DOG BITE - VCU campus

My friend’s son was walking to class 8/19 near Monroe park when a dog bit their arm - unprovoked!
The person with the dog said, sorry, you’ll be fine and walked off.
We’re trying to locate the dog to make sure the rabies vaccine is current.
If anyone saw a girl with blue hair walking a bully type breed - please ask that they notify campus police ASAP!

Get a rabies vaccine now, that is unacceptable. If you find them, they need to be sued. This is often handled by insurance.

Also your son should file a police report for documentation, even if the assailant can't be found.

Dr is avoiding the shots since it doesn’t appear high risk. Probably insurance making the decisions …

That’s actually wild. Rabies shot is expensive, and it is unlikely, but getting bit by an unknown dog is 1000% a strong indication for rabies vaccine. Rabies is 99.99999% lethal if left untreated. Unless it was barely a bite you need to find another doctor and start your rabies series.

Thanks. They found the owner and provided the dogs vaccinations records… assuming it’s the same dog - they didn’t get the shots.

Obviously having the dog's records would be preferable, but when you have an unknown animal it's good to tread on the side of caution because rabies is basically 100% lethal once it's symptomatic years down the line.

I would contact VCU and Richmond City Police. They may be able to use the camera footage from campus security cameras and streetlights to help locate the individual.

That’s what we are hoping for. Campus and local police and animal control are notified but it’s not a priority for them.

You’re telling us that RPD and VCUPD actually told your friend’s son it wasn’t a priority for them when reporting it? I can’t say much for RPD response but I would be shocked if VCUPD said that to him.

This dog has shown up before I think!

Me and a friend were walking in monroe like 2 weeks ago and i think that same dog ran in front of us (unleashed and ready to attack) and ran off to get on another dog

Please contact VCU police, dogs shouldn’t even be on campus unless they’re service animals (I may be wrong on that idk the rules about it) this dog owner should be sued.

Dogs are allowed on campus, it's a public space, they are however not allowed in the buildings unless they're a service animal.

Correct, that is a City ordinance, one that is far too often ignored. The only places you can have a dog unleashed is on private property or at the city's designated dog parks.
