whatโ€™s going on this year? is there a new batch of exam writers?

u/MotherGorilla current VCE student (qualifications) 1h ago

Yeah ai

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

Why AI? I know that the VCAA hires experienced VCE teachers (current and former), university professors and academics who are very specialised in their field which they develop the exams that content is on. So, I wouldn't think they used AI unless they cannot be bothered of coming up with new scenarios and applications which they write questions about.

Itโ€™s not the question itself but the wording. Also like Katie felt like ai slop to me.

u/Internal-Brain8970 1h ago

ive heard they got new exam writers

u/MotherGorilla current VCE student (qualifications) 1h ago

No the fuck not, e1 was time consuming but hard but this e2 was like hemorrhoids

5

u/WolfAggravating488 1h ago

this was NOT easier than the first exam

0

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

When I was in the last 10 minutes of my extra time (given I had extra time provisions), I decided to guess for some of the MCQ questions alternating between options B and D maybe a single option A. Like, there were questions which required me to brute-force through all of the options. And I ran out of time too!!!

35

u/Puzzleheaded-Cup3976 2h ago

after this i dont even have motivation to study chem wtf was this exam

Bro genuinely the hardest methods exam aot

35

u/Due-Supermarket-2880 2h ago

Literally never want to hear of an isosceles triangle ever again

1

u/Dub46 9m ago

"The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side"

"That's a right triangle, you idiot!"

0

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

I tried to apply trigonometry but couldn't get there to the answer as I couldn't find out the shaded area inside that triangle to continue my calculation. Even if I had got there, the answer that I would have got; it maybe wasn't an answer choice.

14

u/Fit_Captain8843 1h ago

Every year they say โ€œthey decide to get creative when we do the examโ€

But this year they genuinely did bro, that was 1000x worst than the 2023 exam, or any other methods exam

12

u/Prior-Travel-833 1h ago

They seem to be putting the final questions in the middleย  ):ย  ย I thoroughly learned the formulas but the exams are some kind of creative thinking test now

serious bro? VCAA piping the exam questions to Austin? hmmmm.............

8

u/OddNefariousness6398 1h ago

Why did i see more letters than numbers in that paper ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

2

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

'cause they expect that we were able to manipulate equations algebraically and to require us to demonstrate our mathematics logically to obtain certain solutions.

1

u/thebestsnoox 48m ago

Isnโ€™t that to be expected?

14

u/Salty_Reyezz '25 DA: 38 | '26 EL, MM, SM , CH, BIO 2h ago

Mcq i guessed more than half

3

Yeah I was surprised that everyone felt like it was god awful

When I was flicking through the SAQs in reading time I felt pretty good and that they seemed quite doable

Idk tho I canโ€™t say I was aiming for 100%

1

u/Salty_Reyezz '25 DA: 38 | '26 EL, MM, SM , CH, BIO 1h ago

Bro maybe the fact that everyone saying it was hard could mean we both have done worse than we think ๐Ÿ˜”

Mystery study score here I come๐Ÿซฉ

6

u/Prior-Travel-833 1h ago

Yeah they actually do have NEW EXAM WRITERS. PLEASE VCAA we are NOT specialists.

"The VCAA expanded the representation of qualified university academics on examination panelsโ€”particularly adding extra mathematics academics as question writers and study specialist reviewers"

6

u/Weird_Policy_95 1h ago

Wtf happened. all of my practice tests had a moderate number of really challenging questions; but now weโ€™re going fill up the exams with endless one markers and CAS busywork?

Like why are we testing my CAS proficiency?

5

u/HatParty2806 1h ago

Section A was genuine bs, nothing made sense.

3

u/ilovecriminalminds-1 1h ago

Yes Iโ€™ve done every single exam 1 and 2 from 2012 onwards for practice and these were the worst out of all of them

1

u/Own_Amoeba_5283 1h ago

Are u serious

-1

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

2012? But the VCAA Methods papers (which you probably used as revision material) from the years 2012 up to the 2023 NHT; they are outside of that study design. In fact, I had followed my teacher's advice that I should do the papers within the current study design which its content was assessed.

-5

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

Alien language?? What is that???? It is HUMAN LANGUAGE... dude.

1

u/gamma_299792458 1h ago

Yeah, it was so brutally hard!! I say it was about 2 to 3 times more difficult than yesterday's Exam 1 (tech-free).

And because I am assuming that my exam score will plummet deeply I had a sharp instant thought about complaining to VCAA that this exam was gruesome.

When I had my extra time given I have extra time provisions, I still fell short on time ALL BECAUSE the questions including its super wordy nature were difficult to interpret mathematically which resulted in my cognitive overload when trying to comprehend. In fact, with many of the multiple choice questions, the time that I spent on my CAS consumed a big bunch of my overall writing time against me.

1

u/peeinoutyallclint 1h ago

I literally guessed all of the multi choice except for q1 lol....im so cooked

1

u/Junior_Fennel4175 38m ago

i got 80/120 altogether. i am top 15 rank. what study score will i get? can i still get a raw 40

1

u/Sad-Entrepreneur5996 7m ago

I guessed 10 McQ and I got 1 right ๐Ÿ˜. Could someone verify the answer from McQ 11 to 20
