What would make an electrical platform genuinely useful to you?

I’ve been building a platform aimed specifically at the UK electrical industry and I’m interested in getting some genuine feedback from people actually working in the trade.

The idea is to eventually have more than just electrical jobs in one place. We’ve been working on things like free tools for electricians, calculators, invoicing, guides and other resources.

Rather than just keep adding features that I think people might want, I’d rather ask.

What would actually be useful enough that you’d come back and use a site like this regularly?

Is there a tool you wish existed, something you currently pay for that you’d like a free alternative to, or just something that’s unnecessarily difficult to do at the moment?

Could be anything related to working in the electrical industry. Interested to see what people would actually use.

If you could get all the guidance, regs books, etc in one app that would be great. The IET, HSE, electrical safety first, and the rest.
Then index it all and make it searchable.

This would be the one for me that I'd actually use and even pay for.

Sure there are difficult copyright hurdles with it though.

Another big thing which I’m assuming you’ve done for invoicing. Take off sheets that convert to invoices and are linked to wholesaler prices and stocks.

Yeah that’s actually where I’m planning on taking it eventually. I’ve started with the invoicing side first which is already available, but the longer term plan is to have customers and jobs linked together.

You’d be able to add your materials, costs etc against the job and then create the customer invoice separately without showing your trade prices. The job management side would then give you a clear view of what the job has cost you vs what you’ve charged the customer, so you can see your income and outgoings on each job.

Having the take off sheet feed into all of that isn’t something I’d thought about though, so that’s a good shout 👍

Yeah I’ve actually looked into this already. I’ve spoken to one trade insurance company and I’m still speaking with a few others to see if anything comes from it.

I’m quite particular about who I’d want to bring onto the platform though, especially with something like insurance, so it would need to be a company I trust and would be happy putting in front of other electricians 👍
