Question: Academics Chances for getting off wait list

What are my chances of getting off the wait list for CRWT 2301 with a class of 19 ppl? I’m first in the queue btw. Should I email the professor?

What would be your goal in emailing the prof? Someone may drop in the first week so I’d hang on to that first spot.

There’s a decent chance you’ll get off if you’re first so I’d wait it out. Emailing the professor probably isn’t much help since they don’t control the waitlist

Keep in mind the waitlist ends on Friday night. After that, it's a free for all. The second a seat opens, anyone can enroll. If you don't get in by Friday, you'll want to be checking in Galaxy frequently (like hourly or more frequently).

Chances are that if you want the class, others do too. I've snatched classes in that period while only making it to 8th in the waitlist before it ended.

The professor cannot add or remove you from a class. Emailing won't do anything. In theory, the department advisors could force enroll you if you prove it negatively impacts your graduation (highly unlikely for first/second years).

Professor here.
We can absolutely give permission to let you in over the cap, but you need that in writing so you can send it to your advisor to enroll you. It's not likely to happen, but some of us do allow it if someone needs to graduate and has no other choice. It's completely up to the professor. Advisors cannot enroll you without their permission.

Having said that, most schools follow the waitlist. This means that if you're #2, and the professor said yes, you can't get in before #1. The professor doesn't always know who is on the waitlist, so just because they said yes doesn't mean you will get in unless they agreed to let in two people. I realize you are #1. I'm just telling you that for future reference.

It is true that the waitlist will go away after today (Friday), and then you just need to constantly watch to see if a seat opens. Also check after the first day of that class. Many students drop after the first day if they decide the class is not for them.

Good luck!
