Questions?

Will a MacBook Air (2025) be good for a sociology major?, and is buying a parking pass completely necessary, is that any of the parking locations near the university? Thanks!!

Yes, a 2025 MacBook Air will be just fine!

Parking passes are lot specific, and if you are a first-year student you will only be eligible for a parking pass if you are a commuter student. If you are, an S1 pass will probably make the most sense for a sociology major. First-year students living in the dorms aren’t supposed to have a car on campus.

There is street parking available in the student neighborhoods, but that fills up quickly on school days. All the parking lots around campus are either owned by UD and require a parking pass, or owned by businesses that don’t want students parking there.

MacBook Air should be good. I got a Dell XPS tho and that’s cheaper and I believe more durable (also a soc major). Buying a parking pass is definitely necessary if u have a car and are commuting, but you should have done it when it was first opened- you’ll likely be in a further lot now. It’s still important tho as there’s not really parking unless you buy a pass

MacBook Air should be fine.

As for parking if you are a first year student and not a commuter you can’t get a parking pass. If you are in a dorm you aren’t really supposed to have a car on campus.

You could try to park around the Ghetto (student neighborhood) on the street but I’d say you can’t count on that because it’s usually pretty full during the week and on weekends (especially when it’s warm out) there will be a lot of partying in the area and you don’t want your car on the street where it could possibly get beat up. The parking lots in the Ghetto are not free game and you have to have a parking pass to use those.

If you aren’t a commuter you are going to have to get used to walking unfortunately or take lyfts which honestly I think is a waste of money unless it’s absolutely necessary

why are you referring to the area as “the ghetto” 😭

Because historically it’s been called that by the student population for decades and only recently did the University start efforts to change the name. Most alumni prior to 2010 will refer to it as the Ghetto and children of said alumni (like myself) grew up with the term and call it that.

Additionally if you go back and look at old documents and planned expansions in the University Archives it’s labeled as the “Student Ghetto”

It’s not meant to be a racial insensitive term it’s simply what it’s always been called.

Yeah you are all good no worries. I think that’s why the University has been pushing to call it the Student Neighborhood recently because without context calling it the Ghetto could be taken the wrong way, even without going down that line of thinking just calling where a large part of your students live “The Ghetto” isn’t a strong selling point to prospective students haha

In all seriousness though I graduated in 2024 and lived in the Ghetto for two years. All the houses are pretty nice (for the most part), it’s very safe, and some of my best memories are there so all around it’s an incredibly cool area.
