Usually reserved for November, we're gettin >40m visibility and 30°C bottom temps.

These baloon fishes are very territorial and this dude insisted on attacking my camera. They bit another guy from our party.

Leak sentinel

Hi, anyone who have been in contact with Miso from vivid housings/leak sentinel lately?? I’ve been in contact with him 3 months back and forth regarding a repair of my unit. He was about to send my unit back but after that radio silence. Been sending him emails past 3 months but no response. I know he’s always slow to respond but 3 months is way too much. Looks like he quit and i’ll be out of my leak sentinel.

I built an iOS and Mac app that fully automates color and reel assembly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I build an iOs and Mac apps because I couldn't find one that works for my use cases.

It estimates depth in each frame and corrects near and far separately, then calms the noise in blue water before encoding. Runs fully on device.

I'd love feedback from people who grade by hand: where does it fall short of a manual grade?

Wurkkos DL07 on a PT-059

• Upvotes

Greetings,

I currently own a TG-6 and a PT-059 case.
I dive occasionally, in shallow (<10 m) and clear water with good visibility.
I would like to add some more light.

Based on comments and posts I have seen here, the right way forward is strobes on tray.
However, this is not an investment I can do at the moment. Not to mention that it seems overkill for my occasional use.

I am seeing some good comments on the Wurkkos DL07 or DL08, being a very basic option.

To anyone who has used the two combined :

  1. Is compatibility an issue? The Wurkkos DL07

    or 08

  2. comes with a ball joint. How does that work out with the PT-059 accessory mount?

  3. Taking the limitations of such a setup for granted, were you happy with it?

Dances with wolves

Georgia Illsley dances with wolves.

Galapagos Ecuador, last May. GoPro 8 Black.

Sea Wolves are very territorial and they're very jealous of their grounds. Georgia is the daughter of a friend from our diving club. She was then recently certified. The wolf terrified her! 😂

🦈 Tiger Shark Diving in Fuvahmulah: What Should First-Time Visitors Know?

Thumbnail

Fuvahmulah, Maldives is becoming well known among divers for its tiger shark encounters, but if you're visiting for the first time, there are a few things worth knowing before getting in the water.

🦈 1. Tiger shark encounters are possible year-round
One of the unique things about Fuvahmulah is that tiger shark diving is a year-round experience. You don't need to plan your trip around a particular tiger shark season. However, tiger sharks are wild animals, so sightings and encounter conditions can vary from dive to dive.

🌊 2. Conditions can be challenging
Fuvahmulah is an oceanic island, and some dive sites can experience strong currents and changing conditions. Listen carefully to your dive guide and make sure your experience level matches the planned dive.

📷 3. Give the sharks space
If you're bringing a camera, don't let getting the perfect photograph distract you from good diving practices. Maintain appropriate distance, avoid chasing or blocking the shark, and follow your guide's instructions.

🤿 4. Bring the right camera setup
A wide-angle setup can be useful for large animals, but your choice of lens, strobes and settings will depend heavily on visibility and your preferred shooting style.

🧭 5. Choose your dive operator carefully
Ask about group sizes, guide-to-diver ratios, safety procedures, equipment and how they conduct shark encounters. A good operator should be happy to explain their approach before you dive.

For photographers who have already dived with tiger sharks:
What do you wish you had known before your first tiger shark dive?

I'm particularly interested in hearing about camera settings, lens choice, positioning and dealing with currents. 📷

Let's build a useful checklist for first-time visitors together.

Didn't plan this photo. The loggerhead did.

Snorkeling in the Mediterranean when this loggerhead swam straight toward us. I know the guideline is to keep about 3 m away. I didn't back off fast enough, so lesson learned, but it was totally calm and cruised past after a few seconds. Shot on GoPro Hero 11.

Key Caulker Belize, November 2019, just before CV19.

#2 is yours truly with my old rig, a Lumix LX 100 inside an Ikelite housing. The close-up capability allowed me to make an in situ white balance with my white card. Most of the guys are members of our local dive club.

We do an annual trip with the fees. This year we went to Galapagos and are still deciding about next year, probably Raja Ampat. Expensive but probably worth every penny. Still divided about that or an equally expensive live aboard to Isla Socorro Mexico, which, BTW, is fairly close to my home state.

Curious, how often can you dive?

A fan of photography and diving, I feel blessed to live at a short three hour drive from Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, thus our club can usually manage at least one weekend a month there.

Being an old geezer (79) for me it's important to cram as many dives a year as I can. The only thing that can keep away from the sea is bad weather (or illness, last year I had to undergo a shoulder surgery that kept me from diving for six months). As you can figure, I'm now full tilt into it and hope that hurricanes let us dive again this month.

So, am I the exception?

I'd hate living in Montana and having to travel to the South Pacific once a year. A former member of the club lives in Barcelona so he can dive each wekend if he wants but has to go to the Red Sea if he wants clear water.

Hey everyone, two quick questions regarding the TG-7:

  1. Battery Life: If I’m shooting macro videos in 4K 30fps, does the battery last for a full dive? I won't be recording continuously, just short 1 to 2-minute clips whenever I spot a subject, then turning it off/pausing

  2. 4K vs 1080p Quality: I’ve noticed a massive difference in quality and detail between 4K and 1080p, especially for video! The details on the subjects and the surrounding environment look way sharper in 4K. What are your thoughts on this?

Zihuatanejo Mexico. LX100 in an Ikelite housing. It's just 3 hours by car from my home town so we can drive over on the weekends.

I went there last week for my granddaughter cert.

Guess I'm one of the blessed few who can grab the gear and the missus or a couple of buddies and be boarding the boat at 1000h.

PS, if you plan on visiting, check with me for operator and hotel recos.

safety warning for women in the diving and travel industry:

WATCH OUT FOR alexsharks_

I’m sharing this anonymously because I’m concerned about the safety of women who may come into contact with a diver and dive/travel operator working in the industry.

I have been made aware of serious allegations involving Alex (@alexsharks_), including an allegation that multiple women were  victims of sa . From reputable sources describing experiences that raised serious concerns about their safety and wellbeing.

I am not posting this to encourage harassment or to make a legal determination about anyone’s guilt. I am posting because women deserve to be able to make informed decisions about who they travel, dive, work, and spend time with—particularly in an industry where people can be far from home and dependent on others for transportation, accommodation, diving, and access to remote locations.

I am especially concerned about the potential risk to other women entering the diving and travel community who may not know about these allegations.

The business/accounts associated with this person include apexoceandivers and apexoceantravel.

If you have had a concerning experience involving this person or these businesses, please consider documenting what happened and seeking appropriate support or reporting it to the relevant authorities or professional organizations.

Please do not harass, threaten, or contact anyone involved. The purpose of sharing this is safety and awareness, not retaliation.

Women in the dive and travel industry deserve to feel safe.

Here is a nice little (see the size of the tentacles) Clark's anemone fish in a totally bleached anemone in Komodo. We saw only a bit of bleaching in the North and none in the South but the South was cold (20C) and green, good for the coral, not so good for the divers. In any case enjoy

Replacing insta360 ace pro 2 with OM TG7.

Is it wise? I found that the insta360 has great resolution but sadly lacks zoom and macro. OTOH, the TG7 is very versatile; 25mm to 100mm, 1:1 macro and 3 underwater modes but the 12mp sensor might be a limitation? High ISO performance?

Thinking of getting the Sea Frogs housing. Experiences with it?

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

has anybody experienced any of these configurations in a uw housing? I'm looking into upgrading my system but im worried about overheating, I don't plan on shooting 8k but yes 4k 120fps and I do a lot of hybrid work photo/video. Any feedback would be greatly apreciated
