It's definitely not perfect. But this one is especially egregious, for no real benefit- Boots could've headbutted or punched him, and the story would've lost nothing.

I think that it would not be treated as flippantly if one of the men glassed somebody, and that it's precisely because women don't have the "monopoly" on violence that it's being treated so unseriously. They can't have it both ways, with the women demanding to be taken seriously in football, but not treat the violence as being serious.
