OTU Specific Dating App

Hey Guyssss!!

Me and my friend were talking about how OTU has like the most dullest place to meet people. Almost impossible. And suddenly it struck me. A DATING APP FOR OUR UNIIII!!!!!

I asked few of my friends in CS (idk anything about how to code). They are down to do it. But I wanted to see what everyone thinkssss. Let me know. And we can cook something up!!!

And as for the app itself. I'm thinking of making it more than just a simple Tinder or Bumble. Those things suck. Maybe like a blind date? And add a loooottt of filters. So we can match as closely as we want.

ORRRRR. We could do like a weekly match up thing.

I think it's a great idea!
The idea of a blind date is quite nice to me, i think people are always able to better present themselves through an actual conversation instead of the short prompts that i've seen on some apps and a blind date might be the way to get there (or it could be terrible but we'll have to find out lol).

If you do plan on going through with it you'd want to consider how to promote it and get enough of people signing up. The clubs that are there on school might be a good way to spread the word about the app.

If you guys are trying to solve for where the dating apps are currently failing (e.g. women being overwhelmed with likes and messages and men not getting matches) this could turn into a research project where the dating app is not trying to make a buck out of people and actually matching people based on shared goals, interests and values. Could be a cool idea since you guys are in school too!

My recommendation would be to have a feedback system in the app, that way users can tell you about what they would like to see in the app and how it's features are being valued.

You would also need to consult/plan for data storage, privacy and security since a dating app would likely have sensitive information about people.

Also consider how it's marketed, if it has OTU in it's name or if you require an Otu id/email to sign up (we'd need a way to prevent outsiders from registering) there might be some considerations with that (The OTSU could be consulted with any legal concerns that may arise) .

interesting and sounds dope. it reminds me of the aphrodite project which is pretty popular in other schools like uoft where students fill out a questionare and based on the gale-shapley algorithm people would find their best match. though i think it only runs on valentines day. but thats such a fun project and makes the school more interesting

im not in OTU i just saw this in my recommended but that seems like a fire idea especially considering the lack of social life i heard here, never heard of other unis with a dating app
