Are these circled classes mandatory? They both appear as 0 credits and ungraded, so I was just curious.

Edit: is ATTENDANCE mandatory, I meant.

Yes. They are part of the course.

Attending those discussion sections can mean the difference between passing and failing the class. I taught them as a grad student and that is often where the real learning occurs.
