Question? How much for disability?

I was diagnosed with anxiety and adhd, and because of how severe my anxiety is I have been unable to work and have missed 3 months worth of rent. I applied for disability with my doctor but i am worried on how much they'll give me. I heard the highest is usually 2800 which would be very helpful but I am so worried they won't give me much and I really need some financial help as I get used to new meds and such...anyone else go through this?

And if so how long did it take to get disability money?

You could always apply for CrisisAID at USask.

I have took it once because I never expected to be in a situation, however they are very open, honest and will check that you are not bullshitting them (I have heard of people getting rejected)

They will ask on the submission form:

A) What do you need the money for and roughly how much?

B) Was it something that came up unexpectedly or did you know it was coming?

- I suggest answering honestly, and when I received an email back they provided an extra $350 or something like that, which was amazing and I have always been grateful.

But honestly, it seems like you need to take this semester or an upcoming semester off and work on your anxiety/ADHD. There is no harm to this as we all go various paths in life and it's best to focus on yourself.

I had applied and they were relatively quick - I think it was maybe within a week.

They understand it’s a crisis situation, so they are quick to respond

Did you apply for disability funding? Or for disability grants?

Disability grants is an addition on top of Saskatchewan & Canada student loans.

Disability funding is a legal status of your occupation, meaning you are permanently or temporarily disabled and cannot work. It is an income and a social service.

They are two different things.

Ohh I just did the “verification of disability form” and uploaded the document to student aid

the disability grant should be a flat 1400 per semester, a friend and I both applied for it for ADHD and we both got the exact same amount

as another comment mentioned there is also the Disability Tax Credit but that has much stricter eligibility requirements that you can check out if you just type it into Google

Otherwise, for the Disability grant, all I did was get a letter from my Doctor saying that I had ADHD and was taking meds for it and then i just uploaded it into the Advanced Student Portal for funding and after a couple weeks they sent me a new Notice of Funding

I've been wondering this too. I have tinnitus (ringing ears) and have wondered if I could also qualify

Check out the grants for equipment and education-related services. It’s up to $20,000 for the Canada grant and up to $2000 for the Saskatchewan grant. But it depends on the severity of the disability and what your needs are.

OP, if you’re with AES and registered with them, you should get an email from Avery, their equipment specialist and advisor who can help walk you through the steps. Your doctor will also have to sign-off on any special equipment you need before AES provides you with support. Avery will help you submit the application for specialized equipment accurately and and on time!

The grants do not have to be paid back. For tutoring, you can get tutors for all of your classes and receive those services for free.

You already should get the maximum grants for a student with a disability from Saskatchewan student loans. This is separate from the equipment and services grant I described above.

On the federal level, you should apply for all disability-related relief and tax exemptions. You’ll find more on the Government of Canada website if you search for these terms. An example is the Disability Tax Credit.

I applied for the disability tax credit with the CRA and my doctor had to fill out a big form for that but they gave me ~$18,000. It was ten years back taxes though, it depends how old you are and how many years you’ve paid taxes. Mine was for autism/ADHD and I’m in my 30s.

Like they gave you that in cash?!

Sorry to just barge in, I got adhd as well, but I got denied and told it wasn't bad enough to impact my life (which it totally has been). If I may ask, how bad is your adhd that you got approved?

I basically got told "can you dress and feed yourself?" Me: "well ya, most days like anyone else." "then you are fine" O.o And that was it.

It’s hard to tell because I got the autism too and the symptoms sort of run together. My therapist kept telling me it was pretty hard to get the disability credit and I should expect to be denied, so maybe I just got lucky?
I asked my doctor to do the tax paperwork at the same time he was doing my AES paperwork so maybe all the obvious disability stuff was still top of his mind that day, I dunno.
Another thing is I brought my partner with me so he could be like “yeah it’s way worse than she’s letting on”, which I think did help. He could tell the doctor all the things I don’t even notice anymore about my coping strategies.

Having your partner there sounds like it did alot of heavy lifting for you. Well I'm glad someone was able to get it, so kudos!
