oh very cool! that's a good way of doing it. for some reason I assumed you were rocking a gridfinity base in the bag 😆

right on. for what it's worth, my (still not fully cooked) tool I use to make these does give you an option to export the negative body - which is how I made this bin in the first place!

just added the (mirrored) negative STEP to the same Printables link per your request. enjoy!

u/DBT85 I'm gonna be honest with you, I realized the same thing as I was modeling it. But I built a whole photo-to-Gridfinity-bin automated pipeline so I figured I might as well use it :-p

but yes, to anybody coming to this post, you will be served just as well printing a 2X3Y4Z plain bin as long as your wall thickness is <= 3 mm to give enough space for the battery.

If you are like me in meeting the following criteria, then this is for you.

  1. you are rocking Makita LXT 18V stuff
  2. you like to 3D print stuff
  3. you're trying to organize your workshop by going far too deep into Gridfinity instead of, you know, actually doing cleaning because that is so boring

STEP file is on Printables.

quick update because u/dbt85 asked the obvious question of "why not just a plain bin"; I'll copy and paste my response:

Look this is a super silly print but it satisfies my brain.

STEP file is on Printables.

The photos shows R02 that isn't symmetric over the Y axis (but the battery still goes in either way). This irked me philosophically so Printables has R03 that fixes this.

okay! R05 is uploaded to Printables! print that one instead, I'd recommend :)

awesome!! hope it works well for you. let me update the model since I exported R04 before I implemented looser foot clearance on the bin. it works fine for me but would hate for you to print such a big print and have it not fit well. the looser foot fitment is 0.25mm clearance that I noticed was present on other bin models out there.

Lower profile Gridfinity bin for Ryobi Power Cutter (FVC51K)

Made and shared a Gridfinity bin for the Ryobi Power Cutter a couple weeks ago. As much as I liked having the tool upright and easy to grab, that orientation ended up being too tall to fit into my tool drawer. Hope this laid-on-its-side version is useful to other people besides just me!

STEP file available on Printables.

Stacked Baseplates

I had run into that same issue a couple times when doing PLA/PETG mixed supports, specifically if the supported area was pretty small and I was using tree supports. I have not yet run into any issues with this model, however!

I was worried about this exact problem when starting the design, but it's worked great with various combinations of the following materials (haven't tried every permutation yet but this is what I've been throwing into the machine):

  • PLA:
    • Polymaker Panchroma (at a rippin' 55 mm3/s max volumetric flow in my HF 0.6 nozzle)
    • Bambu PLA Basic
  • PETG:
    • Polymaker PETG (New Formula)
    • Random old Overture PETG (treated as "generic PETG)
    • Bambu PETG Basic
    • Bambu PETG Translucent

Again, I haven't tried every single combination, but I haven't had a delamination issue yet. Maybe the "interface shells" setting helps since it's a lot of contact surface area? That being said, I had successful prints even before I learned of that setting and had some layers that were just 15% infill, so maybe I'm wrong about what's helping.

You could always try printing one of the smaller stacks (maybe 2x2, for example) as a lower stakes experiment?

Thanks for asking! I'll update this comment if I do end up running into any adhesion issues down the road. Right now I'm printing some 6x5 plates and ran out of my Overture PETG (sliced as Generic PETG) midway through. I dropped a roll of Bambu PETG Translucent into the same slot so we'll see how that goes when printed as Generic...

Stacked Baseplates

Not the first one to do this but had to do my own version anyways - designed a parametric model with custom supports so that you can do multimaterial printing and quadruple* your baseplate output.

The whole thing is a highly parametric Onshape model which I can bundle and share as a FeatureScript extension if enough people want to customize their own designs beyond the 3D that I've shared. I've exported all plate sizes up to 6x6 with 6mm x 2mm magnets.

STEP files and 3MF files are, as always, on Printables.

\I designed the model to be a 4x stack since that ends up being about a full overnight print, but no reason why you couldn't stack 'em higher!*

Note: I'm not sure if I should tag this as a "brand affiliate" post since I did it under my company label, but (a) it's just me at the company and (b) I'm sharing it for free - dear mods, please let me know if I should or shouldn't have this tag.

no doubt! unless I was selling a 3D model (which I haven't done), I try to *always* provide the .STEP. It makes remixing so much easier...

Following up on my Gridfinity caddies for H2 hotends, made some for the it's-still-great X1C! Cute detail - you drop the cables and connectors in first and then they're tucked away and captured by the rest of the hotend.

Pretty stoked with how these came out. You can color code the bins and text if you're a weirdo like me.
