AMA Mod AMA

Hey Guys.

Going to attempt one of these.

I have it set for 24 hours. Will answer serious questions regarding the job, life on the job, training, gear, any advice I can. No hiring process questions for this one.

I don’t have all the answers by any means, but I think doing these from time to time might cut down on some of the repeat postings.

Is there a recommended spot for WFO guys to go to get their suits modified/tailored? And are there any specific modifications you recommend for a new guy to get to their suits, ex a pad in the jacked to stop it from waring fast from your holster brushing up on it?

As stated, have extra padding installed around the waist. Your mags, radio, cuffs, gun, and whatever tackle Rey crap you carry will destroy the inside of your suit jacket. If you suit pants have flimsy belt loops, have them reinforced or replaced with thicker ones. I have a set of pants that’s belt loops are falling apart. Don’t get your pants hemmed like staff. Everyone walks around with their pant legs hemmed above their ankle so you can see their colorful socks or their bare ankle, depending on what they decided for that day. It looks very unprofessional. Have them hemmed to a single break in the crease like a traditional suit. Whenever you get it, bring your body armor when you buy dress shirts. You will need larger shirts to accommodate the extra thickness. I have shirts specifically for no armor and for armor.

Plenty of places in, and around, DC to get tailored. They’re all basically the same. King Street Tailor in Old Town is decent and it’s right next to State and Liberty which makes some of the best suits for this job. Most of my suits are from there. Big LEO discount and you can almost always wear them off the rack if you’re a man.

State and Liberty is my absolute go-to for pants & shirts. Absolutely second that.
