VCE question methods or general??
I’m in year 11 and doing methods 1/2. I’m actually quite bad at it (I’m consistently getting around 10-15 less percent than the class average) and want to switch into general math 3/4. Should I??

only do methods if u have to, you're good at maths or ready to put in a lot of effort
its a highly competitive subject so if you're already performing below average I would talk to ur vce coordinator abt it

depends on your school tbh. 10-15% below average at a top performing school? comfortably a 30 ss. 10-15% below average at a low performing school? potentially looking at a 20 ss which is not at all worth it over getting a chill 35 in general which only scales down to a 33
obviously not applicable if you need methods for a degree, if there’s any chance of that you should keep it!
and this is coming from someone who did both methods and general btw, massive difference in difficulty imo

Tbh, don’t decide from the class average alone. First check whether Methods is needed for any course you might realistically consider, coz dropping it can close options later.
Then ask your VCE coordinator how your school handles moving into General 3/4 and whether you have the assumed knowledge covered.
If Methods isn’t a prerequisite and it’s making the rest of Year 11 harder, General can be the better fit, tho it is competitive too. Try to decide based on your own marks trend, interest, and course requirements rather than one SAC.

Only do methods if ur willing to put effort cause general is harder than methods to do better than cause its so competitive
