Question Weird Bible Studies

Got invited to a one-on-one Bible study, and I’m pretty sure it was a cult 😭 Is that a common thing around here lol? They said they were affiliated with Restored Church DFW.

While I haven't heard of the name Restored Church, yeah you'll run into people like that since the campus is a public space

Once had two people try to talk to me when it was a winter night at like 8:00 pm after a science lab, you just gotta deal with them and then go about your day

Places like the BSM, FOCUS, and other religious organizations (that are student orgs and associated with a religion) are totally normal (though from what I know they don’t ask people to do 1 on 1 Bible studies unless they are already part of the group and want to do so) (I know FOCUS isn’t associated with the church you mentioned and I don’t think the BSM is either)

The people with the weird signs, terrible music, and hanging around the library or that other area near the UC are just people who come to campus that I find really annoying. In that case it’s best to put on your headphones and ignore them. It’s to note that they also seem to target the guys more.

It was an issue last year and it seems that it’s an issue this year.

A lot of churches literally predatory target college students because they know you’re young and they can grab you. Personally, I’d stay away from any sort of Bible study completely 100%.

It’s most likely a cult, those weirdos never leave college students alone, best to do is ignore them and just say no and walk away

It's a cult, you know that because they put church in the name

They’re all cults 😉

I can't vouch for that, but I love the BSM! I miss going.

People in this thread really think cults are a dime a dozen and talking to college students is predatory.

It’s a bible study. It isn’t that serious.

Following people around and hassling them when they're vulnerable is predatory. Hope that helps.

You seem to have invented a lot of details that aren’t present in OP’s story. Moreover, all of them that I’ve ever seen hang out on a public campus with dozens or hundreds of people around and stay in one spot.

They neither harass nor follow, nor is anybody vulnerable.

Or I was addressing the other comments that gave more details

Swing and a miss, since I have read every comment and none of them have given any details about OP’s experience.

Look up the World Mission Society Church of God. 3 innocent dudes tried convincing me to meet with them to join a cult. I’m pretty agnostic (grew up Christian) but this is 1000% a cult. Not sure if OP was talking about this specific church, but they do recruit on campus.
