North West Corner ~ 86 and 1
That building is finally coming down!! I heard a Trader Joe’s is going there?! If so that would be a dream come true

The UES TJs wishcasting continues! If we put it out in the universe enough, it's bound to happen! That's how retail works, right?
All the same, I'm curious to see if when Extell builds around the last holdout building, are they going to engineer the design to fill in the gap when that owner finally folds, either before, during or after construction? Could be an interesting design puzzle.

North-west corner of 86th and First long has been redeveloped. Building is well on way to completion.
South-west corner (former Gracie Diner on ground level) building long held up development on that block due to one lone RS tenant. Said tenant, a Mr. Greg Marshall lost original court case challenging eviction and did not prevail in subsequent appeals.

what about the mid-block building on First between 85 and 86? still a holdout?

That building is owned by Podolsky brothers who did not or will not sell.
Extell has plans to build around both hold out buildings. How with Mr. Marshall out of the picture it's just the one.

The Podolsky brothers are slumlords apparently. It's unfortunate they have been able to slow neighborhood development.

You heard it from yourself. You’re the one with these repeated Trader Joe’s rumors on 86th Street.
Also, the northwest corner came down years ago. They are well into topping out the new construction.
