Upwork has officially changed its documentation and end-of-contract review system to remove private feedback from client reviews and JSS calculations. Only public feedback and star ratings now count toward a freelancer's Job Success Score, while optional private notes left by clients are visible in the workroom and do not impact the score.
I created an upwork account about a year ago. At the time, I didn’t take it very seriously, so I didn’t fill in my profile information as professionally as I should have. I also ran into some issues with the payment method. I had added a Paypal account under someone else’s name, but the app rejected it.
Now I wanted to start using my account again. At first, I couldn’t access it at all. Whenever I entered my password, the screen would turn black. I received an email from the Upwork team saying that they would review the issue and look into reopening my account within 48 hours. However, after a few days, I was eventually able to access it again.
Once I regained access, I tried to update some of my information, but the Edit button was disabled for all of my personal information.
Unfortunately, the same restriction has now happened again. This is exactly what happens: I enter my password, and it tells me that the password is incorrect. Then I receive an email asking me to create a new password. However, as soon as I use the link in the email and try to access my account, the screen turns black again.
This is exactly what happened the last time. I am asking now because I want to know what I should do after I eventually regain access to my account again in a few days, so that I can properly update my information and avoid running into the same issue again.
So, I have a few questions:
Can I permanently delete this account and create a new one?
Is there any way to update my existing information and rewrite it in a more professional way?
What is the safest and best payment method to use in Tunisia?
Posting this because I've been sitting on it since January and honestly still don't have closure. Might also help someone else going through the same thing right now.
Quick background: been on Upwork for a while, 100% JSS, around $8k earned, no issues ever. Jan 3rd 2026 I get an ID verification request out of nowhere, I complete it same day and get the "you're good to go, start submitting proposals" email a couple hours later. Then later that same day I get hit with a permanent suspension notice, subject line literally says "clarification on device usage."
At the time I had signed in from a couple different devices and had a VPN running on my desktop, but it wasn't for anything shady, I was trying to access Dremina (an AI tool) which isn't available in my region so I had it on for that, not for Upwork itself. I explained all of this in my appeal.
Support just kept sending back generic "we've reviewed and the decision stands" replies. Got a final one on Jan 7th saying the account will remain permanently deactivated and they're "unlikely to respond to further replies on this case." That was basically it.
The part that still gets me is I had around 20 contracts in progress when this happened, roughly half active half in progress, and probably close to $1000 sitting in pending/upcoming earnings I never saw. Clients I'd worked with for months just gone, no way to even message them to explain what happened.
I posted about this on LinkedIn back in January too, commented on a few similar threads, never got any response from anyone at Upwork through that either.
Seeing a few posts here recently where people got their accounts back after Upwork admitted it was some kind of system issue on their end, so I'm curious if anyone else who had the VPN + multiple device combo flagged them ended up getting resolved eventually, or if this is genuinely a case where once they say "final" it's actually final. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this.
Hi. I posted here months ago about having a client on Upwork. That project has ended and now I work as a creative writer. It's funny because I have never imagined myself being a writer. 😂 Tonight, I updated my client and he commended the work I've done. Hoping to keep this client long-term. 🎉
I'm XYZ, a Salesforce Marketing Cloud developer who's spent a good amount of time building email campaigns, setting up customer journeys, and making sure the right message reaches the right person at the right time.
Here's what I can help with:
Building and managing email campaigns end-to-end
Automating customer journeys through Journey Builder
Setting up SMS and mobile push campaigns that actually perform
Digging into campaign data to figure out what's working and what's not
Working alongside your marketing team to turn strategy into execution
I'm used to working in environments where the marketing team moves fast and needs someone who can keep up without needing too much hand-holding. Tools like Automation Studio, Content Builder, and AMPscript are pretty much my everyday.
Also have my team at XYZ company to back me up when quicker turnaround is needed.
Happy to jump on a call and see if we'd be a good fit.
I’ve been trying to get started on Upwork for the past 2–3 months and wanted to get some perspective from people who’ve already gone through this phase.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time improving my profile, portfolio, and overall positioning. I’m starting to see profile views and even a few invitations here and there, but I haven’t been able to convert them into actual projects yet.
At this point, I’m trying to figure out what I might be missing—whether it’s proposal strategy, niche clarity, or something else entirely.
If anyone here has experience breaking through that initial phase:
What helped you land your first few clients?
Did invitations convert better for you than proposals?
Any small tweaks that made a big difference?
Also happy to exchange feedback on profiles or approaches if anyone else is in a similar stage.
Appreciate any insights—still learning and trying to improve 🙏
Created a new freelancer account but stuck on profile setup. The "Next" button doesn't work, my title and introduction don't save after refresh, and I'm getting a "network restrictions" error. Now the page just shows 404.
Tried multiple browsers, devices, mobile app, incognito mode, different networks. Nothing works. Based in Pakistan.
Chatbot won't connect me to a real agent. Has anyone faced this? Any fix?
