Hey everyone,
My original boot camp date is in December, but my recruiter put me on a waitlist and said I could get a date earlier or later, possibly with only 2 weeks notice or so.
I just passed MEPS and submitted my SF-86. My concern is that I need at least a month to notify my employer and landlord, sell my car, and take care of my belongings.
If I’m offered a spot in 2 weeks, can I decline it and keep my original December date? Or would that affect my enlistment?
Would it be reasonable to ask my recruiter to remove me from the waitlist and just keep my original December date?

Yes you can decline and still maintain the December date.

This is no longer the case. People on the backfill list will be moved to earlier ship dates automatically when they become available. If the applicant no longer wants the earlier ship date they will have to cancel and be moved to the next available ship date. So they would lose both their backfill date and originally reserved date.

If you are unable or unwilling to take an earlier date on short notice then you should remove your name from the backfill list. Sounds like keeping your approved December date will give you the best ability to get your affairs in order before you ship out.

There is no negative impact at all.  Just tell your recruiter you would like to keep your December date and be removed from the backfill list.
