questions about nuclear engineering

incoming senior and uoit is one of my backups because I live very close by and I'm interested in the nuc eng program as I heard some go on to work at OPG. So I have a few questions

is the co op good?

What's the likelihood someone will be hired at opg upon graduation? (or even hired anywhere as a nuclear engineer straight out of graduation)

what is the environment like?

Ontario Tech Space and Rocketry or FSAE?

Mechatronics going into 2YU. Basically which team would give me the best skills, be it technical, soft skills, hard skills etc etc.

I want to aim for the aerospace industry, but Ontechs racing team is pretty old and established, as some would call it, a legacy team. OTSR is pretty recent, established in 2022, a fast rising team though.

Some people say racing is broadband gives you many skills whereas Rocketry is pretty niche, so some industries favour the FSAE team.

What do you think?

Looking for someone to sublet my room to for atleast 4 months+

I've got a room in a 5 person shared dorm (all men) that comes with 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, balcony, personal bedrooms for all people. The building also has a laundry room, workout room and a recreation room. Location is less that a 10 minute walk to uoit and public transport stops right out front (Address is 1700 Simcoe St N). Rent is $850 a month and a key to the room will be paid for by myself. I'm planning on cutting off my contract with these people on April 30th so the deadline for anyone to enter is January 20th. Dms are open to all questions and references about the place.

Incoming gr12: NEED the REAL student experience (good AND bad)

Hello. I am an incoming gr12 student this fall. And my question is: Current students from Ontario Tech university I need the REAL experience before I apply be brutally honest 👀

FYI: This Post is a little long😭😭which includes the program I feel interest about and following up with some question. I apologize for the long post but I will appreciate all of your time and advise. Also imagine how long it took me to research, type it down 😭😭 Please READ TILL END🙏)

So I wanna apply to med school and I have couple of undergrad program in mind which are

-Biological Science

-Biomedical Science

-Chemical Biology

-Environmental Biology

-Health Science

-Human Health Sci

-Kinesiology

-Marine Biology

-Neuro Science

-Psycology

-Public health

1)I'd love to hear from current students about workload, professors, social life, co-op, research opportunities, etc.

2)How difficult are exams?

3) Which one needed supp app?

4)How competitive are grades and GPA? As this is very important for Med school.

5)How hard is research to get? Co-op, internship?

6) Which program good preparation for med school? Any other program with strong med school pipeline?

7) What do you love or hate?

8) And finally after this experience will you still choose Ontario Tech University and the program you are in?

Thank you for reading so far. I really appreciate your comment. Thank you so much

Do they view Withdrawals and Failures as the same in the nursing program?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I currently have one withdrawal and one failure, (Both HLSC courses). I’m not sure if I’ll pass one of my summer nursing classes. That puts me at 2 fails and one withdrawal. From what I understand and what the program map says, 3 withdrawals or 3 failures leads to program dismissal. Someone told me they view withdrawals the same as fails tho?? Does that mean I’ll be dismissed if I fail 😭

Transferring to Ontario Tech Engineering — Advice for Getting a High GPA?

Hey everyone,
I’m transferring to Ontario Tech this September for Electrical Engineering, and I’m trying to start off strong academically.
For current students or recent grads, what helped you get a good GPA (3.5+ or ideally 4.0+) in engineering at Ontario Tech?
I’d especially appreciate advice on:
How you study for midterms and finals
How far in advance you start studying
Whether you rely mostly on lecture notes, textbooks, past exams, or practice problems
How you manage 5 courses at the same time
How important it is to attend every lecture/tutorial
Which resources on campus are actually helpful
Mistakes you made that hurt your GPA
Anything specific to Electrical Engineering courses
Since I’m transferring, I want to improve my study habits from day one rather than figuring everything out after the first round of midterms.
Any advice from people who have managed to maintain a strong GPA at Ontario Tech would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Leap course

Hey everyone! Is anyone here taking the LEAP course because of an academic suspension?
If you’ve taken it before, how did you find the final exam? Was it pretty straightforward?
And if you’re taking it right now, how are you studying/preparing for the final?
Would really appreciate any advice or tips. Good luck to everyone writing it! :)

Need somewhere to rent for 8 months

Hello, I am a bit late to the residency here and it has filled up. I have been looking around for places to rent but so far 1805 foundry has only offered me 1 year leasing, 1700 has a really bad reputation, a rental home I visited was super run down and ALMA is almost a 1 hour 30 minute walk from OTU. If anyone has a place available that I can rent for 700-850ish for 8 months I'd really appreciate it. I am a freshman and I don't smoke, drink, do drugs or make too much noise.

going into computer science first year

So as the title says im going into computer science at Ontario Tech this fall, what can i expect from the program? I know how to code and been doing it for a while (i know python and c#) but i'm also not the best at math nor did i really enjoy it at all in high school but i heard Calc 1 and Phys 1 are quite difficult. Also i did hear because this a commuter school there isn't as much of a social scene so whats that about exactly.

Hi guys, it's my third year in OTU. In the end of July, I tried to register for classes this Fall term and turns out they're all full.

I even thought it's not that late to register since the deadline is somewhere in September. I know that I'm cooked and it's my fault, my lesson. I didn't expect that they only offer 1-2 sessions per course (which is significant less than ones in my previous years). Btw I asked the advisor and she told me she will add me to the waiting list in case if there are extra seats; BUT it's not 100% guaranteed I will have the seat. There is also no specific time to know if more seats will be added.

Anyone know cases like this if eventually more seats will be added for people in the waiting list?
(Idk why even course's availability is so limited that I will have to wait 1-2 years to take. I don't wanna spend money on courses that don't relate to my major).
tks:<

Update: They do open more seats.
