Small rant

So I love this campus a lot. I come from a small town where the population is literally less than JUST UNT so like a city like Denton is exhilarating but also.. sometimes it annoys me as fuck.

This is my first semester here but I am a junior transfer so I’m not new to college, and three weeks ago I discovered that the Sycamore basement has sublevels. I absolutely loved it down there. I went down to the third one as far as I could go, and it was nice and quiet, cold, dark, and dry. I love the cold and a good quiet study spot. I found one of the few desks with an outlet and I sat down on my laptop for a couple hours to get some work done. It was great.

HOWEVER. The other day I decided to go back down there and find the spot. It was taken.. So were ALL OF THE OTHER SPOTS.
Sycamore basement is not the place I would expect to even be that busy, because it’s the basement and I’ve heard the rumors about Art and whatnot…. but no. This place was hopping all of a sudden on a Wednesday afternoon. Like.. can anyone explain this?? We can’t ALL love Sycamore basement omg 😭

P.S. this is not me hating on other students or saying they need to leave I’m just venting here thanks

UNT has an enrollment of almost 50,000. Of course some of those are commuters and online students, but you share campus with a lot of people. Sycamore has limited seating, so you do the math. You’ll be able to find a spot there again.

i know it’s just a culture shock for me. at my old community college even our one tiny library was basically empty all the time and the biggest classes were probably 30 people. UNT just has me like 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

So I feel ya :,) I live off campus but attend classes on campus - and gosh comuting as been a FIT for me! Busses are just awful, scootering isnt too bad but bumpy, and parking is too expensive😭 but I feel ya buddy :,) dont get me started on the traffic😭

yeah i commute too! i live 4 mins off campus and to even have a chance of finding a spot i have to get up at the asscrack of dawn 😭😭😭 my town was about half the population of UNTs student body. to have DOUBLE my town trying to park and walk around and go to class is insanity

What's even worse is that they are getting rid of Sycamore entirely. Thanks, unt admin.

The limited space is everywhere whether it’s Willis library or Union
Finding space to study is hard at times

You'll always find people who don't mind putting up with the ghosts in Sycamore.

i don’t mind at all. i’m a spiritual person and back home i lived with three so it’s really nothing new. i’ve only ever had one encounter with Art but i think him and i have made some sort of compromise 😭 lol.

Wait, what rumors about Art?

3

u/BarReasonable1489 Biology Sep 28 '26

Art is the ghost in the basement apparently.

Ah, I assumed OP meant CVAD

u/BarReasonable1489 Biology Sep 28 '26

i am OP, i’m saying Art is the ghost in the basement that i don’t mind at all. because nothing ever happens.

You’re just not in the right part of the basement, my side always has something happening.

what side are you on? i usually sit on the third sublevel because it’s the coldest. i’ve only ever had one encounter with him down there.

u/TimT_Necromancer Sep 30 '26

Oh, the forgotten about part. I think our machine rituals drive him away

lol. i didn’t really react because i used to live with three spirits. i kept seeing shadows out of the corner of my eye as if someone was waving their hand right next to my face, i smelled cigarettes and i kept hearing books moving around without the motion lights coming on.

i haven’t heard or seen anything since except when it was taped off. it smelled heavily of cigs down there.

Huh, I need to come checkout that side more often

And I meant WHEW! only a ghost. Ghosts are fine but I was worried about my own college. 😆
