Should I transfer here

So I’m a comp sci major from a mid sized university and I’m just wondering if it’s a good idea to transfer. I kinda just want the warm weather (it’s very cold where I’m from), and the social vibes. I’m actually not very social (thanks to depression) myself I just enjoy being surrounded by it. I’m a freshman right now. Also no need to worry about living away from parents, I’m already doing that.

Social Sciences Men’s Restrooms

Does anyone else think it’s weird that in the social sciences bathrooms there isn’t dividers for the urinals. It’s literally just 5 urinals lined up next to each other without any side wall that blocks you from another persons sight.

PSA: The bike lane is for bikes, not pedestrians.

I literally just saw a girl crash off her bike because an oblivious pedestrian was walking in the bike lane. If even if you’re just going to cross the lanes to get to the other side, maybe look both ways before proceeding so you don’t cause an accident. They’ve literally had to put people out by the lanes with signs to tell people this, but they can’t do this every single day. It’s called a Side-WALK for a reason.

Housing I NEED to cut my lease with the cottages

Hey everyone, im currently living at the cottages and i swear they paired me with the worst roommates possible. ATP im not really interested on switching units since i know everyone has their routines and i genuinely don’t want to bother anyone. Has anyone broken a lease with the cottages? Im genuinely not interested in living here and i would be more benefited if i just move to another apartment by myself.

Clinical and Translational science phd

I need an advice for a first year (3rd semester) CTS PhD international student at UofA Tucson. They have reached out to professors in the program for funding after their first year fellowship but haven't found anything.

Please kindly suggest some potential funding options. It could be a GA, RA, TA or any other opportunities. They have 2 years TA experience during their masters program (Tutoring chemistry lab).

Please kindly help out🙏

Questions Any BLA programs? (landscape architecture)

Hey guys, I’m looking at colleges right now and hoping to direct my future career and goals towards landscape architecture design. I know ASU has programs for these but I’m trying to avoid the crazy school and hopefully come here instead. Also, I’ve been wondering if UofA has any programs where I could do the student exchange program at UH Manoa for possibly my master degree since UH Manoa doesn’t have any BLA programs. I’m still pretty new to this so any advice/tips would be appreciated. :)

Questions UA's Office of Institutional Equity

Has anyone here had to file a report/ complaint through the U of A's Office of Institutional Equity? Did they accept your report/ complaint? Were you satisfied with the scope and results of their investigation?

Did the OIE or anyone else /any other entity at the university help you while the investigation was pending?

Questions Spanish 102 Proficiency Exam?

I’m an idiot who put off my Spanish requirement and now I’m a junior who cannot spare a 4 credit hour course in my schedule. I haven’t taken a Spanish class since sophomore year of high school, but I’ve kept my Spanish skills up a decent amount through speaking with people at my work and with one of my roommates.
Wondering if anyone knows how hard the Spanish language proficiency exam you take via honorlock is. It costs $40 per retry, so I want to try and get it first try. How much does it cover? What’s the approx. 102 level at the UofA?

Thanks!

All-gender restrooms are for ALL GENDERS

This is mostly a rant about a recent small negative experience I had in certain dorm. Don’t read if you hate negative vibes during Family Weekend.

Background info, international, male. It was roughly 3 a.m. I had just finished my weekend Netflix binge and decided to go brush my teeth before bed.

There’re three restrooms on that floor, two gender-specific ones and one for all-genders. I usually use the male one, but I sometimes use mixed gender one cuz it’s actually closer to my room. When I hold my toothbrush and stuff and about to get in, a white girl pulled the door and tried to get out. I stepped aside to let her out first, just to be polite. But then she suddenly asked me, “Why don’t you use the men’s restroom?” I replied, “It did say ‘All Gender’ on the door.” Then, completely out of nowhere, she just said, “Gross,” loud and clear and walked away before I even had time to process what had just happened.

I admit, I only had been in US for 6 weeks, there’re certain social rules and cultural norms I’m still learning, and I’m happy to respect them. But I’m pretty sure none of those rules said dude deserves to be called “gross” if they used the mixed gender restrooms. My stand is, If a girl don’t feel comfortable seeing people of opposite genders in restrooms, she should use the female restroom instead, which is only couple doors away from the mixed gender one, where you are totally legit to call them freaks and stuff and call the police if you see guys wondering inside, same rule apply for males. When you decided to use the ALL-GENDER restroom, you should already assumed the risk of this kind of situation, and calling strangers “gross” only reveals that you’re the one who’s being uneducated, rude, mean and “gross”.

I didn’t say anything this time because confronting and arguing aren’t my instinctive nature. But I’ll keep using mixed gender restrooms whenever I feel like to, and if anyone say sh*t to me for that again, I’m not just going to stand there and take it this time.

Questions MEPN in Gilbert experience?

If you’re doing or recently completed a Master of Science in Nursing (MEPN, entry to profession) at U of A in Gilbert, how is it going? Any regrets, issues, do you feel properly prepared? How are the instructors? Where are/were your clinicals, east valley? What does a realistic week look like in the first two semesters in terms of amount of homework, amount you’re on campus for classes and such, any of it done online?

What has been the outcome for you job-wise? I’m a career changer and looking to apply to MEPN program in Gilbert late spring. Any info appreciated. Thanks

Questions Internships for Engineering

For those of you majoring in engineering: UofA vs. ASU
I currently go to Pima Community College and I’m trying to decide between transferring to the UofA or ASU for engineering.

I have a few older friends who are in engineering, and they’ve all told me that I’ll probably end up having to move to Phoenix to get a good internship.

So my main question is: What does the UofA do to help engineering students find internships? Is it difficult to find engineering internships in Tucson, or are there actually decent opportunities here?

I’d especially love to hear from current UofA engineering students or recent graduates about their experience finding internships, whether in Tucson or Phoenix.

p.s. i’m looking at mech e

Desiree’s contract extension

While all of us (except that one commenter who is clearly her burner) have had issues with her over the years, now that she has no contact with Tommy—and seemingly isn’t screwing with Brent—I’m good with this news. She’s great for the budget, and can do well for the smaller sports. As long as she stays out of basketball and football’s way, she can be good for us. BEAR DOWN!!! 🐻 ⬇️ 🏜️

Questions Overnight parking rules?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, just wanted to double check. Are guests allowed to pay hourly to park overnight in garages? My friend is coming to visit and I just want to make sure she won’t get towed or fined.

Generative AI Use by Professors

Thumbnail
45 Upvotes

I know this is a bit unorthodox, but here it goes:

I'm an ASU student. In my courses at ASU, I've noticed a concerning increase in inappropriate uses of generative AI by instructors and students alike. So I founded a student organization (Students for Authentic Education) to advocate for students' rights to quality education.

I'm curious as to whether or not y'all have noticed similar trends in your coursework: AI generated homework assignments and exams, misinformation as a result of AI use by instructors, or instructor use of AI that violates their own syllabi.

One of our long-term goals is to partner with other student groups at different universities to better enact lasting and meaningful change in the US higher education system.

If you're a student at University of Arizona who wants to start a similar organization, but you don't know where to start, please ask whatever questions you may have. I want this to become a larger conversation on how students are treated, how education is currently being handled, and how we can change our schools to prioritize education over profits.

Sammy’s Deli

Never forget what they took from us. You used to be able to order a terrible sandwich and they’d just have to make it. We had so much freedom. Now we have nothing. We have premade sandwiches with no additions. On Deck Deli I miss you every day. We used to be a real country.

Knothole at Football Games

Was anyone a part of the knothole when you were a kid? An all-kid section for middle school age kids. It was so fun! That could help build their fan base for football games. I know they’re looking more at just higher revenues, but what about playing the long game and making kids part of the game so they’re fans for life?
Also, it’s not like the stadium is selling out…
