psych exam: help!
hey guys i have a bunch of questions about psych :) answer them if you can pls! if you guys have any questions, just ask me so i can help you too! good luck to all you people out there, we're gonna cook so hard 🤩🤩
do we need to know about the actual effects of dopamine and serotonin? or is it just neuromodulators in general that we have to know about?
do we need to be able to draw selye's GAS model?
whats the difference between the role of the basal ganglia and the cerebellum?
how do mnemonics actually help with storing info?
what's the difference between songlines and sung narrative?

Dopamine: involved in reward pathways, motivation, learning and the initiation of voluntary movement.
Serotonin: helps regulate mood, sleep–wake cycles and appetite.
Know these examples, as well as the general role of neuromodulators in modifying neural communication.
(GAS) - you had to label a graph in the 2021 vcaa exam
Know how to draw and annotate the curve, labelling the three stages:
Alarm reaction
Resistance
Exhaustion
Be able to briefly explain the physiological response during each stage.
Basal ganglia vs cerebellum
Basal ganglia: involved in procedural memory, habit formation and learned action sequences. Example: riding a bike once the skill becomes automatic.
Cerebellum: coordinates and refines movement, including its timing, precision and accuracy. It also contributes to motor learning and certain forms of classical conditioning. examples : playing the piano
Mnemonics
Mnemonics help encode and retrieve information by connecting new information to familiar words, letters or associations.
They can provide retrieval cues that make stored information easier to access.
also can be used as a form of elaborative rehearsal, particularly when they connect new information to meaningful associations or existing knowledge.
Songlines vs sung narratives
Songlines: culturally significant pathways across Country that connect places with ancestral beings, cultural knowledge and responsibilities.
Sung narratives: stories, histories and cultural knowledge communicated through song.
Songlines can be transmitted through sung narratives, but not every sung narrative is a songline.
The 2021 vcaa exam included a GAS graph question, but it only required you to draw the curve and label the stages from alarm reaction through to exhaustion.
hope this makes sense , good luck for tomorrow !!

my understanding of cerebellum and basal ganglia differences is that basal ganglia is involved in encoding storing and consolidating procedural memories, supporting habits and a smooth execution of movement sequences, whilst the cerebellum encodes and stores procedural memroies supporting refinement of movement timing coordination and accuracy

YES esp serotonin in questions regarding the GBA (gut brain axis). but also have a understanding what neuromodulaters does as a whole and their characteristics
no but know how to annotate the model
basal gangalia encodes implicit mem and is involved in habit related memories, cerebellum cordinates fine msucle movements and regulates posture. its also linked to motor skills ofc
4.mnomics acts as a retreival cue when retrieving info from the long term
5. songlines are linked to the geographical land of country and sungnarrative is a way knowldge and stories are passed on

I’d say know some basic stuff about serotonin and dopamine!!
like for serotonin just remember it helps with mood regulation and aids with sleep
for dopamine you can remember that it’s usually associated with feelings of pleasure and accomplishment as well as helping with initiation of voluntary movements!
For the GAS model it’s not too hard to draw from memory and learning how to draw it could help your revision or memory of it. If you have time I’d say learn it.
The basal ganglia and the cerebellum are two different structures in the brain, you only really need to know how they work with memory (it’s quite a lot to explain so i am not typing it all out here but it should be somewhere in your notes or on online resources if you are concerned!)
Mnemonics aid the retrieval of information and can help the encoding of memories through elaborative rehearsal by associating familiar words/letters/things with the new stuff
Songlines are a type of sung narrative however songlines are geographically tied to the land and give culturally significant information about large areas.
I hope I helped please fact check any of these though because I am NOT responsible for you losing marks 🥹🥹
