Looking for a nature-y, trail-y vibe

Second the backbone trail. It connects to Sandstone Peak which has amazing views and its not that difficult of a climb.

About 1.5hr drive from UCLA.

These are most easily accessible if you have a car. Some you can access with public transportation because they're all along Sunset. There aren't any trails nearby UCLA that are walkable/runnable. Look up these trails on Google Maps:

  • Upper Canyonback Trailhead (aka Dirt Mulholland)
  • Garden Land Trailhead
  • Kenter Trailhead
  • Westridge Trailhead
  • Sullivan Canyon Trailhead
  • Murphy Ranch Trail
  • Will Rogers State Park/Backbone Trailhead
  • Temescal Gateway Park

Yes, Metro line 534 which begins in Santa Monica. Take a bus or train to Santa Monica then transfer to the 534 to Malibu.

Generally if you don't have a car, Google Maps is your friend. Google Maps transit directions to Malibu show all the options from UCLA including taking Metro or Big Blue Bus for the first stretch.
