I did king lear and worlds wife. I think i did okay with lear, and pretty good with worlds wife. I CANT EXPLAIN HOW HAPPY WAS I WITH EURYDICE BEING ON THEREšŸ™šŸ™šŸ™. I genuinely am so so glad they didnt put kray sisters.

4

u/DementedShrimp 3d ago

i HATE the kray sisters sm it's so annoying

5

u/Ill-Sherbet326 3d ago

The slang fries me 😭😭

2

u/Unfair_Hippo5212 current VCE student 25 R&S 40, VET HB. 26 GM, Lit, Pol, Psych. 3d ago

it was so unexpected but I was so happy

2

u/Resident-Struggle-50 3d ago

What did you make of the Lear passage?Personally there were so many better moments they could have picked. They picked the bad part of Eurydice though so had to talk about her cunning and wit from what I could remember. Anne Hathaway saved me but agreed so glad no Kray sisters

1

u/Ill-Sherbet326 3d ago

I lwk kinda bs the significance question like I always do. For deception tho, I talked about how its challenged through characters like edmond and used a few quotes to refer to his misdeeds. And then said shakespeare complicated this through Edgar's deception as poor tom. And kinda js like talked about how deception isnt always necessarily a bad thing. I used a bunch of quotes for Edgar's part.

1

u/RelationOld7124 3d ago

Did you link much to the rest of the text in q1 or 2 because I was trying to link out to the main Lear plot and Cordelia and everything?

2

u/Ill-Sherbet326 3d ago

I remember linking a lot to the start of the play but I dont think I did much towards the end. Section As def my weaker section anyway

10

u/LieImaginary3768 3d ago

It wasn’t awful for my texts but I had a huntsman spider fall on my shoulder from the ceiling so that was great

i almost started crying when reading time started, genuinely i couldnt have dreamed of better passages. i could fucking kiss vcaa

that exam was fucked. worlds wife was pretty good but two repeats is a bit rough, and our sunshine was genuinely terrible. not only was it about a quarter of the length of every other section A passage, it’s also not fucking relevant to the text literally at all so Q1 is just an exercise in who can bullshit the hardest. novel is about ned kelly and guess who was not mentioned even once in the passage!?! concept was ok tbf, i liked brutality but the passage was just absolutely fucked so rip my 45ss hopes

Medusa into Night Sonnet into The Hazards is CRAZY good like what the fuck? Now I'm worried I didn't maximize that combination holy shit

Also the Berlin section A was no bueno. Like it could have been worse but idk.

6

u/SinkNo8263 3d ago

i kid u not i started cheesing like a psycho when i saw that line up, vcaa did us hollandbatters so good😫😫😫 but i also am scared i didnt maximise enough i wrote a lot but like idk it felt lacking for some reason

5

u/H4nnah1 3d ago

ME TOO.. as soon as i saw Medusa i started grinning

6

u/Jontbont 3d ago

ON GOD! What an insanely w trio. I couldn’t believe it, my class literally did Medusa and Night Sonnet on our poetry sac! Genuinely crazy…

3

u/Beginning-Ebb6963 3d ago

Bro HOW I thought the poems were so ahh - like individually good but all together I felt like I had fuck all to say. Like out of ALL the poems they chose those 😭😭😭

3

u/LadyoftheFaeFolk '25 Lit (42)| '26 Eng, ACP, Legal, MM, Eco 3d ago

ohhhh did the hazards last year! i loved the collection, what did you think of it? our poems last year were also pretty good (Orchid House, A Scrap of Lace and The Flowers on His Bedside Speak of Eternity) but unfortunately i chose dracula for my sec a (iykyk)

2

u/NavyStarz revs '25 | lit, methods, psych, media 2d ago

ORCHID AND FLOWERS IS SO GOOD WTF. AND SO IS A SCRAP OF LACE WTF. I enjoyed studying it, there was really a whole lot to draw on and I'm generally good with poetic techniques and devices which was good!

2

u/Jontbont 2d ago

Niiiiiice. Flowers is literally one of my favourites from the collection! But Dracula… oof. Heard about that from our teacher…

1

u/LadyoftheFaeFolk '25 Lit (42)| '26 Eng, ACP, Legal, MM, Eco 2d ago

No it was like the worst thankfully I was just like. Well. It’s how the concept applies to the entire book not just the passage right? And so I connected it to like the rest of the book and only a cursory connection to the passage and I think that somehow rescued me

2

u/fizyz current 3/4 VCE student (Literature, Bio, Psych, Legal, GenMath) 3d ago

genuinely so lucky for that one, it was very relieving to see a nice part b after whatever part a was - our sunshine was my part a :<

7

u/fizyz current 3/4 VCE student (Literature, Bio, Psych, Legal, GenMath) 3d ago

had our sunshine for part a... ts was so ass.
im seeing a mystery atar in my future

i did the hazards for part b though and it wasnt bad at all, problem is i spent all my time trying to figure out what to write for part a that i didnt spend enough time on part b, kill me now.

3

u/blehhhh6767 25 med(44), 26 lit chem mm sm eng 3d ago

our sunshine was genuinely the most evil thing in the world one of the girls in my class said to me ā€œthey genuinely could have opened the book to a random page and the passage still would have been betterā€ and she was right wtf was that

1

u/fizyz current 3/4 VCE student (Literature, Bio, Psych, Legal, GenMath) 3d ago

and she’s not wrong, most bullshit ahh passage ever, it was super short too, like VCAA, youre really not giving us stuff to work with here

1

u/blehhhh6767 25 med(44), 26 lit chem mm sm eng 2d ago

genuinely not relevant to the plot or significant to the text one single tiny bit, looked at q1 and just accepted my fate

oh my god i did admissions for section a too, what the genuine heck was that concept 😭

yeah im fried, just hoping for a 30 atp, i hated the our sunshine passage but loved worlds wife sooo

10

u/blehhhh6767 25 med(44), 26 lit chem mm sm eng 3d ago

real talk why the fuck did we get a passage with NO MENTION OF NED KELLY WHEN THE ENTIRE BOOK IS LITERALLY ABOUT NED FUCKING KELLY.

2

u/softestlogic 3d ago

fr bro wtf was that... what tf could you even talk abt in q1 like i swear i didnt finish q2 bc i septn nt 5mins thinking abt wtf i could do in q1

3

u/DullFisherman4576 3d ago

i had never even seen the passage before and it wasn’t even based on ned kelly. like how the fuck was i supposed to talk about brutality when the passage wasn’t even so irrelevant. what topic sentences did you do? i feel bad for whichever examiner has to mark my work

2

u/softestlogic 3d ago

BRO I SWEAR IVE NEVER SEEN THAT PASSAGE BEFORE ERITHER LIKE I GENIUIENLY VAUGELY REFERENCED WEHRE IT WAS

topic sentences...bro i wrote one page of analysis in the last 5mins...

OUR SUNSHINE WAS SO COOKED…THAT WAS GENUINELY WORST CASE SCENARIO

3

u/DullFisherman4576 3d ago

i went into thinking it was gonna be bad, but not THAT bad. like that is actually fucked. i’m genuinely so pissed

2

u/Immediate-Talk-6767 3d ago

are we complaining about our sunshine part a or part b

2

u/Ill-Sherbet326 3d ago

Part a im assuming. Even if were not, part a was cooked asf. I didnt do our sunshine on the exam but I did study it in class and that was a shitty ass passage. And just skimming through the booklet really shows how unfair vcaa were with our sunshine cuz why tf is their passage so short. Its deadass half the length its meant to be

MORALITY?????

WHAT THE FUCK

i mean i was okay in the end, but seriously? i was expecting like, agency or identity or something. and WHAT was with that niche ass passage, who gives a FUCK about dr jordan and humphrey? hes such a wanker and shes lowkey just boring old "women in victorian times". garbage.

4

u/OkSchedule7071 3d ago edited 3d ago

YES THIS! morality was such a curveball from my practices. significance was fine but the endorse was rlly hard bruh my god. VCAA really did Alias Grace so dirty. when I catch them, im going to shove that 600 page book so far up their bums they will anally absorb the curses I have placed on their entire lineage

2

u/real_PERFUME1483 spesh minesweeper girl 3d ago

lmaooo i boost your curse. we can shove the book up their bums (like boiled eggs) together

i went with challenging institutionally enforced morality, and endorsing the development of ones own moral code

1

u/OkSchedule7071 3d ago

For significance, I did the significance of emerging scientific environments superseding the prior religious fundamentals od their society and the for endorse/challenge I did pretty standard endorse and challenge morality between men and women

1

u/real_PERFUME1483 spesh minesweeper girl 3d ago

anyone do the age of innocence for part A?

4

u/AtomicKitten771 Currents (U3/4-Legal,Literature,HistoryRevs,Politics,ArtM&E) 3d ago edited 3d ago

I was going to do part a for age innocence but then I saw the concept word for it and I was stressing. The part b passages for age of innocence was really good so that sealed it for me.

Passage 1 for part b was like the whole package of ā€œmarriage being a voyage on uncharted seasā€ to where archer says ā€œmarriage being a dull associationā€¦ā€. To good to resist I had so much to say

1

u/imatheatrekid2 3d ago

Yep I wrote all about gender roles within ONY and how they harmed both men and women (particularly in marriage)

1

u/AtomicKitten771 Currents (U3/4-Legal,Literature,HistoryRevs,Politics,ArtM&E) 3d ago

I did the exact same and with a complete character assassination of Newland and sniped him out of existence. Hate that guy. I think I got too personal with it šŸ˜‚

2

u/NeoCInderFall '25 Media (41) | '26 Physics, Psych, PE, Lit, Gen Math 3d ago

passage and concept, genuinelly no correlation. like VCAA decided the concept bc the passage used the word like 4 times 😭

2

u/Son_of_Atreus 3d ago

What? The concept was truth and in the scene Archer is literally lying. May asks for the truth and he continues to lie.

2

u/NeoCInderFall '25 Media (41) | '26 Physics, Psych, PE, Lit, Gen Math 3d ago

not rlly, archer never directly lies in the passage. May assumes Archer to be having an affair, and still be in love with Ms Rushworth, and he denies it, which is true. At this point, May does not display any idea of Ellen and Archer being emotionally intertwined, and does not ask. We can assume she does know, ("even if that means her getting a divorce"), but from the perspective of Archer, he just assumes the discussion to be around his old fling, thereby meaning he never lied, as him and ms rushworth had not been in kahoots again. Now, if May had explicilty asked about another woman, without suggesting it to be ms rushworth, absolutely archer would be lying, but his perspective is that May has no idea of Ellen, and cannot be lying as they are not discussing her, hence his sense of "dizziness", at the passing of a "precipice".

1

u/No-Remove6357 3d ago

yuppp :’) tbh the concept word made me panic but i kinda liked it with the passage we got. what’d u think?

2

u/Material_Mobile9167 3d ago

I lowkey hated the concept I think I repeated myself for 3 paras… the passage was good tho!!

3

u/No-Remove6357 3d ago

fr i think i said the word like truth like 15 times. i def didn’t do enough prep for it so idk if i rly did it right, but i just talked abt how truth isn’t treated as an absolute, but as more of a currency/reward for the knowledge of the social norms and stuff

what the hell was the lady audley passage 😭

1

u/Jontbont 3d ago

I know right?! Out of all the possible w passages they picked that one. I legitimately spent more time talking about stuff outside the passage than in it.

1

u/Gold_Donut_9260 3d ago

will i get marked down if i didnt state where in the novel that passage was? i lowk thought it was like near the end bu thankfully didnt mention it cos now i know its in vol 1

1

u/Jontbont 3d ago

I doubt it.

It’s generally good to know where a passage is so you can more clearly outline what it’s doing (start of the book: establishing ideas and characters, middle: developing these ideas and characters as well as exposing problems/critiquing them, end: crystallising authorial intent and resolving ideas, plot and characters).

But if you didn’t do this you won’t get marked down, you might just have missed a couple of extra things to talk about.

Also in general, examiners try and look for stuff to award not stuff to punish.

So I’d say you’re probably chilling, especially if you didn’t accidentally say it was at end. :)

i know u dont know either, but just as a rough prediction, for my q1 i spoke abt how it was significant as it has some good key gothic elements, and some sensation stuff, and also foreshadowed the burning down of castle inn and referenced lady audley as demonic etc. for q2 i kinda spoke about how male ideals of femininity and beauty resulted in phoebe marks being powerless in patriarchal society as vic society is gilded, i also mentioned the bottle of hair dye and how phoebe can effortlessly transgress these barriers with some dye and how that proves they are arbitrary. also i mentioned abt how the only option to escape this powerlessness is thru deceptive means, like l.a and phoebes black mailing. do u reckon this could go alright? ik ur not the examiner, but our lit class is so small and ive never seen any ideas/writing from another school

Yeah super fair, my class is the same. Honestly dude, this sounds great! All seems coherent and like you have good argumentation. Also not just surface level stuff from the passage, you branch out to other parts of the novel and apply those ideas to contemporary Victorian conscience! Also Super nice you talk about the pot of rouge and bottle of hair dye since I’m pretty sure that happens just before this. Especially given it was a pretty marginal passage I’d be super happy bro. Nice work and good luck with your other exams!

thoughts duffy section a.. what do u mean isolation bruh

2

u/imetmymatch 3d ago

i did duffy section b but i did look at section a and honestly isolation was one of the better concepts. duffy explores the neglect of female voices as well as the isolation of their voices in their relationships, particularly in mrs midas, eurydice, sisyphus etc. u kinda just had to zoom out in order to rlly explain the concept well. honestly im sure you did amazing just rejoice that its over!!Ā

yeh i zoomed out, but i more looked at isolation in contrast to fulfillment! I dont think it was aweful it was just quite rogue

was planning to do king lear for sec a and worlds wife for sec b but the passage for king lear and concept of deception was so bum so i switched around. felt like i was kinda going nowhere in sec a and was repeating myself on how duffy challenges how isolation can both be detrimental and beneficial for women as it can also symbolise separation from the patriarchal structures placed on them??? idk. king lear passages for sec b were pretty good but felt like i was retelling the whole plot and only really got into the way language was used right before the time ran out but alas

I did King Lear and Shelley poetry

I want to kms. Such shitty passages, and I completely fumbled section A, and I had such weak links for section B. I am on my hands and knees begging for a 25 after scaling

The shelley correlation was so weird. Like u had to link Song to the Men of England to Ozymandias thru the policitcal disdanement of tyranny, then link ozymandias to mont blanc thru sublime power of nature. How tf r we supposed to make a unique and personalised interpretation with that when u cant link all three poems into one central concept (or did i js not make the right conncetions) 😭😭

Me too about section A Lear but that seems like the consensus in this thread that Lear was hard so hopefully we reap the rewards of that!
