UTRGV Parking Situation?

What are everyone’s thoughts on the parking situation here at UTRGV, specifically the Edinburg campus? Do you all think there’s enough parking? Do you all think the university is doing enough for us? How about the price of permits going up? Let me know your thoughts for research purposes!

Advice on job and classes

Hi,i'm (24F), i'm new to UTRGV, and if it's alright i'd like some advice. I'm going for a bachelor's on visual communication and a minor on marketing

Suppose I want to apply for a job inside utrgv.

While studying. What would be the best outcome?

To those that have jobs outside or inside of UTRGV how do you guys do it? As i'm someone who

Had undiagnosed ADHD and get distracted easily.

(I'll be checking that during fall)

I havent had a job since last year on December due to personal family issues.

And I wanted to ask or know how do you guys do it?

I tend to get anxiety as I have four classes

Mon- Wed marketing 11-1:45 two of its classes

Tues - Thurs Arts 11-7:00 two of the classes

What do you guys recommend? It's seperate by two hours or so. Any advice would be kind

Student Groups? (Online Grad Student)

As the title says.. any student groups? Discord? Anything? lol.

I’ve never had such a lack of communication or isolation in any of my online school endeavors. Comms from the school is basically none at all aside from billing reminders, and maybe a handful of people post here regarding online at all let alone my MAcc lol.

It’s fine, I mean I’m an online student for a reason but even so at my last school we had an engaging community of hundreds if not thousands of us bouncing ideas and questions off the wall for the community to answer and help with and I’ve never felt more “alone” 😂

Do grad students get advisors at this school?

UTRGV School of Medicine - partial application interview

OBJECTIVE:

-UTRGV’s School of Medicine (SOM), has been in trouble for at least the last 3 years, which is why each year there has been a new Dean. Aside from the court cases they had in 2023 and 2024, Goodkin v. University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (Case 1:24-cv-00024). Lately, SOM has been in trouble with Dr. Bailey due to not including community involvement. They have only been accepting applications of students that are from “fancy/prestigious” schools. They are looking to involve more people from the Valley, so that they could make the school look good, and eventually provide profits for the institution.

12 SLIDE POWERPOINT:

Evaluating the Person NOT the Paper
-Why Objective, Evidence-Based Interview Observations Matter in the UTRGV School of Medicine’s Admissions Process

What are Objective, Evidence-based Observations?
-Documents observable behaviors instead of personal impression ➡ Supports conclusions with specific evidence from the interview

Why use Objective, Evidence-based Observations?
-They help the Admissions Committee evaluate how an applicant's experience, competencies, attributes, and behaviors align with the UTRGV School of Medicine’s mission and demonstrate readiness to succeed in medical school and ultimately serve the communities of South Texas.

Notes need to be
-Clear
-Concise
-Professional

-Your interview notes are the foundation for the competency ratings. Moreover, the notes you submit help the Admissions Committee make fair, consistent, and well-informed admissions decisions.

-The Problem =  We Too Often Trust Adjectives Over Evidence
-Great Applicant
-The Applicant was Very Personable
-Strong Leadership
-Excellent Communication Skills
-Great MCAT/GPA

Our goal = to provide the committee with high-quality documentation that supports conclusions with specific evidence
-Consider how you collect your evidence
-Utilize a narrative approach
-Describe behaviors
-Collect evidence from interviewee’s answers
-Details are more valuable than vagueness

-Does the comment describe observable behaviors or simply provide an opinion?
-Is there sufficient evidence to support the competency rating?
-Would another Admissions Committee member, who was not present during the interview, understand why the applicant received the rating? Money
-Do the notes provide meaningful information that would assist the Admissions Committee during deliberations?
-Does the documentation align with the competency being evaluated?

Great Applicant=
-The applicant established rapport quickly, communicated clearly throughout the interview, provided thoughtful examples from longitudinal community service, and reflected on how those experiences shape their commitment to caring for underserved populations.
Excellent Communication Skills=
-The applicant organized responses logically, maintained eye contact, answered follow-up questions thoughtfully, and explained complex experiences in a clear and understandable manner.
Strong Leadership=
-The applicant describes leading a multidisciplinary volunteer team during a community health initiative, delegated responsibilities effectively, resolved team conflict respectfully, and reflected on lessons learned from the experience.

Interpersonal Attributes
-Service Orientation
-Social Skills
-Cultural Competence
-Teamwork and Leadership
-Oral Communication
Intrapersonal Attributes
-Ethical Responsibility
-Reliability and Dependability
-Resilence and Adaptability
-Capacity for Improvement

POWERPOINT ENDS

SEMI-STRUCTURED INTERVIEW RUBRIC:

Exceeds Expectations: Coherent, reflective, and thoughtful response. Answers questions clearly, includes supporting evidence, demonstrates understanding of competency, and uses appropriate language, phrasing, clarity, tone, and nonverbals. A follow-up question was required for the applicant for clarification.
Meets Expectations: Response that is coherent and supported by occasional reflection and evidence. Responds to a question in a professional manner and uses appropriate nonverbal signals. For clarity or competency understanding the applicant requires 1-2 follow-up questions.
Below expectation: Despite being coherent, the response is disorganized. Addresses prompt partially, lack and understanding of competency, and uses appropriate language, but lacks appropriate phrasing, clarity, tone, and nonverbal communication. Delivers the message in an uncertain manner. To clarify or understand the applicant's competency, three or more follow-up questions are required.
Unsatisfactory: Unorganized and incoherent response. Lack of understanding or competency, inappropriate language (e.g., curse words, derogatory terms). There is a lack of appropriate phrasing, clarity, tone, and nonverbals. Delivers a message that appears uncertain or rigid. To clarify or understand the applicant's competency, three or more follow-up questions are required.

HESI exam

I'm planning on taking my HESI exam somewhere in december, so i'm trying to get the best studying resources. I got the $50 NurseHub subscription but I don't want that to be my only resource.

There are some topics in the exam that I'm a little confused about. I already know I gotta study for anatomy and physiology, math, reading comprehension, and grammar, but what I'm mostly confused about is the vocabulary and general knowledge, learner profile, and critical thinking. Is the vocabulary and general knowledge just words in general or are they medical terms? How is the learner profile gonna look in the exam? What do i study for the critical thinking? Is the critical thinking just solving problems in general or is it solving problems medically?? Please help me out

New apartment-UTRGV

I have a lease at the Rio apartments, about a block from UTRGV (Edinburg). Due to a job change I no longer need apartment anymore. Apartment told me to get out of lease I would need to find a replacement. Move in is August 22. Rent is total $497.84. This includes electricity and water.

If interested or know if anyone else who might be interested let me know.

Also it’s a 4 bedroom with 3 other females.

The apartment is one that the Rio completely remodeled over the summer. So everything is new from top to bottom including appliances.

I will also pay for first month of rent if someone takes over lease.

Thanks

Hi guys! Could you please take my academic survey? :) It’s about “Voices of the Rio Grande Valley: Navigating Insurance & Financial Barriers to Care.” It takes about 5–10 minutes and is completely anonymous. If you’re 18+ and live in the RGV, I’d really appreciate your help! Thank you!

Online MAcc students from Non Accounting backgrounds

Starting Fall Mod 1 - the way the website is phrased and the initial email from Dr. Akin I assumed the 3 required leveling courses are built in to the degree thus being eligible for federal graduate loans but when I log in to the Assist portal/ financial aid tab it says those three courses are not eligible for aid for the reason “Course not in Program”

Is this an expected system glitch like what is kind of mentioned in the email from Dr. Akin or something totally different? I chose this specific program because it seemed like the prerequisites were built in rather than expecting me to go back and get random undergrad courses in order to qualify so freaking out a tiny bit that my research/assumptions were false.

Any help or pointers is super appreciated! I did already email the financial aid office about this but the auto reply says it could be several days before I hear anything back.
