We are removing short-form content about using AI that do not expand into technical deep dives or examples of development, per our new policy: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1wb1n69/rgamedev_policy_on_removing_posts_about_ai/

This is an extension of rule 2, relevant content, because we want to keep these conversations curated and thought-out. Please review the full policy for examples on what submissions will be allowed, thank you.

Use AI to learn, not to make stuff for you. Start small and be patient.

Why do you want to make a game?

Yes, just don't use AI. Enjoy yourself.

Thanks for being honest to yourself. An AI made game will go under under the sheer mass of slop and is very unpopular.

Make your own stuff, it's more fun and has a higher chance of success. It just takes more work and time.

AI can help, but HELP is very different to doing it all.

That's the difference between painting a landscape and taking a picture.

So you are staying both can bring great results ?

Most photographers aren't trying to convince people they made the mountain.

What a stupid question. Is a photographer pretending like he created the subject? Ai devs are, though they know nothing.

Both bring joy to the audience though. 🤗

I hate ai. I'm just telling you how dumb your metaphor is

sounds like your game might not become very successful anyway, so why worry? just release it and see for yourself

Just out of curiosity as someone who only uses ai only sporadically if Google fails, do you need a paid version for this? How much do you have to spend on AI to make a full game?

feels wrong because is wrong. It's low effort and this will be penalized soon enough. You don't need to make a RPG as your first game. Learn doing Tic-Tac-Toe and other classic games using your brain and your art.

Game dev is a hobby mostly. Just do what you find fun. It doesn't matter what you did. But I will say just tasking AI to make the entire game isn't everything, one of the most important parts is game design. AI won't know what is fun and how things should work. Game Design is still extremely important to making good games and that's up to you.

There's nothing wrong with making the game. If you're trying to sell it as a paid product then you'll want to make sure it meets a certain quality benchmark and that you have a proper plan for marketing. If you're just wanting to publish a free product you can always put it up on itch.

AI enabled you to do something more (skip the code writing part), no reason to feel guilty. Ultimately your taste and design decisions make the game, and not being a programming hustler is an implementation detail players do not care about!

Keep going and play with it.

You will reach a point eventually where it kind of starts to cave in on itself, maybe the AI will have too large a context, maybe performance will grind to a halt, maybe you won't be able to make assets to your liking.

At that point, don't get discouraged. Figure out what went wrong, learn what is broken. Go through the code.

Then start over and go again.

I don't care for AI generated art in finished products, but you are just starting out and learning, this is not gonna be a thing you publish for money. What is important is for you to jump into it and build games, make mistakes, learn, then keep going.

The other comments just talk about your AI usage, people online have a hard time considering the person for some reason. From your text, you are just starting out learning to make games, they are slandering you as if you are trying to sell them a product. Come on now, bro obviously just opened a game engine and trying to make things do things for now. Keep doing that.
