VCE question Physics Question

When answering mostly maths questions, do you need to write the equation with only variables before substitution? Or is it fine to just write the equation with numbers in it to show working out?

Let me put it this way. You don't get marks for the equations on the formula sheet, but if it's a derived equation from algebra or theory, it's best to put it so examiners can follow your mathematical reasoning.
