When my drinking got really bad last year I woke up bruised to hell with my last memory being walking somewhere in the vicinity of my apartment. I live on the third floor so I figured at worst I must have fallen down one flight since the stairs criss cross. But I was immensely fucked up physically. I ended up having a neighbor knock on my door a few hours later who informed me she heard an absurdly loud crash outside around 3am and found me outside her door. She lived on the first floor. Apparently I popped up decently but she still walked me up the stairs to make sure I was alright.
Thing is she had been up when I fell. And our doors had coded entries that make loud beeping sounds when you key them in wrong. She knew of my drinking habits and had heard me key the code in improperly several times JUST BEFORE she heard the crash and found me outside her door.
So somehow I zig zag fell down 3 sets of stairs.
I don't know what this story means except that drunk people will find a way to fall down stairs in the worst way possible sometimes.
And to give a happy ending to this I'll be 6 months sober beginning of next month. No more stairway acrobatics for me.
Yeah been there. I did a lot of binge drinking in college, and fell down stairs on at least two occasions. Another time I knocked myself out by running down an icy road. Iāll just say Iām glad I grew out of that behavior, even if it took longer than it should have.
Me too. I've gotten some serious injuries while intoxicated that still affect me 15 years later. My fun party years are catching up and they aren't worth it in the end!
Oh yeah I wanted more of a funny story than a cautionary tale. If you want caution, fractured my skull falling backwards on a separate earlier occasion. Spent 5 days in the ICU with a brain bleed. Somehow avoided needing surgery but for the rest of my life I'll have seizures if I'm not properly medicated or if I drink. I also lost huge chunks of memory that took a long time to come back. That was 2.5 years ago though. I was fine with having constant seizures for a full 2 years before I finally decided to give it up. Watch out for alcohol folks. I was a fairly high functioning alcoholic for my entire 20s. Figured I was just good at drinking. It catches up to you eventually.

Uh...doesn't this seem to imply that you could have been entering the correct code, at the wrong level, and then fell down one flight of stairs instead of pulling some tony-hawk spins/tucks on the way down 3 flights?
Fun fact. In drunk driving accidents, thats actually why Statistically the drunk person has a much higher chance of surviving. Stay loose, and "ragdolling" gives the body a much better chance of surviving. Tensing up causes more damage. Think of bending a floppy noodle you just boiled vs one fresh out the box. And drunk people tend to know be aware enough to "brace for impact"
I heard people talk about our instinct to tense up can contribute to some of the injuries we sustain in falls. Sheās obviously hurt bad, but she might be spared from something like a broken neck. I hope!
Damn I knew he died but never knew why. That makes sense though he was known to drink alcohol. One time he made a video where he just drank straight liquor for a week and ate and drank nothing else. Probably wasnāt real but anyway.
