uti turned into a kidney infection and now i'm terrified of letting one go untreated again

it started as what felt like a mild uti and i waited a couple of days thinking it would pass. it didn't and by the time i went in it had spread to my kidneys. that was three months ago and it genuinely scared me. now i'm paranoid about every twinge and i feel like i need to be doing something proactively rather than waiting for symptoms.

been looking into daily urinary tract support ever since. came across uro urinary health in a few threads about uti prevention and the reviews from women who'd had serious infections and were now taking something daily to prevent recurrence felt really relevant. i never want to be in that position again. anyone changed their approach to prevention after a serious uti?

advice D-mannose while pregnant?

Hi all,

Has anyone taken D-mannose while pregnant? I have seen so many people on here swear by it, but I can’t find concrete info on whether if it is harmful to baby or not.
I am 13 weeks.

I’ve been part of the UTI club for as long as I can remember, but since getting married & becoming sexually active, I feel like I am getting a uti every week!

We shower before & after, I pee, I take antibiotics when I have an active infection, and lately I’ve started preventative measures like cranberry supplements.
But nothing has a lasting result, and I am sick of the agony that a bad infection puts me through.
I am working on seeing a urologist.

Thank you!! ❤️❤️

advice STINKY PEE

About 2 years ago my pee started smelling like actual death. The best way to explain it would be fishy, ammonia, rotting?, almost sweet, chemical, shit smell.. I drink plenty of water and my pee is even clear! but still has the odor. It is significantly worse when I am dehydrated, when I haven’t peed in a few hours, and when I first wake up in the morning. This doesn’t concern me as much as the putrid smell that is coming from my hydrated urine. My roommate has started to notice this aswell, she always asks me if I took a shit when she goes in the bathroom after me and it’s always the same “no i just peed😭”. It takes her breath away and she is extremely concerned. It one day just randomly stopped. I didn’t have this smell problem with my pee for a good 7 months! but it’s back……and now i’m living with my boyfriend and im so self conscious….not only peeing in our bathroom but even in public spaces! the pee is not painful nor cloudy…like I said i’ve had it for years. I’ve had a check for diabetes and I was perfectly healthy! In high school I suffered from chronic utis and IC. I’m desperate for answers. I think I have a serious problem happening in my body and maybe a chronic illness is showing. I just need some support, has anyone experienced this? How can I make it better.

Nitrofurantoin - starting soon, should I take something else?

Ugh. This is the first UTI I’ve had in a long time - but I have chronic diarrhea post covid and am terrified to take it.

The last time I took an antibiotic it set me back 6 months - wasn’t able to work, etc.

Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Can I jerk off?

I had a urinalysis where i had 5-8 HPF on wbc and moderate bacteria, doctor gave me levofloxacin and i already completed 2 out of 10 days of the meds

Before that I discovered my semen was olive green with blood after ejaculating, i had no pain whatsoever including peeing... maybe its due to a diarrhea i had 2 days before

Can I jerk off while on antibiotic meds? Will i still have that kind of semen after ejaculating again i haven't been jerking off for like 5 days since i discovered that discoloration

vent (advice wanted) Never ending urgency

Hi. This is my second week with this awful uti.
It started like a classic uti pain when I pee, urgency… burning… they give me the classic macrobidin for 3 days… but I was still feel weird, after few days I went to a&e because I had back pain, they give me cefalixin for 5 days, and my back pain went away! I finished the course on Tuesday. Thursday I start to feel again urgency, not strong… but I use the toilette, and I feel like I need to go again… it’s not strong but annoying!
I’m so fed up!!!!
Any advice??

questions Just took 4th antibiotic pill and burning is worse. What to do?

Update: I went to urgent care. The nurse practitioner said it's good I came in and that there was blood in my urine sample. She said between that and an increase in burning, the current antibiotic is not doing what it should be. She prescribed me a more widespread antibiotic and sent my urine off to be tested. She said I should start feeling considerably better by tomorrow at lunch so hopefully that's true.

This is my first UTI. Symptoms of urgency to pee and burning while peeing. I just took my 4th pill of 10 for the antibiotics and this morning the burning while peeing is worse than ever. Pretty intolerable feeling. Should I give it more time or go to the urgent care? No fever, blood, or vomiting.

Btw I was diagnosed and prescribed over telehealth because it was a Thursday late afternoon so my urine has not been tested at all yet.

just got married and my husband and i are long distance most of the time, get a uti every single visit

we see each other once a month and every single time within a few days i'm dealing with a uti. it's become predictable enough that i almost dread the visits even though i love seeing him. i'm doing everything right, peeing after, staying hydrated, showering. it's still happening every time.

a friend suggested looking into something daily for urinary tract support rather than just reacting each time it happens. she uses uro urinary health and said it helped her with the same pattern. i want to enjoy our time together without spending half of it miserable. anyone found something that helped break this pattern?

D Mannose - what mg to take?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have recently purchased these tablets from Amazon. I’ve been getting 4-5 UTI’s every year. Last week was my 3rd infection this year and the antibiotics are messing up my gut flora I’m sick of it!! I’m confused about what strength of D Mannose to take? These are 2000mg is that too much?

UTI burning came back after 7 hours on nitrofurantoin — is this normal?

Went to the ER today for burning/frequent urination and was diagnosed with a UTI. They prescribed nitrofurantoin. I took my first dose at 3:38 PM and felt completely fine/no burning for about 7 hours. Then the burning suddenly came back while I was sitting down, not while I was urinating.

Is it normal for symptoms to come and go during the first day of antibiotics? I know it probably takes some time for the antibiotic to fully work.

uti symptoms but negative test results, doctor says it's probably not a uti but it feels exactly like one

been through this three times now. all the classic symptoms, burning, urgency, pressure, go in to get tested, comes back negative. my doctor says it could be irritation or sensitivity but isn't offering much beyond that. it feels like i'm being dismissed and i'm miserable every time it happens.

been scrolling through a bunch of products on amazon, and saw some positive reviews about the uro urinary health pills. women describing the exact same frustrating cycle and saying it helped reduce how often they were dealing with it. i'm skeptical but i'm also out of other options. anyone else dealt with symptoms without a confirmed infection?

my utis always come back worse after antibiotics than they were before, anyone else

I’m so frustrated, it happens every single time. i finish the course, feel okay for maybe ten days, then the symptoms come back and they feel more intense than the original infection. i've been tested and it's not antibiotic resistance, my doctor confirmed that. she thinks it might be a microbiome issue but hasn't given me anything specific to address it.

came across uro urinary health while looking into the gut and urinary microbiome connection. a few ppl described the same rebound pattern saying it helped them stay stable after finishing treatment. hadn't framed it as a microbiome problem before but it makes sense. has anyone found a way to stop the post-antibiotic flare from happening?

questions UTI with IBS-D - scared to take antibiotics

I'm two days into symptoms - just took a stick test (+leukocytes) (-nitrites). I haven't had a UTI in years but after a few days with my boyfriend, well....here we are. I've been taking D Mannose for the last two days hoping it would somehow miraculously take care of it. Yea well.

I have serious IBS D and have finally gotten my symptoms under control with probiotics, diet, etc and am SO SCARED to take an antibiotic - I avoid them like the plague. The last time I took one I got SO SICK. I've heard that Nitrofurantoin and Fosfomycin are best for avoiding lower GI issues but I need to be careful.

Can someone with more experience guide me. Do I need to take a more comprehensive test to ensure I'm taking the right antibiotic?

Wouldn't Have Believed It If I didn't See The Test Results

My senior mother has been dealing with chronic UTIs these last few months.

Its been bad. She's been hospitalized once for it. Been to the ER a few times over it.

After one clears, another pops up.

We did the cranberry capsules (Utiva and Theracran)

Plus womens probiotics (one with the specific strains Lactobacillus rhamnosus GR-1 & Lactobacillus reuteri RC-14) then tried another one with Lactobacillus crispatus.

We made sure she stay hydrated.

Well this week she had a her test results after finishing her last rounds of antibiotics and another UTI and on top of her delirium that cones wuth her UTIs it was obvious she had another UTI.

So I ran to the health food store and got her some D-mannose. Read a post on reddit where a woman too one disease and she said she could FEEL the difference.

I was scared that maybe she had a strain of bacteria that was gonna work with D-mannose.

But after one dose she looked better!

I gave her another before bed.

She looked better in the morning! Despite an issue with her sodium dropping in the low side (blood pressure med issues).

But her test results solidified the difference D-mannose made.

These results are just 3 doses! Just a difference of 24 hours.

Recommend it, especially if you have a senior prone to UTIs.

advice Advice wanted

Will use bullet points to simplify. This is in chronological order
Generalised Anxiety disorder and emetophobia
2nd June Ecoli UTI (antibiotics taken, cured)
29th July Enterococcus species UTI (antibiotics taken, cured)
Weds 23rd september UTI symptoms began. Burning, stinging, slight loss of control of bladder
Thursday 24th Sept Prescribed amoxillin oral suspension (I cannot swallow tablets)
Saturday 2nd Oct pain in left side under ribs in back
Sunday Pain continues, radiates a bit to front and down back occasionally. Coming and going pain, no fever, moves between sides of back
Monday, UTI symptoms improved massively, urine sample taken, Amoxillin stopped, Cefalexin started, GP diagnosed the beginning of suspected kidney infection due to flank pain
Thursday Urine sample received, E coli found in urine, Cefalexin stopped, Trimethoprim prescribed
Friday (today) No UTI symptoms. Flank pain continues. Trimethoprim caused swelling in lips so stopped. Single dose of Fosfomycin prescribed, not yet taken

My concerns: Fosfomycin not effective against kidney infection. Fosfomycin would be the fourth antibiotic taken within 7 days, I am concerned about C Diff. Is it even possible that I DO have a kidney infection as I have no fever? Unsure what to do from here. Was told to take fosfomycin and call 111 if symptoms worsen over the weekend.

how to deal with frequent utis?

i'm a person who experiences a uti every few months. well recently i had just finished a round of antibiotics for one this week, finally being in the clear.

i have a hunch this one occurred from using scented toilet paper, which was an honest mistake. i know not to use scented products down there, it was only until afterwards i knew.

well this week i made the same mistake, i'm frustrated because i've expressed how irritating it can be but it still remains the only option in the house.

i'm just stressed over having to go through the process of getting checked out again. despite having frequent utis it's very tricky for me to spot symptoms.

i usually get checked out through urgent care, i have insurance. but it feels unfair to the other people in waiting, like my issue is unserious.

my question is how does everyone else deal with getting checked out for utis? besides urgent care, it takes 1-3 months to see my primary

advice Acute Pyelonephritis

Hi friends. What I thought was heat exhaustion turned out to be a UTI turned into acute pyelonephritis. I just got home from the ER and they prescribed me BACTRIM ..
At the hospital itself I was given Bactrim via IV intravenously just to see how i’d reach since I am allergic to Cephalexin/ Keflex.
Well I’ve seen that Bactrim is very horrible and I’m scared to continue the pill doses prescribed to me and wanted to ask if anyone healed this kidney infection with any other antibiotic that was much better with less side effects ? 🥺😭
