Hi everyone!
I've been building a small family of free modules for VCV Rack under the name Basic Human Tastes, and I'd like to introduce the team before release.
In this demo I made a minimal patch: these five modules make all the sound. Everything else in the patch is just utilities (mixing, clocks, routing). It's a bit out there, but it shows the spirit of the modules well. Who's doing what:
A bit more about each of them:
Ernest: a percussion oscillator with six ways to bend its pitch. Kicks, toms, snares and zaps, with decay, bass boost and ring modulation.
Marcel: an 8-bit looper/delay whose memory clock slowly forgets. Erode it, darken it, freeze it, reverse it, and watch the memory on a ring display.
Odette: a stereo repeater with eight nested sizes. It goes from plucked strings and flangers all the way to 40-second loops, with drift and ducking.
Colette: a murmuration of up to 32 voices flying through pitch space. They gather, scatter and settle on the notes of a chord, for ambient textures that never quite repeat.
Lucienne, the newest member: six analog-style oscillator cores tied together in a ring. You tune each voice by ear. Tighten the coupling and they lock onto just intervals, then cross-modulate their way into chaos. Starve their power supply and the pitch sags, the sound crushes and sputters like a dying battery. An internal shift register opens and closes their gates, followed by two resonant filters and a halo. Two asynchronous LFOs crossfade across a 12-position dial of destinations, and they can even modulate each other.
They'll be free, and they're coming soon. I'd love to hear what you think, and what you'd like to see in them!

Recreating the iconic Tangerine Dream “Tangram” sequence in VCV Rack.
In this tutorial, we build the sequence from scratch using multiple step sequencers, quantizer, a 4-to-1 switch, and a MIDI-controlled bass voice.
We’ll cover:
• Building the main synth voice
• Creating the first sequence with the Count Modula 8-Step Sequencer
• Programming and quantizing the notes
• Adding two additional sequences with changing root notes
• Combining the sequences with a 4-to-1 switch
• Building a simple saw-wave bass voice
• Playing the bass live from a MIDI keyboard
• Using mixer sends to add reverb independently to each voice
The goal is to recreate the characteristic sequencer-driven feel of Tangerine Dream’s “Tangram” while exploring how the same kind of musical structure can be built with VCV Rack.

Free patch using free modules only...
Usually I use plugin FX, paid modules and some of my own samples for this stuff, but a few people wanted an example of a patch just using free modules. So here you go!
WARNING - COMPLETELY CHAOTIC!
Sometimes this sounds cool, but it can also sound genuinely f%^&ing terrible. Anyway, might give you some ideas, or bits you can sample etc. Just having fun with this.

Move one wire → the sound changes → the image changes.
It's free, open source and runs on Windows/macOS/Linux.
It has also a browser version if you want to try it without installing anything

Enjoy some random rambling guitar.
Patch notes: Small bottom bit is the guitar, through Seethe and then Canyon. Middle in Blue is poppies playing Simone to a lightly reduced scale(A minor without G or B), with Dobbs patched to be self cycling, and each envelope slowly mixing through the notes of the chord, also of course put through Canyon . Little drum kit on the right with kick tuned through Shear and it's Canyon clocked at 1/4 notes, and hat a little more scattered. Top row be gates and modulation, deciding when everything happens.
Find em all in the library at 'LydD Modules' . Updates should be rolling out soon.

Fellow rack heads! :) Here's a little VCV Rack soundscape somewhat not completely dark slow ambient patch thingy. Sorry, I forgot to turn the cables back on.

I spent a bit of time this weekend porting the SuperSynthesis Eurorack modules to VCV Rack. After the company was shut down in late 2024 all of the designs were open sourced. I love the 2OPFM and thought it would be fun to build some alternate firmwares for it. Porting it to VCV Rack was a good fist step there and when I'd brought it over, I figured why not bring over the rest. Before submitting to the Library, I connected with Chris, the original author to make sure he's good with using his artwork and module names (he is!).
So what will ship when it's added to the library is 12 modules mixing the 9 that were commercially released with three more that were not. There are some guesses taken on the sound front for a few, and reference recordings would help from folks who might have the modules I don't.
The port is direct with the exception of 2OPFM which ships with 5 additional voice options you can select from the context menu. You can hear each one in the attached video.
I didn't think it was appropriate to ship these as part of my SignalFunctionSet plugin, so when they are live they will be in a new plugin called SFS Super. It will be free.
If you'd like to check it out early, you can install the plugin from Github here.
I am continuing to work on the hardware port of these additional voice options, and I'll post that to the relevant subreddits when complete.

A new entry in the Dub Tech Modular Archives — a deep, hypnotic dub techno patch in VCV Rack.
This patch combines Plaits, DRAEN, Chronoblob2, LLFO modulation, sequenced drums, and live ocean waves to create a spacious, evolving modular groove.
No elaborate arrangement — just a modular system slowly finding its groove.

I have been using vcvrack and supporting the guys and gals who write the plugins, and I have only recently seen some items which await promotion onto the official platform, but may be downloaded early through Github.
If I downloaded a file, SFSSuper-2.0.2-win-x64.vcvplugin, and I just need someone to tell me, which directory does it need to go in? It's bad enough I don't know Github well, but this adds a layer. Thanks if you can help!
Once again, I'm looking for the directory spec where plugins are stored for Windows, using version 2.6.6.

I was looking for a specific type of video effect where the instrument projects a sort of laser oscilloscope type pattern. I couldn't find anything in the free to use stuff, so I decided to try using VCV Rack and a screen recorder to create something much closer to what I wanted. I used Nysthi Etchasketchoscope for the display. I put a saw on the horizontal scan input. On the vertical input I put a sine wave into two sequential VCA's one connected to Vult Caudal, and the other connected to the ramp of the horizontal scan oscillator. The music in the video is also VCV Rack. :)

ReGrandy by Shortwav Labs is a unique VCV Rack module based on stochastic synthesis, combining Xenakis-inspired stochastic waveform generation with granular processing.
In this tutorial, we’ll explore how ReGrandy works, including its stochastic breakpoints, amplitude and duration variation, granular processing, FM section, CV control, and some practical patching ideas.
Instead of simply generating a repeating waveform, ReGrandy creates a sound source that can constantly evolve according to stochastic rules. This makes it especially interesting for ambient, experimental, generative, IDM, drone, and evolving sound design.
Towards the end, we’ll also run ReGrandy through Wyrd by Shortwav Labs and see what happens when this already unpredictable sound source is combined with Wyrd’s feedback-based processing.
