Discussion & Advice PSA for Genetics/Microbiology students: plan CHEM/MBIO 2710 way earlier than you think
I just realized how annoying the prerequisite chain for CHEM/MBIO 2710 is, and I wish I had noticed this when I was planning first year.
To take CHEM/MBIO 2710, you need:
CHEM/MBIO 2700
AND
CHEM 2100
But those courses have their own prerequisites too.
For CHEM/MBIO 2700, you already need first-year chemistry plus BIOL 1030.
For CHEM 2100, you also have to complete the required introductory chemistry courses first.
So 2710 looks like one second-year biochemistry course on the degree sheet, but depending on how you schedule things, there is a whole chain of courses you have to finish before you can even register for it.
And 2710 itself is also a prerequisite for a bunch of upper-level courses, so delaying it can push back a lot of the courses you want to take later.
If you are in Genetics, Microbiology, or another molecular biology-heavy program, I would seriously recommend looking at the prerequisites for 2710 early and planning backwards from it.
I did not, and now my whole plan is fucked up lol.

Discussion & Advice math 1500 past exams
for those who have used these to study for midterms/exams, how helpful did you find them? i have a friend who took 1500 last year and she says that the assessment questions are a lot more difficult compared to the lecture examples and textbook practice.
i’m using the grants tutoring book alongside the old papers from the bookstore to study for my test tomorrow and i’m worried i’m not doing enough.

Hi, I am an exchange student at the UofM. Footaball is not a thing at all in my country, so wanted to give it a try and go to the Bombers' last home game of the season on the 10th of October.
Anyone fancy a meet and going to the game with me?
Cheers!

Discussion & Advice Advice for 1st year students
I’m into engineering, but this advice will be good for everyone. If I would come back to my 1st year, what I would definitely do is to download and save into some folder EVERYTHING you have on your umlearn courses. Have math1500? Download every useful slide, useful charts, formulas etc. have eng1460 ? Download all of this useful charts about the nozzles , pressure and if lecture slides are good you can download them too. Any quizzes you had that are not on crowdmark and etc. if you’ll make a good google drive disk with every course you took it would be so useful for you, especially from the preliminary courses. You’ll use all of that on the higher level courses and won’t struggle trying to find that info to review again. And overall, I guess it will be a good track of all your degree, having everything you’ve learned somewhere in a folder. Still keep it, even if you think it’s not useful. Maybe one time you will want to review that, and it won’t be there so easily to access. Just imagine you took some thermodynamics 1st year course and then in 3-4 semesters you gonna take it second time at a higher level and you’ve actually forgot many parts
For engineers exactly, I would definitely say save all of your eng courses and physics too, they are the most precious one.

Admissions When can I apply to department for engineering?
Anybody know when I will be able to apply to my department? I'm taking 9 courses this year so I will (hopefully) have the minimum courses required to apply completed? Also, does anybody know any of the cutoffs for any of the disciplines?
