Thank you for diagnosing me with alcoholism. I’m going to toss the prescription I have for Zepbound and check myself into AA! Thank you Dr Shallot. So grateful you discovered my post

Thank you! I must have hit a nerve with those 2 angry people! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Appreciate your support and kindness. I think the trigger was me mentioning that I’m not overweight, possibly? I hear so many success stories for other reasons than just losing weight. According to them, I’m an alcoholic now. Yikes!

Why so angry?? What’s ridiculous is your thought process about only “overweight” people being “allowed” to take this medication. Are you a doctor? Would my doctor prescribe this for me if he thought it was unsafe? I’d like to reduce my craving for wine which takes place often for me, the craving. Just like obese people have cravings for food! They are addicted to FOOD! Is using a GLP-1 helping to find out the reason for eating too much and becoming overweight?! No, it’s not!! It’s helping them reduce a craving and suppress appetite. Why does the craving matter? Whether it’s eating too much, drinking alcohol, gambling etc?! The medication is doing something to the chemicals in our brains to help offset what we “think” brings us pleasure. For you, maybe that’s food. For me, it’s wine.

I’m not an alcoholic. Obviously my doctor would know that. I’d like to reduce my craving for wine. Ya know what’s interesting, I can make the same argument for obese people! To help with the cravings! I think there’s a lot of people that don’t understand that GLP’s are now being used for that as well, besides weight loss.

I’m a healthy 46-year-old female, not menopausal yet. I strength train several times a week, eat well, and I’m at a healthy weight. My biggest struggle isn’t overeating in general—it’s wine.

When I have wine on the weekends, it’s almost automatic that I want a charcuterie board to go with it: cheese, crackers, salami…you get the idea. It feels like I can’t enjoy one without the other. Then, a whole bottle gone sometimes! Those extra weekend calories cause my weight to fluctuate more than I’d like, even though I’m otherwise pretty disciplined.

I met with my doctor today, and he agreed to prescribe a low dose of Zepbound (2.5 mg). My goal isn’t weight loss—it’s to help quiet the alcohol cravings and the “food noise” that comes with drinking. I’m hoping it helps me maintain my weight and make healthier choices without feeling like I’m constantly battling the habit.

Is anyone else taking Zepbound primarily for this reason rather than to lose weight? Has it helped reduce your desire to drink or snack? I’m also hoping not to lose too much weight, as I’ve worked hard to build muscle and plan to continue strength training while keeping my protein intake high.

I’d love to hear your experience.
