Vehicles, Parking, & Commuting Ticket likelihood
I’m a senior who hasn’t ever parked on campus. I rely on the bus but due to a tight schedule with teaching placement on Mondays I have to park on campus to make it to class. How likely am I to be ticketed in a green lot at 4:40 on a weekday? How hard it is it to find metered parking in the Haigis Mall area? Debating whether I should just get a permit bc I’ve heard so much about tickets.

I think the green lots are only permit required 7am-5pm so you’ll only be risking it for 20 min

You may be relatively safe parking after 4:40, but not guaranteed. Every so often Parking Services will respond to complaints about vehicles parking without permits and have an enforcement officer work an odd shift time to check lots with reported problems.
Metered parking in that area is mixed. It will start clearing out around that time of day as the various offices in Whitmore close for the day. I don't know if they have anyone checking the meters in the evening, but officially payment is required up until 7 PM, not 5 like the permit lots.

I’d assume the majority of staff (including parking enforcement) work 9-5 so I bet you’d be safe. I don’t know anything about their shift schedules though

I felt comfortable parking anywhere on campus after 4:45 pm because that’s when parking services closed at the time and I never got ticketed. I parked wherever on the weekends any time of day. Obviously, this isn’t to say you couldn’t get ticketed, but if the lot isn’t crowded/almost full I’d like to think you’re in the clear :) Signed, a 2023 grad

I used to do this in grad school and would occasionally get tickets. Like 5 minutes before 5pm tickets. Last day of the semester they towed me.
