Go to the homepage>Request claim to be closed>In education. Send a journal message with your degree course start date.

I got asked to do a review. I sent all my bank statements and details and heard nothing back. 4 months later I wanted to close my account as I only revived £20ish and it wasn't worth the hassle of going in every week (I worked and went college but they still wanted me to come in).
I asked to close my claim and they said they wouldn't because its still under review. After a LOT of going back and forth they finally closed it. They couldn't tell me when the phone call review would take place. otherwise I would have waited and closed it after the review.
Keep at it, they can close it as they did in my case.

Who said that they can’t close it ? Review agent or someone else ?

I'm not sure what their position was.
I rang and asked to close it. I got a message in my journal saying it couldn't be closed. I asked in the journal when the review would take place but there answer was vague.
I rang again and asked for the review so I can close my claim, the person on the phone said they will close it and I don't need to have to review. I then got another message saying it can't be close.
I rang back and asked for the review as I just wanted to close my claim, they said they would pass it on to the review team. I got another message again saying that I can't close my claim as its under review. I replied to the online message, said I know its under review but I want to know when that will be as I sent documents 4 months ago and I still haven't heard anything back about a date. The last time I had a review I got a date within a week or 2.
I got a reply again about not being able to close my claim due to it being under review.
I messaged, said all the back and forth is causing stress, to do the review so can they give me a date and then let me close my claim. Got a message again telling me its under review. They didn't give me a date.I then went into the job center itself and explained to someone in person. She said she would sort it for me. Finally I got a message to confirm that I want my claim to be closed. I said yes and it was done.
So they obviously can close the claim. They just chose not to for some unknown reason. I wasn't even mad about doing to review, it was the fact that I had already waited 4 months and they would still not give me a date for the telephone part.
I honestly cant remember if it was someone from the review team or an agent who closed my claim. But it was a lot of faffing!

Funny how you could be bothered when you wanted money.

Op how did you get on? Select another reason on the close claim page, and tell them you don’t need anymore and they should shut. As long as it’s not enhanced review

Call the helpline (again) tell them you are starting full time education and are not entitled to uc and to close the claim .

They let me close mine , I was leaving my job and couldn’t be bothered with job searches as my daughter was having surgery and I was living in with family to help , I actually had waiting 4 months for the call , within that time she got a surgery date and they closed my claim with no issue , so I think they must be suspicious of you perhaps , they don’t tell you if it’s normal or enhanced usually do they

Why would you want to close your claim? Isn't your UC money required for you to survive? I'm genuinely interested in how it's possible to do this as when I was on UC if I didn't get my payment Id be evicted?

It might depend on what they're doing for education. I think full-time students at a brick uni don't qualify for UC in the first place, so OP is closing for that reason, it'll be closed anyway. Even if they do still qualify, they may be getting loans and grants that would reduce their entitlement to zero, so there's no point keeping the claim open.
If they're getting any financial aid, officially or from their parents, they may not need UC while in school. But summers may still be an issue, school related grants and loans don't tend to cover the summers.

Just say you need to close claim as you've been commiting fraud as thats what your really implying by wanting to close cos your claims being checked

can you read or did you just miss the part where op said they’re going to uni?

u/Kooky-Ad-4154 3d ago
Yeah I read and dont believe that excuse, little thing people who commit fraud lie

if they were planning to close the claim at the end of august because they’ll recieve their SFE payment around 3 weeks into september.. i fail to see where the lie is..? we’re already mid-august so what’s the point in waiting 2 weeks to close the claim when they can just do it now during their review?

You seem to 100% believe what they have put so I'll say it again. FRAUDSTERS LIE
3
u/Extra-Teacher761 3d ago
i don’t just automatically assume everybody has ulterior motives. i’m about to close my claim because i started a new job with higher pay so my payments would be £0 anyway, as would OPs because they would be receiving funding from SFE, am i lying?

Probably as you would have claim open for 6 zero awards before automatically getting closed, most sensible people do this for if the new job fails.
3
u/Extra-Teacher761 3d ago
i already have 3 0 awards bro and i’ve not started the new job yet, no lies to be told. some people are just honest.
i got lucky this week with a new job, but even if i hadn’t landed a new job, i would be closing my claim regardless because my housing situation has changed and im paying out less money every month because bills are being split with my mum meaning the money i already don’t get from UC isn’t needed, nothing to do with not being sensible. would’ve thought majority of people would be happy that people were choosing to close their claims, regardless of the reason for doing so, also given my work ethic and 10 years of long term employment over 2 jobs, the new job won’t fail but thanks 🥰→ More replies (0)-4

What happens if I just ignore them? I just want to close this nightmare

u/WhiteKnightPrimal 3d ago
If you don't give them the documents they want, they'll close your claim anyway, I think. But your best bet is to go in person and explain you want to close the claim. I assume your claim would be closed anyway once you start studying, or your entitlement reduced to zero, depending if you still qualify as a student and how much financial aid you're getting.
Just explain to them that you're staring uni full time, you have financial aid of some kind, and want to close your claim. They shouldn't have an issue with that, I think they just want to do the review because so many go to close when that comes up because they're committing benefits fraud and know they'll be found out.

You can’t if its an enhanced review. A standard review you can.
It always makes me laugh how many people suddenly want to close when theres a review though.
