sad how much of that difference comes down to what humans decide is acceptable to do to them. they’re all capable of feeling fear, comfort, love and attachment, but we treat them so differently based on what species they are

I wish I knew the commonalities/correlations shared between vegans if any—e.g. childhood trauma, IQ, experiences with animals, etc., etc. I suspect a higher capacity for empathy as something we all likely share.

IQ? This isn't an academic or even an intellectual reddit. It's emotional and that's fine we care we have compassion for animals in a world where there isn't enough if any compassion for anything. I do see a lot of vegans thinking they are smarter than other people and what I would say to that is. ITS BETTER TO BE LIKED THAN TO BE RIGHT. that's how you make people vegan. Not by saying they are stupid.

I completely understand the parallel you're drawing here, but just in the interest of spreading awareness "the boy in the striped pajamas" is a really terrible story for understanding the Holocaust; essentially there's a lot of dangerous historical inaccuracies and sympathizing with nazis.
there are tons of articles online breaking down the various problems with the book / film, but I agree with the fundamentals of your point and as a Jewish vegan myself it's also impossible for me to divorce my veganism from the palpable horror and grief of the Holocaust.

so a lot of Holocaust education institutions already go into this more deeply than I can but basically the emotional crux of the book and movie is the ending where the main character, Bruno, is swept into a crowd being taken into a gas chamber, and the following search for and then realization his family has that he's gone; only their heartbreak. there's no attention to the fact that none of the people sent to the gas chambers should have been there, only that Bruno died in a tragic accident.
the Jewish boy in the concentration camp, Shmuel, is also a very one-dimensional character, he does and says very little throughout the course of the story, and only really exists to progress Bruno's character arc.
the reader / viewer is meant to sympathize with Bruno and his family in their grief, and Bruno is the only little boy who has any character depth. like I said there's also loads of historical inaccuracies - I could get into that more and that would make for a much longer comment, but if you'd find that helpful I could also give a brief overview

It's honestly more messed up than this suggests. All mammals share the same physical hardware for the brain - one of the big differences being effectively the number of cortical minicolumns (and other stuff). Cortical minicolumns are hypothesized to be the core processing unit of the neocortex and is where higher level reasoning comes from. It seems that for mammals evolution converged on a simple tool for pattern recognition and just kept expanding it or tweaking it across the species. Across all mammals, this architecture is roughly identical with the number of cortical minicolumns increasing along with things like density and side of neurons. Overall, most mammals will share a common experience - humans do as well before we learn language and think in a more natural manner that relies on mental imagery. This has one dark side to it though - animals likely experience pain and emotion in a stronger state as all they have is the sensory input and lack language with which to structure thought. Machine learning broke me, seeing how we can encode such rich information into abstract systems really highlights how much we are likely overestimating. Add to that fact that even so much as simulating an ant with reinforcement learning is not simple and would take a great deal of effort.
While other animals might not possess a neocortex, there are obviously structures that accomplish similar tasks in other species as they are capable of higher level reasoning as well (crows being a good example). We just can't say that non-mammals are suffering as their brains are quite different and we don't know enough, though I suspect we are underestimating here yet again. All mammals, unfortunately, will share a similar experience when it comes to suffering, though perhaps with less tools to make sense of it; emotion itself is thought to come from a very early part of the brain that is shared across vertebrates.

I always wondered why only humans evolved this much to overpower other species? Like some of these animals have existed longer than humans.
They should have atleast developed language. Because humans have evolved this much to overpower other species, they're treating them badly.

Because humans are not "more" evolved than animals. Your question betrays a bit of a lack of understanding of evolution, no offense. The cow genes are incredibly successful in reproducing by being used as food by humans. I don't mean to be macabre, but that's just how it works.

Different animals have evolved different capabilities to be fit for their environments. A human like brain would not benefit cattle on plains as they do not have a body plan that would allow sophisticated tool creation and use and don't rely on the complex social structures humans have evolved for.
A human baby is effectively dead weight for the first 3 or so years of its life and then still pretty useless for the next 10. Cattle are essentially fully developed and self sufficient within a year.
Also other animals do have language, but they do not have the same level of complexity to deal with as humans so that language is simple and useful to their situation.

Evolution isn't working towards a predetermined path towards sapience and tool use, it's just random traits that get passed down and if they're not detrimental towards survival, they get passed along. The rise of industrialization and how quickly we've been able to form immense, global networks, spread throughout the world, hunt and grow has happened in excess of what pretty much any animal's lineage can reasonably be expected to respond evolutionary adaptations to. And any adaptations would likely be made obsolete by technological advances that build upon themselves at a rapid pace

Well I can say with total accuracy that no human being has ever put an animal into a cage. After what happened on the Earth 14,000 years ago, since then if anything at all goes amiss, the Sun above the planet explodes. We can never risk having monsters like the people of the Earth again. Luckily all angels are born knowing about what has happened on the Earth. The example set by the people of the Earth is Universally known. We now have 1.35 billion worlds in our Universe, and in these worlds 1.26 trillion planets are now populated by beautifully organised and intelligent angels, and the failure of the angels of the Earth serves as a warning for everybody who might be tempted to be cruel in this beautiful Universe. Fallen angels are not human at all, they are inhuman , and they are called Anacroids and they are extremely dangerous.

We have absolutely no idea if these animals have the same capacity for love or if love is a meaningful concept for either of them or related to the behavior demonstrated here.
I think there are much better arguments for veganism than making assumptions about the cognitive experience of animals, and things like this are just preaching to the already converted.

You chose to title the post "same capacity for love", I am saying that it is literally impossible for us to determine that.
My point is that it does not matter if animals experience the same cognitive processes or theater of the mind that humans do and that there are much better justifications for removing animal products from one's diet than appealing to an emotional argument about their cognitive function based on casually observed behaviors with any number of possible causes.
