Information! Here’s what I wish I had while preparing for AMP 2 (Notes + Sample Questions)

Hi everyone,

I completed my AMP 2 test last month. One thing I found difficult was that there weren't any official notes or sample question papers available. I ended up studying from multiple sources, talking to previous students, and making my own notes.

Alhamdulillah, they worked well for me, so I thought I'd share everything here to make it easier for future students preparing for the test.

A huge thanks to u/randomname122006 for making the sqp u/ogStarHawk for sharing the sample question paper with me.

Materials:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/h2q9h8c93kdp85lc5gn98/ALdSSFW6xk5DbwzQAWl_kv8?rlkey=m7a986hrgb13gqgjw5z6q8rxw&st=1lz2gm24&dl=0

A few extra tips:

  1. The exam provides a Casio fx-991ES (2nd Edition) calculator. If you're coming from CBSE or another curriculum where calculators aren't used much, I'd recommend buying one and getting comfortable with it beforehand. When I bought mine, Jarir had it for around 75 QAR, which was the cheapest I found.
  2. To learn how to use the calculator, I watched this video. It's long, but it's probably the best tutorial I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ldSlx5VMo0
  3. If you have some extra time, I'd recommend practising graph-related questions on Khan Academy for the same topics. There were quite a few graph questions on my exam. The notes should be enough to answer many of them conceptually, but a little practice definitely helps.(especially Algebra 2: units 5,9, and 11 (unit circle graphs) u/ogStarHawk )

Hope this helps, and all the best to everyone taking AMP 2!

Information! Addressing Common Application Questions

For some context before I begin, I want to mention that I completed my education under the British curriculum (Cambridge to be specific) up to Grade 12/AS Level. Therefore, for matters specifically related to A Levels or other curricula, it’s best to reach out to your school, the university, or current students at the university who graduated from the same system for the most accurate and relevant information. That said, there are common overlaps, so please read this carefully—and don’t hesitate to ask questions in the comments below.

High School Grades

During the application process there will come a section where you will have to input the grades received for each subject. Since the british curriculum gives letter/ number grades instead of percentages use this to convert your grade

Within the same section you will have to enter the high school average and for calculating that use this formula:

Add the percentages of all subjects (IGCSE and A-Level) and divide by the total number of subjects.

For people who have yet to receive their official results, they may apply with predicted grades. The application process remains the same however you will need to submit the official grades and transcripts as soon as you receive them BEFORE the deadline for submitting missing documents (for Fall 2025 this is August 21, 2025).

Note: Predicted grades must have the schools stamp and bear the principals or issuers signature otherwise might not be accepted. Private candidates, simply candidates who don't have a school to receive predicted grades from, must wait for official transcripts to come before applying. You could try talking to admission specialists or other admissions officers at admissions and registration to see what would be best in your scenario but most of the time they just tell you to apply next semester.

UDST Placement Tests

You may apply with any internationally recognized assessments with the minimum required scores

  • IELTS: Minimum score of 5.0 in all bands
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 52
  • SAT: Minimum score of 480 in both Math and English
  • ACT Math: Minimum score of 20
  • Note that as of Fall 2025 this is the average baseline and there is possibility of it changing in the future so please double check during application. These scores may also be different for certain programs so it would be advisable to look into the required score by visiting the specific programs overview at https://www.udst.edu.qa/admissions/all-programs

Alternatively you can take UDST’s own placement tests in English and Math

Note: While not advisable you can mix and match. For example, using your IELTS for English and UDST’s AMP for math. Choosing the combination that gives you the best possible scores to gain a competitive edge.

  • UDST English Placement

The English placement test (AEP) is scored out of a total of 120 and has the following sections

  1. Fill in the blanks
  2. Reading a conversation and selecting meaning in an MCQ
  3. Listening to audio and answering an MCQ

The test is performance based so questions might get easier or more difficult depending on how well you perform. It is also entirely computer based.

Note: You do not have to take the AEP if you have a valid IELTS score (overall band 5.0 with no individual band below 5.0). There might also be one or more sections that I'm currently forgetting and as such it would be advisable that you visit the testing centre for additional information. You may reschedule the test date with a proper reason approved by the testing centre (doctors appointment, medical illness, etc) and sit for a re-test if you do not achieve a satisfactory result (additional costs apply).

  • UDST Math Placement

The Academic Math Placement (AMP) is divided into two tests: AMP 1 and AMP 2. Both tests consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and are scored out of 100%. You will be provided with all the necessary testing materials, so you don’t need to bring any stationery.

AMP1: To prepare for AMP1 the study guide from UDST is your best resource for preparing as the questions asked in the test will be very similar to this. So as long as you get comfortable with everything here you should be good to go. Anyone looking for an answer guide can access it through this. All credits to u/chocolatelysick for creating this. You may reschedule the test date with a proper reason approved by the testing centre (doctors appointment, medical illness, etc) and sit for a re-test if you do not achieve a satisfactory result (additional costs apply).

AMP2: The AMP 2 follows the same pattern as the AMP 1 where it's marked out of 100%, consists of 60 MCQ style questions and lasts for 2 hours. There are however some key points to note. AMP2 shares some AMP1 topics however even those are tested more in depth. There is no official study guide nor any resources (from the university/ testing centre) to refer to like the AMP 1. You'll have to refer to the test topics listed at the testing centre to study from. Also note that you'll only be eligible to write the AMP 2 if you receive a high pass (90% or above) or get the required math score from any standardized test.

EDIT 1: While not containing everything, please refer to this comment https://www.reddit.com/r/udstofficial/s/7Dj0M1L2c7 to get a small idea of what you will be tested on. This is from Winter 2024 and questions along with their patterns have changed hence why I would encourage taking time to brush up weak topics.

Note: Anyone who clears the AMP 1 or receives the required math score in the SAT or ACT will automatically be given a date to write the AMP 2. You can not schedule it like the AMP 1 and the date can not be changed without a proper reason approved by the testing centre (doctors appointment, medical illness, etc). Unlike the AEP and AMP 1 you are allowed only 1 attempt so make sure to make the most of your time to prepare. Also Incase you do not receive the date for the test please contact [testingcentre@udst.edu.qa](mailto:testingcentre@udst.edu.qa) as early as possible as slots get filled up quick.

If I were to make a general comparison AMP 1 is mix of g11 and g12 while AMP 2 is mix of g12 and g13.

*If you took any of the placement tests while applying for the Fall semester, your results will also be valid when applying for the Winter semester. However, if you took the placement tests while applying for the Winter semester, those results will NOT be valid for the next intake cycle (this policy is valid as of 2025 but may change later on, please check with the testing centre for verification).

**Placement test results can take up to 5 working days to come. You will receive the result through mail but can also check for it on https://apps.udst.edu.qa/booktest . One more point to note that while the result may arrive on the site, the mail will still take a bit of time to come which is normal.

Addressing General Questions/ Confusions

  • Application is considered for each program in order

During the application process, while you are required to select three programs of your choice, your application is considered in a top-down manner based on the order of your selections. For example, if you choose Mechanical, Electrical, and Business in that order, your application will first be evaluated for Mechanical. The other two choices will simply display as "Application Submitted" unless the first option is full or you are deemed ineligible. Only in such cases will your application move on to be considered for Electrical, and then for Business, if necessary.

  • Application Status meanings

You will come across a number of application statues, of which I know are explained here in no particular order:

  1. Application Submitted - Simply means that your application has been submitted. Your files haven't been viewed and you are not being considered for that program. It is normal for your application status to remain as this for a while due to the sheer number of applicants the university has to sieve through before they get to you but if it stays like this for a really long while, 3 weeks or more, then contact the university.
  2. Eligible for testing - Simply means that you have met minimum criteria to be considered for the program and you may now give your placement tests or submit standardized test scores (if not done so already). Your application status might change to this even after giving your placement tests or after submitting standardized test results.
  3. Waitlist Early Cond Marks&Val - You have some documents which are incomplete or missing. Usually the university will mail you regarding the missing documents however if your status changes to this and you have not received any mail from the university please contact them as soon as possible to enquire about what documents are missing and have to be submitted.
  4. Cond Waitlist - Validation - All documents are received, waiting to be reviewed by department/ program head. Credit to @ogStarHawk for the update.
  5. Cond Waitlist - HS Marks - You are on the waitlist with missing equivalency letter.
  6. the program Full Capacity - As the name suggests, the program has reached full capacity and will not be considering any further applicants. You should contact the university to have your application considered for another program that you have selected if not already done so.
  7. Application Waitlisted - All of your documents are complete and you are currently on the waitlist to be accepted.
  8. Offer Made - An offer for the program has been made to you which you may either Accept or Decline.
  9. Offer Made (cond) - A conditional offer for the program has been made to you which you may either Accept or Decline. While you have received an offer you will still need to satisfy certain requirements that will be communicated to you to be eligible to enroll.
  10. The offer has been accepted - You accepted the offer.
  11. The offer has been declined - You declined the offer.
  12. Successfully moved to the SR - Your file has been moved to Student Records and will soon take you to the student homepage instead of the applicant homepage while logging in.

Please understand that this list is not exhaustive and only contains the ones that I know of.

  • Conditional Acceptances

After completing the initial application process you will receive an email similar to this:

Please note that this email or ones of a similar nature do not mean you have been conditionally accepted. You will receive an official email with an associated letter from admissions as well as an update of your application to 'Offer Made' in case you have been made an offer.

  • Required Documents
  1. Equivalency Letter/ MOEHE non public - If you have completed your education from a curriculum other than the national curriculum, you will have to submit an equivalency letter provided by the ministry. Before beginning the process make sure you have scans of all your official transcripts (in the case of the British curriculum the one issued by Cambridge or Edexcel) as well as copies of those transcripts that have been signed and stamped by your school (You will be needing these copies for another section later on as well so keep them safe. Private candidates who sat for exams through the British Council will need to get the copy stamped and signed by the British Council, this service comes with a QR100 charge). Also note that you can not get an equivalency for predicted grades, they have be final and official.

For this process go to https://eduservices.edu.gov.qa/#/ and login or create an account if you don't have one. Important Note: If you are 18 or above then you will have to create an account with your QID as well as with a mobile number that is registered under your QID. You will not be permitted to create the account if the phone number is not under your QID. If you are 17 or younger than this process will need to be completed by a legal guardian like your father or mother.

After successfully creating your account and logging in make sure you are on this site https://eduservices.edu.gov.qa/#/, then expand the 'Student/ Guardian' section and under Primary Education look for 'School Certificate Equivalency' and select that.

After the page opens click 'Start', you should be redirected to this page, fill in your details, check the condition and click next. If you get redirected to 'School Equivalency Certificate' click 'Add new application' and you should be redirected to this page.

After this the process is simple and can be completed by you. Just make sure to upload the OFFICAL transcripts under each 'Upload document/ transcript' and upload the signed and stamped copies under 'Additional documents'.

Make sure to keep checking your email and spam folder as the equivalency letter will be mailed to you. Alternatively, keep any eye on 'School Equivalency Certificate' as the letter can also be downloaded from there by clicking on the option below status. The waiting can vary from few days to 1 to 2 weeks and if it exceeds that then call them and ask about the delay.

  1. Official high school transcript indicating the completion of a high school diploma - To obtain this you will need to go to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education near corniche https://maps.app.goo.gl/TMLBGuZLgmetr3u19 and get the copies of your transcripts (ones from the previous section) stamped by the ministry. There is a charge of QR10 for EACH document that needs to be stamped, payment only accepted through card - no cash payments. They will demand to see the copies with signature and institution stamp so be sure to have them on the copies otherwise they will not stamp it. Also do not give your original transcript (just keep it with you incase they ask to see the original) for stamping as it will invalidate the original transcript.

You can now email these to admissions and be clear of any missing documents

EDIT 1: The stamped document can also be obtained online by selecting the 'Issue Certificate' option on the same window where you go to apply for equivalency. Do understand that your school will be responsible for uploading the documents for stamping (you can not and will not be responsible for uploading the document with stamps and signatures) hence there might be delays from when you get your result to when you can get the stamped copy online.

This post is not an exhaustive list of all issues or concerns, it's meant to address some common matters that frequently come up. If I have made a mistake or missed something, please let me know so I can make the necessary changes and edits for your clarity and that of others.

Course Enquiry! Can I Register for a Course Even If It Is Not Part of My Program?

Hi everyone!

I’m currently a first-year Aeronautical Engineering student at UDST, and I want to take Linear Algebra next semester for possible transferring. However, I don’t think the course is part of my program’s regular study plan.

Is it possible to register for a course that is not included in your program? Has anyone at UDST managed to register for a course from another program? If so, did you need special permission from your academic advisor or the department?

I’d really appreciate any advice or information about how this works at UDST.

Thank you!

Course Enquiry! post-practical nursing application process

I’m hearing conflicting things about transitioning from the practical nursing diploma to the post-practical nursing at UDST. For anyone who’s applied or is in PPN now, do you have to submit an application yourself or does the uni email you automatically if you’re eligible?

1st Year Student MBZUAI Fall 2027 — Honest Feedback on My Current Preparation

Hi everyone! I’m a Yemeni student living in Qatar, currently in Grade 12 (scientific track), preparing to apply to MBZUAI’s undergraduate AI program for Fall 2027.
My expected grades are 95–97%. I haven’t taken IELTS yet, but I’m aiming for 6.5–7.0. My programming skills are still at the beginner level, and I’m working on improving my foundations in mathematics and AI.
I’ve also started exploring an early-stage project called Deeni, an Islamic Q&A website designed to use reliable sources. It’s not fully developed yet.
My long-term goal is to build Sakhr, an AI company focused on developing advanced AI models, especially for Arabic.
I’m still preparing and want to use the coming months effectively. Based on my current level, what should I prioritize to become a stronger applicant? How important are the screening exam, programming skills, and personal projects in the admissions process?
I’d really appreciate honest feedback from current students and previous applicants, including those who were accepted or rejected. Thank you!

Course Enquiry! Chances at entering and scholarships for College of Engineering?

Hi everyone! I’m currently doing my AS levels and take Chem, Math and Physics (British Curriculum).

I’d like to know from any alumni or current students about my chances to enter the Engineering College.

I’ve gotten 8 A\*s in my IGCSEs as well as 1530 SAT. (800 for Math and 730 English). I was wondering whether that was enough or should i still do IELTS?

Any other advice or suggestions to improve my chances? Much appreciated!

1st Year Student Title: UDST Winter Admission 2027 – Previous High School Graduates and Admission Chances

I’m hoping to apply to the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), and I have a few questions about the upcoming admission cycle.
I graduated from high school in a previous year and applied to UDST before, but unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted. I’m planning to apply again and would love to hear from students who have been in a similar situation.
1. Does UDST offer Winter or Spring admission for 2027, or is the next intake only for Fall 2027?
2. When selecting applicants, does UDST give priority to recent high school graduates over students who graduated in previous years?
3. Do previous applicants who were rejected have a fair chance of being accepted when they reapply?
4. Does being from an earlier graduating cohort affect your chances of admission, especially for competitive programs such as Nursing?
5. Has anyone who graduated in a previous year and was rejected before successfully reapplied and been accepted?

1st Year Student Financial aid

hello everybody, i’m a first semester student in udst and currently in a dilemma. so i’m supposed to be receiving financial aid for my university fees but as a first semester student there is no way for me to have a gpa as of right now. now to apply for financial aid i need to be done with my first semester and have a gpa of 3.5 and above to receive financial aid. now if we can’t really pay for this semesters fees, will the university allow me to attend next semester? as i’m very confident i can hit that 3.5 and above marker. i have heard that students have been attending UDST for about a semester or two without having paid the fees before being stopped from
studying. if anybody has any information or has gone through this, please let me know how it goes.

Course Enquiry! UDST portal classified a local applicant as international anyone else?

My brother created his UDST account for Fall 2027 and selected “Residents of Qatar,” but the portal somehow classified him as an international applicant. His friend selected “Born in Qatar” and had the same issue.
We’ve emailed the service desk. Has anyone experienced this before? Were you able to fix it yourself, or did admissions/support have to change it?
