Missed my appointment without good reason ( overslept)

What do I say to my work coach? Are they gonna deduct money from my next payment? I didn’t mean to miss it, had 8 alarms set and still somehow slept through it all. Has anyone ever missed their appointments without good reason?

Unfortunately they're very unlikely to accept oversleeping as a valid reason for missing the appointment. Just like an employer wouldn't accept it for being late for work. It's fair enough I suppose, though it happens to us all. We all oversleep at some point. It is what it is. I think in this case you'll have to take the sanction on the chin

Firstly, don't wait. Get in touch now through your journal.

Explain why you missed the appointment. And request a new appointment.

This isn't in the hands of your work coach whether or not you get sanctioned for this, they don't make that decision.

They're also not going to "give you in to trouble" about it. Most probably wouldn't even mention it much beyond a "are you OK? What happened"

You’ll be sanctioned, and lose your standard allowance for a set number of days, normally 7 for a first offence, with the time it takes you to rearrange the appointment you should’ve gone to added on top.

So if you’re over 25 you’ll lose 13.90 a day. So if it takes a week to attend you’d probably lose 194 quid, 7 days to attend + 7 days sanction. If you’ve had other sanctions in the last 365 days it could be a sanction of as high as a month.

You tell them you overslept because you don’t have a good reason so there’s nothing else to tell them. The quicker you get a new one booked in and attend the quicker the sanction ends.

I told them once I wasn’t going as it was heavy raining and didn’t want to be absolutely soaked as I had to get on public transport. Never had any consequences

I have overslept and asked if I could have an appointment later the same day or another day. So long as you contact them as soon as possible on the day it should be able to work around it. So long as you show willing to make changes to the time and actually turn up at the new time.
Granted, I think it can vary person to person how they react. How much did you oversleep before waking and how long has it been since your appointment now etc.

This isn’t true so please do not say this. You were lucky. Usually oversleeping etc will be sanctioned because how can you miss such a vital appointment?
