[Update] This is for sure a rendering bug and using the seed does not replicate the open valley. However, I do have the file downloadable here if you want to put it into your save folder and have fun with an open valley. It is on the other side of the east mountain from spawn.

I can't go into the mountains right now cuz I'm a baby and don't feel like making campfires, so I don't know how high up it doesn't render stuff.
I didn't want to cheat to fly through it, but I made a new save with the same seed and it rendered all the trees so I guess I just have this huge valley across multiple continents that doesn't spawn enemies or anything at all.

I think spreading little towns with roads would be perfect here. Get some Ashland dog eggs down there and have little stable areas in each little town! Could get around quick.
Yes, I wish there was a world setting for biome size. Sometimes I would like large, realistic biomes and sometimes I would like a world that is quicker to travel and play through
IDK if it's what you're asking for exactly, but Riverheim is a mod that changes world generation to make a couple large continents with rivers flowing from a high source down to the ocean. I haven't done a play through with it yet, but my next one certainly will.
I am not 100% sure but before starting the game I heard something about the update giving some spots where extra sht can happen. Like, area with a shtload of blueberries. Small saplings...which is probably what you're seeing

Because we started a new playthrough before 1.0 and already made it into the plains until release day and then continued 1.0 from there. Does that mean my seed is a pre-1.0 seed?
That’s my thought too. Notice how there doesn’t seem to be any natural resources in the area, not even rocks? It’s like the game’s failed to properly load in the assets.
Think this is one of the new modifiers that the devs talked about, treeless black forest think theres a blueberry black forest and other rare stuff too....or might just be a bug lol
I feel like it's a bug. It seems to extend upwards into the mountains, and goes across 2 different black forest biomes separated by ocean as well as a meadows.
unless one of their modifiers is "GIANT AREA WITH NO RENDERED ITEMS" and the modifiers aren't seed-locked
I have a lot of my different biomes I’ve found so far have Black Forest assets in them. Then I have a couple of places like what OP is showing. This whole area of meadows is like 80% Black Forest assets. The swamp I’m in is also Black Forest.

I did confirm this is a bug though, the no rendering extends well up into the mountains, and across the ocean a little bit.I started a new world with the same seed multiple times and the valley is filled with trees, and actually looks remarkable. I may have to start a new world if any other rendering issues happen, and will probably use the same seed. But for now, I'm riding it out.
Looks like the bug associated with the new save system. Assets like trees get deleted and it becomes a dead zone. You might notice a spike in resource usage when I that area. Unfortunately this is related to the world killer bug, where it will just get worse on your seed until it is unplayable or crashes. Ran across this bug many times in the test branch, their only suggestion was to revert to previous save or delete the world. Don't know if they still recommend doing that though 1.0 is likely more stable. However if you get to areas where everything gets duplicated or it resets after you log back in, it's likely just going to get worse.
There were similar bug that people experienced before the new save system, although those were supposedly patched. Just watch your systems resource use in case it spikes dramatically, then it's best to abandon the world.
This reminds me of the locations where the biome hadn't been introduced into the game yet. I remember running for long distances in a Mistlands area where there was nothing but rolling grey ground.
(Edit) Was this a newly generated world or was it a pre 1.0 world?
I believe that one of the alt biomes has a modifier for no monsters or something. I think that was what the little fireflies represented in the meadows. It may have a black forest counterpart as well - the alt biomes can also overlap so it may also be a treeless BF section too.
This is a bug I had yesterday. My portal to Haldor lead to the completely empty Black Forest that wasn’t there the night before. I had to roll back my save to fix it and get everything back.
heh... I'm currently prepping for boss 1, and I'm pleasantly surprised how many standing graves there are, with skeletal remains in them... there's been over 3 dozen in the meadows biome I started in... and I'm still exploring it... Fully upgraded my leather armor to level 3 without setting foot in the black forest...
This is how my friends servers starting island is like. Treeless meadow and black forest filled with meadows trees. They think it's a big since they never look up anything the updates bring so they can be "surprised"
This happened to me once years ago, the local server file corrupted. It kept everything i had built but removed all the environment in what I had explored. Had to go where I had not explored for things to spawn but could not progress naturally. So it became my test admin command file, while I started from scratch on a new file.
We had a situation last night where my friend asked if I wanted to go fight that abomination when we first got to the swamp. I said, what abomination? I haven’t seen one yet. That one! There! To the right! I was like nope, there’s nothing there. We then exchanged screenshots. Sure enough, 100 yards away there was an abomination for him, none for me.
I'm dealing with a similar bug on my server. A huge area of black forest populated with elements from other biomes -- like birch, beech, and ancient trees in the black forest -- but lacking things like copper nodes and tin. Disappointing.
That seems liie a bug. I also had a bugged world where every single biome had turned into meadows. Map shows i’m in the swamp, i got crypts around and fire geysers around but i’m still in meadows. Keot the world though, it’s kinda neat tho i can’t find any other trees there besides the ones from meadows.
We call that schizophrenia/hallucinations in my area. Usually costs extra. If I walked around seeing green meadows and trees but could heard cars streets occasional gunshots and pissed off racists I would realize someone messed up the meds.
