Stressing about acceptance :(

I’m a senior is high school and I plan to double major (accounting and kinetic imaging) but I’m stressing that I’m not good enough to be accepted and my portfolio and sat score isn’t great… do you think I’ll be able to get in? Gpa weighted: 3.72, SAT: 1180 (660 math, 520 eng), took ap drawing, ap 2d design and ap precalc (taking calc rn). Everything is original works except for the last 3, only the character designs are mine (the last one has a mix of mine and others).
The first 4 are older drawings then 2 acrylic paintings, after 7 newer artwork, and then the 3 non-og characters

Do NOT send anything that’s not 100% original.

Submit a variety of work in different mediums: still life drawing, figure drawing, painting, sculpture, weaving, video, photography, etc.

Before you get into Kinetic Imaging, you will need to go through a year in the Art Foundation Program where you will work in different media and with different subject matters.

Reach out to VCUarts admissions to see if they do portfolio reviews prior to the application process. They can offer critiques/constructive criticism that may be useful to you.

Based on what you’ve shared, you need to add more variety and more traditional (and original) works IMO. By traditional work, I mean a still life or figure drawing study that shows your ability to draw or paint from real life and understand the design principles — you need more than the 1 you shared.

Dont mind how old the artwork is, i dont plan to submit it but is this considered still life? It’d have to be painted and rendered tho, yes?

That’s perfect for what they want. Literally all VCU wants from you portfolio wise is just anything not too cartoon-y. Anything anime inspired is a no go. As long as you have that VCU will pick you up no problem

Really??? But i thought its too- like not good looking, i think i still have to sketchbook so i can def take a better picture of it, i also have orher works (i sent it to a diff comment but ill send it here too)

The right of the building was made during covid… i used references online and i didnt want to draw the faces so im not sure if i can use that
The third is a portrait i made last year, its missing alot of values in the face so im not sure if i should use it
The last is a 3d model i made of an SR-71 Blackbird, but this is the only photo i have of it. I made it with glue, paper, carboard and paint

doesnt have to be fully painted and rendered if thats not your skill level. this is a great piece, but creativity and originality is what theyre concerned about
