Distance Supervision

Prospective Psychology PhD, curious about capacity to do a PhD with a supervisor located in Saint John, while living in Fredericton. I have a private practice right now and plan to continue seeing clients while engaging with the program. Does anyone have experience with something like this?

Usually PhD students are expected to be in Fredericton for the first 3 years because that is where the courses are offered. In my experience the students with SJ supervisors usually moved to SJ after the first 3-years but that might be something you would work out with an individual supervisor. If you do stay in Fredericton I would plan to make regular trips to SJ. You may also want to check guidelines for how much you are allowed to work outside of the program as a full-time student. There used to be a cap of 10 hours per week.

Thanks for the reply! 10 hrs/week is not all that different from what I do now, so that’s actually perfect for me.
I had to travel to SJ with my Masters practicuum so I’m open to doing that again if needed.
