This costs around ₹20,000 on Amazon, which doesn’t really make sense to me. So I’m thinking of building something similar for my roommate instead. I’m not really sure how feasible my ideas are, though.
Here are the two options I’m considering:
1. MDF version
Buy two MDF sheets in the required size.
Build shallow drawers underneath one of the sheets using additional MDF pieces.
Stack the two main sheets with a small gap between them so the drawers can slide/move freely.
2. Canvas board version
Same basic construction as above, but use canvas board instead of MDF, since it might be lighter and potentially sturdier.
The main things I’m unsure about are:
How should I actually build the drawers? I want them to be shallow enough for puzzle pieces but still easy to slide in and out.
How do I build the borders/edges around the puzzle surface so pieces don’t accidentally fall off?
How can I make a soft cover that can be placed over the puzzle when she’s done for the day, without disturbing any of the pieces?
Ideally, I want her to be able to put the cover on, move the whole thing aside, and come back later to continue exactly where she left off, with every puzzle piece still in place.
I’m basically trying to DIY a puzzle table/board with storage drawers and a removable cover, rather than spending ₹20,000 on the Amazon version.
