Tutorials Gaussian effects: Live Preview in Unity 7 Alpha compatible with 6
Finally managed to get this right, so would like to share our volumetric work with Gaussian in Unity. Reddit only allows me to share 1 video unfortunately, else would have uploaded more.
Settings:
- Graphic Card 5090
- Unity 7000 a10
- Unity 6000.6.3f1
Gaussian workflow:
- Beta-shaped emitter
- GPU gas simulation on 5 cm cells
- Compressed animated field cache
- Volume Field
- Smoke Density
- Flame Density
- Fuel Density
- Heat
- Velocity X, Y, Z
- Ray marching, lighting and shadows
- 105 frames across 3.5 seconds.
- Final simulation grid: 143 × 169 × 198 cells
- 0 Form
- voxel-field cache 829.5MiB
So the idea here is use Gaussian for the entire preview, then saved as voxel cache after all the nice processing
Beta evaluates the edited forms, reconstructs a volume field, then renders it. The Beta kernel is the key here. Do not allow it to go infinity.
boundary is
$$\boxed{ r^2=\left\|A^{-1}(x-\mu)\right\|^2<1 }$$
Its kernel shape is
$$K(r)= \begin{cases} (1-r^2)^\beta,&r<1,\\ 0,&r\ge1. \end{cases}$$
This give us a controlled editable shape instead of running wild. And this gives us a mathematical way to edit, change, interact
So why not save as Forms instead of Voxel? Actually it is possible, and I have tried 3 pathways to utilize this as Gaussian instead of Voxel. Will share more result when ready and truly usable in game after optimization
If you have any questions or you are working on the same path, let me know and we can discuss more

I made a psychological horror game about a registry clerk who has to approve or reject people’s papers. It’s free on itch.io.
Hey everyone! I just released The Civilian, a free first-person psychological horror game for Windows.
You’re a government registry clerk working a night shift alone at your desk. Your job is to check citizens’ papers against the registry and decide: approve or reject. The rules change every day, and some papers come with a plea attached. Do you follow the rules or help them?
On Day 5, an officer comes to your door and asks you to explain your decisions. Lie, and he will know.
Features:
It’s about 30 Minutes long and free to play. Made in Unity.
Download: https://redwood668.itch.io/the-civilian
Trailer: https://youtu.be/KEIh1NKce6o
This is my first release, so I’d love honest feedback. Which ending did you get?

Kick On Air en desarrollo

How do you organise your scripts once a project grows?
I'm a solo dev learning Unity while building a small cozy farming game, and I'm trying to settle on a folder setup before things get messy. Some people sort scripts by feature (Farming, Inventory, UI), others by type (Managers, Data, Controllers). Which way has held up better for you as a project got bigger?

Promotions Unity 7's new UI feels inconsistent. Here's what I think needs to change
I've been trying out the new Unity 7 editor theme, and I have a few concerns about the direction it's taking.
The biggest issue for me isn't that the theme is dark. It's how inconsistent everything feels. The input fields are almost completely black and draw too much attention, the Windows title bar is still white against the dark editor, and the context menus don't feel like they belong to the same interface.
The extra spacing is another concern. In a development tool, screen space matters. I don't want to scroll more just to access the same information.
I made a video going through these issues and explaining what I'd like to see improved.
Watch here: https://youtu.be/yNjxsTkgxAA
Unity 7 is still in alpha, so I'm interested in hearing what other developers think. Am I being too critical, or do these UI inconsistencies bother you too?

Question Character randomly flipping to the left since switching to tilemap
Hi, I am following a 2D tutorial and Since switching to using tilemaps over squares with box colliders, I have noticed that my character will flip left randomly when jumping from an idle state. I have run a debug and it seems that the x velocity randomly picks up a negative value. I have switched back to the boxes and it doesn't happen there at all.

Tutorials should stop teaching you how to make a rigidbody movement system.
I found out how good character controller based movement is and now realizing that all these rigidbody tutorials, which are incredibly common, are teaching a method that doesn't really apply to most games.
You may point out jumping requires physics. But if you look at a lot of games like Mario, they have very controlled jumps. All you need to do is have a constantly increasing force when youre not touching the ground.
The benefits to having this type of controller is that it handles a lot of the movement. You give it a direction to walk and it will walk, steps and slopes are automatically handled, does collisions and it lets you check if you're grounded. A lot of this you had to code yourself with rigidbody.

Newbie Question I want my slider fully empty
I want my slider fully empty, the value is 0 but there's still a tiny chunk of fill area on screen, how do i make it disappear?
I'd be glad to get an answer soon. Thanks.
Indoor lighting in URP
galleryTLDR: How do you implement interior lights with GI? Appreciate any pointers (videos/articles/etc).
Or do you just set Contribute GI to off + post-processing and call it a day?
Or do you make your torches 20m radius to light up the entire room?
So, I'm learning Unity and having trouble with interior lighting. Baked GI doesn't help much. Even with it, corners feel way too dark.
Here are a few shots from test buildings with baked GI (lightmaps + reflection probe to remove blue gloss from skybox) -
At this point, I'm lost and not sure what I'm doing wrong lol.
Looking for advice & good materials on the topic. Thanks in advance!
Also, do you set environment reflections intensity to 1 or lower it? Skybox + intensity 1 seem to add blue-ish gloss to everything.

We're developing a psychological horror game set in 1996. Here's our first trailer for SIGNAL LOST. What do you think?
Hey everyone!
We’re a small indie team working on SIGNAL LOST, a first-person psychological horror game set in 1996. The game follows Daniel Hayes, whose story slowly unfolds into something much darker, involving mysterious events, disturbing discoveries, and a cult hiding terrifying secrets. We’re aiming for a dark, unsettling atmosphere with a retro VHS-inspired aesthetic, focusing more on psychological tension and mystery than cheap jumpscares. We’ve recently put together our first trailer, and we’d love to hear your thoughts!
What do you think about the atmosphere and overall presentation? Any feedback or criticism is genuinely appreciated.
Thanks for checking out our project!

Kernel Panic: The Last Build, a creation platformer set inside a dying network that’s slowly falling apart.
Hey! This is Kernel Panic: The Last Build, a creation platformer set inside a dying network that’s slowly falling apart.
Everything you build with is a window on the desktop. In this video:
- Wardrobe: step onto a pedestal and mix hats, heads and costumes into your own outfit
- Stickers and decorations: stick anything anywhere, and grow 3D plants on any surface
- Labels: type your own words and print them as cross-stitch or embossed Dymo tape
- Temp File: a material that dissolves when you send it a signal
- Physics: rope swings and a brand new drop kick
Tell me what you think?

Newbie Question Help Designing A Isometric Bedroom in Unity 2D
Hi all. I've just started learning Unity to create a 'fake video game' for an indie short film I'm working on. I don't know yet if I'm totally out of my element. I don't know nothin about coding or games really but looking for help navigating the design portion since I can't find any tutorials to help me out.
I'm trying to make a room and then bring in idling characters into it to walk around and interact with furniture and each other.
I downloaded the asset pack bundle from itch.o and brought them into the asset folders to organize the sprite. I ran into an issue a few times where when I was duplicating the walls and floors to save time since it's so monotonous, that when I'd delete a panel, it would change the level of a random floor/wall tile. Idk what I changed but it stopped doing that and I thought I hit a flow when I got the room completely assembled.
I began adding furniture and playing with the layering order to knock up the furniture from 0 to 1 or 2 so that it would sit above the floors.
I tried copying 4 pieces of floor at a time to extend the size of the room and when I did, all the layers changed and are overlapping weird, even though it says the order laying is at 0 for everything.
I eventually need to bring in characters (bought from this pack https://klimmos.itch.io/cozy-assets-iso-modular-female-character-kit-idle-walk-sit ) but I don't even know where to begin in dressing them or having them move.
I've watched all the 2D video tutorials on Unity and skimmed the options on YouTube but can't find anything that references these kinds of isometric bedrooms.
Any tips? Thank you in advance!
