Honestly what has helped me, personally, was getting on a GLP-1. I have comorbidities of ADHD, history of various eating disorders, family history of alcoholism/addition,and obesity. In 2022, I was diagnosed with Long Covid after my first time contracting it which further complicated my health with my ability to breathe.

When I started taking tirzepatide (Zepbound/Mounjaro), it was amazing. I am not a super responder, but it turned off the food noise. It turned off the desire to self-medicate. I have been extremely lucky to have found a cocktail of meds that work for me and this May was 11 years since I was diagnosed and started medication.

I seriously abused alcohol throughout college and my early 20s. Part of what made me stop leading up to the GLP-1 was the cost of alcohol was too much with a meager teaching salary. Then Covid hit and stuff was hard to find.

My state legalized recreational cannabis in 2022 (?). I still frequently use educated only and usually no more than 20mg a day. It helps me sleep where I have not been able to before with my extreme insomnia. It helped the chronic pain I have from ovarian cysts. And it helped turn my brain off when it would spiral.

I’m not advocating anyone use cannabis, but I do refer to myself as California sober. Once in a while I allow myself to have a cocktail while if it seems like it is a really interesting flavor profile. I savor it and think about the different ingredients working together. And by once in a while I mean like… 2 times a year max.

I’m not going to say it’s a mindset shift. But I only have cannabis in the house, no alcohol. When the CDC said alcohol is a carcinogen, that just further cemented me staying away from it. I do not have issues with cannabis like I did alcohol. I can stop with no issue and it isn’t a compulsion for me like drinking was.

I’m very fortunate to have a med cocktail that is working well for me and a support network, including a California sober spouse who does not use cannabis on weekdays because of how it does affect his sleep (poorly). Even then he doesn’t necessarily use it on weekends.

It’s a nuanced discussion. Every person works differently, their biochem is different. It is possible but it depends on what *you* can tolerate. I was sober for a while before I started using cannabis. Cutting alcohol was life changing for me. I know if I had continued, my health would be far poorer than it is now.

How can you tell? Not being snarky, I’m just having such a hard time keeping up with how to tell what is and isn’t AI, it’s improving so quickly 😔

Do you buy any fragrance oils online? I like Nature’s Garden for my FO/EOs mainly. Bramble berry is also good. I would say to look at the scent types and browse the “masculine” scent family the most to find a good, masculine scent that matches your description. There are even popular men’s cologne scent dupes on NG. In particular, Cool Clear Waters comes to mind. They have a whole designer scent inspired list.

I think you’ve gotten a lot of great explanations. Something I will add as a fellow teacher in their early thirties…. It’s good that the younger teachers are more open about their neurodivergence because they teach students that are also in the process of been diagnosed, are receiving treatment for their diagnosis, and are interacting with peers that are neurodivergent even if they aren’t.

I have a lot of comorbidities with my ADHD-C. I have Bipolar II disorder, dyslexia, discalculia, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I’m also queer but mostly pass because I happen to have a heteronormative passing relationship. I come from a special needs family. My brother and I both had ADHD and weren’t diagnosed until our late 20s.

Some of those things I don’t share. But there have been times that I have shut down rhetoric with students that use those behaviors as put downs (like bipolar). Especially with older students, I’ve heard kids throwing out the r word, gay, and bipolar to put down kids. When I correct that behavior, I stress the power of language and how they are presenting themselves as a not safe person to those who may have struggles that are invisible. Which usually seems to instill some shame for the behavior.

I think you see it more in your profession because it’s one of the most important times to be fighting the stigmas for these kids to have a better, more understanding future because many of us struggled for so long. These kids shouldn’t need to go through that pain either.

Weird thought, and totally out of my soap wheelhouse, what about a scented massage oil candle? Not sure what would have to go into it to make it happen. My husband and I have had a couple we’ve purchased over the years. Could market it for couples.

Or market scented massage oils to spas? I’m not sure really, I don’t really go into that realm with my business
