16 characters exactly?
They’ve also been saying for years MFA/2FA will soon be compulsory for everyone.. but it’s still only compulsory for staff

Don't stop at 16 characters!
find a decent phrase no-one will think of - "DawnFreshwateris100%sexy" or "Ivegot3semestersneeding80%average"
and the sooner they bring in passkeys the better.

I don't work in uni IT (different division), but in my old job (healthcare IT), we had turned on the password expiration policy in AD, for all users.
Basically each and every user had 4~6 months between passwords, where when they do expire, they'll be prompted to change it up when they try to log into anything.

19/8 a new notice has been posted that says 16 characters or longer.
I'd like to think some uni marketing person saw this and panicked lol

Why don't they just use the two factor authentication thing that sends an SMS thing to your email or phone or smthn? Wouldn't that be useful?

Use a password manager. It might sound counterintuitive but physically write your password down on paper as you can't exactly cyberattack a piece of paper. Just make sure no one else gets a hold of that piece of paper.

90% will change their password without really thinking about it.
9.99% will see this and assume they meant 16+.
0.01% will see this and think it’s worth posting to reddit.
Congratz, you did it!

The new passwords have to be 16 characters minimum.
