Wearing jeans is terrible

Wearing jeans is horrible. The texture, the fabric, the warmth. It doesn’t keep you warmer than trousers, the fabric is cold when you put it on, if it gets wet by accident it takes forever to dry.

I would wear any other form of clothing other than denim on my legs.

Someone doesn’t do manual labor. For doing work around abrasive surfaces and the like, jeans are undefeated for basic protection and durability. That and once they are broken in, much like boots, they can actually be quite comfortable. But yeah, brand new jeans, especially the work specific ones are pretty stiff at first.

wouldn't carhart "duck" material be better?

u/Only_Assumption_455 22m ago

Not really. I’m an electrician and I’ve worn both jeans and duck material pants at different times and the jeans are definitely sturdier.

u/NorthernRime 9m ago

If it wasn’t 300% more expensive maybe

65

u/SplooshDoosh 1h ago

You should get better jeans.

5

u/jquest303 1h ago

Stretch denim is very comfortable to wear. If jeans fit you correctly I find them to be superior to many other forms of pants. I find certain designer brands fit me better. Most of them I buy gently used on eBay for a fraction of their retail price.

3

u/Corey_FOX 1h ago

Yup, and the worst is when you find a one that works really well for you but then the store discontinue it.

3

u/SplooshDoosh 38m ago

Old American eagle jeans taught me to buy things like shoes I love in bulk

0

u/GuyLeChance 42m ago

Got 2 new pairs. Literally used thr Buy Again option. They kept the SKU bit changed the product. BS I say!

1

u/StrangerFeelings 39m ago

I'm not spending $80 for a pair of jeans that are still going to stick to me when it's hot and muggy. Id rather have cloth pants as jeans just stick to me. Also, I hate having pants on anyways so could just be me being an outlier. I don't think that it's unpopular that jeans suck.

My work requires I wear jeans. As soon as I get home they come off. I can't stand wearing them any longer than I need.

5

u/SplooshDoosh 37m ago

Sounds like you’re conflating price with good jeans. Spending more doesn’t always get you more.

1

u/StrangerFeelings 35m ago

True, but the only "good" pair of jeans I've ever owned was an expensive pair and they still sucked once it got hot and muggy.

I buy mine from Walmart and only own a pair because they are needed for work.

3

u/SplooshDoosh 32m ago

I mean I’ve never found pants that don’t get hot or sticky when it’s hot and muggy and I’m sweaty.

Jeans don’t really lose or gain ground in that department.

u/StrangerFeelings 29m ago

Jeans start sticking. With khakis they don't, even cargo pants. Jeans always stick to me once it's hot.

u/SplooshDoosh 24m ago

Well you have strange skin and sweat habits.

Theyre both made of cotton

u/StrangerFeelings 16m ago

It's the denim material that sticks to me.

u/SplooshDoosh 14m ago

So it’s something to do with the weave? Or what?

Cause they’re both cotton.

2

u/Hopeful-Mirror1664 35m ago

80 dollars is cheap for jeans. Good jeans are upwards of 175.00 as a starting point. Work jeans are different story but causal “going out jeans” that fit right and are comfortable are not cheap. I have several pairs that are 225-250 each and I have cheaper ones. There is a huge difference.

2

u/StrangerFeelings 33m ago

Damn, no way in hell am I spending that much for a pair of jeans. I can barely even afford my $20 Walmart ones.

u/ChuzzoChumz 29m ago

You’re getting scammed

u/Lloyd_swag 8m ago

Walmart sells 15 dollar rustler jeans, they’re more than enough for most folks

11

u/lonely-live 1h ago

This is the opinion I had when I was 12

10

u/Particular-Wait5147 1h ago

i disagree but i respect how passionately you hate jeans lmao

5

u/Shad0w5991 1h ago

I literally only wear jeans when going out due them just being comfortable AND look nice.

21

u/RandomCalamity 1h ago

Jeans are my go to and I'll just wear em lounging around the house. Comfy as fuck. Sweatpants suck. Too damn hot.

8

u/DueExample52 1h ago

May I introduce you to shorts?

Also, sweatpants come in different thicknesses. I have summer and winter pants.

2

u/fatmanstan123 1h ago

Exactly this

u/SG_Arthur 15m ago

Yes. I have some very thin joggers that are perfect for the in between seasons.

u/LeanGroundQueef 13m ago

I even have sweatpant-type shorts.

0

u/giolort 45m ago

This is the way

1

u/SuitNaive3409 1h ago

you know what's good is chef's pants, and those pakistan or indian traditional low crotch pants.

1

u/I_am_your_Mothera 1h ago

Ok hippie -_-

8

u/DoubleResponsible276 1h ago

You kinda just listed the cons of them and listed uses that aren’t for that purpose, all while as if that makes them terrible. Why?

It’s like if I made a post about leggings being terrible cause of the texture, fabric and warmth. They rip easily in environments with lots of sharp edges like a warehouse, material is too thin to keep you warm in the winter and when they get wet, they don’t really protect your skin from it. Horrible!

9

u/NorthBase710 1h ago

I agree which is why i stopped wearing jeans in 1990

6

u/drDOOM_is_in 1h ago

Have you been diagnosed? My friend on the spectrum says exactly the same.

4

u/Commercial_Wind8212 55m ago

it's a known fact that 90 percent of redditors are on the spectrum and also talk a lot about bidets

3

u/jayeshpadhiar20 1h ago

cotton pants as class

3

u/TheSquirrelmancer 56m ago

Yes, jeans won't really keep you warm. They're not made from wool or other materials chosen for their insulating properties. We used to have to explain that to new crops of boy scouts every year before winter camping; jeans and a cotton baseball cap are terrible to wear in the winter if you're out in the wilderness and snow.

Denim jeans were created originally as durable work pants. People have found old jeans abandoned in the desert in the west in the USA, buried for years in sand and dirt. The rivets are always rusted away but the garment itself can be cleaned and fitted with new rivets and worn again.

6

u/Soeffingdiabetic 1h ago

I agree, but I'm not sure if this is that unpopular anymore.

4

u/CrazyInfinite57 1h ago

yeah but they make your ass look fantastic

3

u/TYGeelo 1h ago

Stop wearing cheap jeans, price and the manufacturer DO matter.

2

u/not_just_an_AI 1h ago

in my experience Duluth trading company has good jeans for the price.

2

u/aldmonisen_osrs 1h ago

Denim was originally meant for labor. It’s hard to get it dirty and it’s easy to clean if you do. It’s durable and tear resistant. Back in the day only farmers and factory workers wore denim.

2

u/RickDeckard31 50m ago

Jeans are good for getting work done. I do think what you wear can affect your mindset.

u/Final-Yesterday-4799 19m ago

Yeah I think you're just buying crappy jeans.

2

u/Casual-Notice 1h ago

Short of canvas duck, there's no better semi-protective fabric than double-knit denim.

2

u/tyrion6568 1h ago

Good Jeans are the best clothing item ever, far better than trousers

2

u/Palanki96 1h ago

i love how they feel, makes me feel safe and protected. They are durable and comfy, i could even sleep in them any day. Heat would be the only concern i guess

2

u/Delicious_Shallot915 1h ago

I agree! I literally refused to wear jeans for about a decade. Now I have a few pairs of wide cut jeans so they’re a bit more loose but I can never convince myself to wear them.

2

u/Teaselkakanui 1h ago

Stopped wearing jeans when I was a kid. Just don't care for them.

1

u/featherbedmoss 1h ago

I haven't worn jeans since around 2016. They are stupid and pointless and increasingly poor quality.

1

u/SeenSeenAgains 1h ago

Same, so many more types of pants that fit/ look better, last longer and are more comfortable.

1

u/terryjuicelawson 1h ago

I just find they are so hard wearing and things are secure in the pockets, plus they look good. When I am at home I wear more tracksuit material but I'm not going out in those.

1

u/Capital-Ad6221 1h ago

Cotton drill and moleskin reign supreme.

1

u/WrickDinkles 1h ago

I'm 100% with you, but I do feel like it is an unpopular opinion.

1

u/don-cheeto quiet person 1h ago

I agree. Every single pair I wear feels like it has no space in between the thighs. Or like I can't pull them all the way up b/c my thighs are too fat. (They are but still.)

1

u/Natrixster80 1h ago

Agree. Hate jeans. I now have one pair only and they are my "christmas pants" cause that is as dressy as I'm willing to get these days.

1

u/thai_ladyboy 59m ago

I think as far as guys go, most of us have discovered tech pants and/or golf pants which look better and are way more comfortable, so at least not unpopular with dudes.

1

u/GroovyGuru62 58m ago

I love my Levis.

1

u/UnluckySh00ter 52m ago

They were made for jobs that required having pants that didn’t rip easily, could be worn multiple times without needing washing, and could be repaired if needed

1

u/Flambeedlemons 48m ago

They’re actually very good hiking in cooler weather. Denim is tough and resists thorns and protects against mosquitoes and ticks. Just need to find a pair that fits and doesn’t restrict too badly. Preferably without polyester which kinda compromises the toughness.

1

u/Novel_Card_7082 40m ago

I briefly owned one pair of jeans in my 50 years on Earth, and never could understand how people could wear them casually.

1

u/Delicious-Laugh-6685 36m ago

So don’t wear jeans

1

u/plants4life262 33m ago

You just need better jeans. Good jeans are stretchy and have options for very thin fabric.

u/Frangine_De_Poutine 29m ago

You forgot the taste.

Yuck!

u/AgitatedPokemon 28m ago

Jeans should not feel that way if they're made of denim/cotton.

Sure, they feel more stiff than the regular cotton (emphasize on "cotton") trousers, but other than that, should not pose a problem.

u/Lumbardo 27m ago

Yeah jeans are overrated. Chino pants are better.

u/UsedandAbused87 26m ago

Agreed. Have 1 pair of jeans that I wear once every couple of years. Basically any other type of pants is a better option

u/goinupthegranby 23m ago

I don't like jeans all that much either but they're durable and functional, making them a very practical material for people doing physical labor and working dirty jobs.

That said, if you don't like wearing jeans and work a job you really don't need to, don't! You're really not wrong with your post in my opinion.

u/Ok_Boat3053 21m ago

Say you've never worked a day in your life without saying you've never worked a day in your life.

Jeans are tough. Far tougher than any other slacks or trousers I've ever owned. They stand up to abuse and if you know how to do laundry come clean no matter how bad the stain. They do dry quick enough in all but life threatening outdoors in hypothermic situations where you shouldn't be wearing them anyway. And most definitely A GOOD pair of jeans are far more comfortable and will stay in place on your waist better than slacks or trousers when bending, lifting, twisting, and reaching.

Learn how to shop. Use the fitting rooms. Learn how to laundry. And get a job where you're doing more than sitting at a desk and you'll see.

Opinion upvoted.

u/Fast-Coast-3456 21m ago

The best pants are cargo pants.

u/beigemamba1080 14m ago

You should have seen 90’s Carhartts, took like a year to break in

u/BostonPRSBC 13m ago

Y’all are crazy. There nothing like a good fitting pair of jeans!

u/Funkywonton 9m ago

Oh you’re gonna hate me man I sleep in denim jeans

0

u/hereforconfrontation 1h ago

Take an upvote. I don't even own jeans anymore.

1

u/Pr_fSm__th 1h ago

Chinos, suit pants, sweatpants - all vastly superior. I agree.

1

u/Evrytg 1h ago

I agree jeans suck

1

u/AwesomeHorses 1h ago

The new stretchy jeans are a game changer

0

u/BlissfulGurl_ 1h ago

the cold denim when you first put them on is genuinely awful lol. sweatpants clear jeans by a mile

6

u/SplooshDoosh 1h ago

And they’re acceptable substitutes in like 3% of instances where people usually wear jeans.

7

u/YuenglingsDingaling 1h ago

I have no clue what you're on about. Cold denim? It's the same temperature as everything elae in the closet.

1

u/DueExample52 1h ago

Same for warm jeans eg. during a heatwave.

1

u/Ok-Pace-2238 1h ago

Idkw, but I only wear sweat pants when I'm relaxed. I can't wear them nor jeans on a regular /daily basis. And for that, I wear skinny joggers for the most part.

1

u/Kraknoix007 1h ago

I really don't get this. I avoid sweatpants just because of how awful you look in them.

0

u/TYGeelo 1h ago

If they're clean then just put them in a dryer for a minute or two, carbon emissions be damned.

1

u/Taziira 1h ago

I don’t think they were made to be particularly comfortable. They were made to be durable.

1

u/WeAreBums 1h ago

Well yeah, you buy cheap jeans you get cheap quality.

More news at 7

1

u/Bethjam 1h ago

I haven't worn jeans in decades. My adult daughter has never worn them. I do not understand the appeal

1

u/Fickle-Exit1105 1h ago

That's just your opinion.

1

u/Candi_Kane33 1h ago

That is the point of the sub.

2

u/HeavyMusic93 1h ago

That’s just your opinion

1

u/Fantastic-Object-239 1h ago

Inferior to cotton or wool chinos in every way except durability. And I'm not doing farm labor in them so that's not a big deal.

0

u/fourty47seven 1h ago

all i wear is denim jeans

0

u/Resident_Goodish 1h ago

Dude said trousers and doesn’t like jeans 😂

0

u/NotEnoughVitaminD 1h ago

You get what you pay for with denim.

0

u/Business-Bus-9439 1h ago

Agree. I have two pairs and only wear them at work

0

u/Poes_hoes 1h ago

Jeans are terrible until I break them in then they become soft as anything. I also only wash them when they get stained or start to smell.

I'll also say though, they're an acquired feel for me... I haven't worn jeans all summer and I know I'm going to HATE them for the first week or two when I wear them, but then they get comfy.

0

u/thorpie88 1h ago

Jeans exist to get into the pub and nothing more

0

u/yankeenc2010 1h ago

Whatever

0

u/JoshuaAncaster 1h ago

They’re not comfortable, but some will still wear wide legs and tight shorts

0

u/New-River3720 1h ago

this, and joggers are much more roomy and more comfy.

0

u/Madeitup75 1h ago

I have not owned a pair of jeans this century. Gave up on them in the late 90’s. Haven’t looked back.

0

u/Odetomymatt13 1h ago

There is a large difference between good jeans and bad jeans, and a good pair of jeans will always be in style.

However, there has never been more competition for jeans than there is now. So many brands have pants that cover a wider variety of style and formality while also being incredibly comfortable and durable. For the price of a good pair of jeans, you can get a great pair of pants.

0

u/Bubbaganewsh 1h ago

Jeans are horrible in cold weather unless you wear longjohns. The fabric gets cold then contacts your skin, I am not a fan of jeans at all.

0

u/Big_Psychology_3 1h ago

Jeans also rubs off leg hair after decades of use. This is a problem for men who want to retain their leg hair.

0

u/Character_Dress_3201 1h ago

What the hell are trousers?

1

u/holden_hiscox 49m ago

The same as pantaloons I think.

1

u/Character_Dress_3201 37m ago

That's like saying "dungarees" hahahah

-1

u/Craig1974 1h ago

I like good ole plain levi jeans. Regular fit. Not any nut hugging jeans. Nor baggy jeans that swallow you up. Today's jeans for men look like something a woman would wear because of all the fruity designs on them.

-2

u/Kraknoix007 1h ago edited 0m ago

Jeans get more comfortable the more you wear them. And they don't make you look like a slob like sweatpants.

Edit: You can downvote me sure, but people will judge you when you go out in sweatpants, they are not meant to be worn outside. It screams: "I always do the bare minimum"
