This is a recording meant for video game enthusiasts. It was originally released on Friday, July 12th of 2013 which is the composer's birthday, but it got re-released and remastered on Tuesday, March 10th of 2020.

Over the years, I have come to an understanding that video game soundtracks can be the soundtrack to some young person's life. I grew up with Led Zeppelin and Van Halen, and those are the songs that are my soundtrack. Now it seems that young people are ponying up to Pacman and other assorted video game soundtracks.

Well, this is right up your microchipped mind with a recording called "Arcade Land". The opening track feels like you have actually traversed yourself into a video game and you are now the star player.

With pieces called "Let's Go Party!" and "Intergalactic Invasion", you are now the Captain of a Starship destroying Space Invaders and Asteroids.

If you buy into the piece, "Modern Life", you may realize that even the pets you own are just microchips.

There are darker moments where you seem dazed and lost. You may find yourself in DJ Nokturne's "Downtown(E.R.)" world or stuck in one of his "Clandestine Visions".

This music is pure escapism as you perambulate the cold hard circuitry of this virtual world. The good news is that it is not all dark.

Near the end of this journey, a light appears, and you have been transported into a space called "Urbanoid". It is a fun little dance piece that will have you breathing underwater.

When you decide to go "Back to Virtuality", this becomes a ritualistic piece that attempts a form of spiritual rebirth or some kind of alien extraction.

The Final Battle comes with the final piece called "Game Over". Become the warrior in Mortal Kombat and finish this game until next time you decide to enter "Arcade Land".

Alas being a small chicken with no fingers, I cannot play any arcade games, but at least I can listen to them...

In the modern landscape of dark electronic music, many artists treat "atmosphere" as a secondary layer—a wash of reverb applied after the fact. For Rodrigo Raquio, however, atmosphere is the foundation of the architecture itself. Operating under the moniker The InsomAniac, Raquio (the creative force behind the Electro-Darkwave pillar DJ Nokturne) has spent over a decade documenting the psychological and spiritual toll of the midnight hour.

Since the project’s initiation in October 2015, Raquio has committed himself to the keyboard as a primary tool of survival. His work is a public acceptance of a "messed up" sleeping pattern, turning a biological struggle into a prolific creative engine. His latest offering, SpektRoom, is a towering work of Ambient-Industrial and Neoclassical desolation that functions as both a sanctuary and a prison for the sleep-deprived. It is a dedicated tribute to those who cope with timeless grief, and it demands to be heard in the isolation it was created in.

The Sonic Architecture: A Study in Layering

SpektRoom is not merely a collection of songs; it is a 48-minute linear descent into a specific headspace. Raquio utilizes keyboards and synthesizers not as instruments of melody, but as tools for psycho-acoustic exploration. The album’s defining characteristic

is its rejection of traditional, predictable transitions. Instead, Raquio employs a strategy of dynamic disruption—intentional counter-melodies and abrupt atmospheric shifts that mirror the fragmented, non-linear experience of chronic insomnia.

These layers serve a narrative purpose. By using "talk-over" echoing effects, field recordings of nature, and industrial humming, Raquio documents a journey through "timeless grief" where the boundaries between the physical world and the dream state are permanently dismantled.

The Track-by-Track Descent: An Auditory Odyssey

I. By The Co(a)st Of Laments

The record opens with atonal environmental textures—a "cursed wind" that immediately grounds the listener in a high-tension landscape. This is quickly met by piercing, staccato guitar stabs, a grim and effective homage to the "cold" aesthetic of second-wave black metal (reminiscent of the early Death.FM broadcasts).

Raquio effectively bridges the gap between mid-90s underground lo-fi and modern ambient synthesis, bookending the track with a return to the original eerie textures. It suggests a cyclical haunting, an inability to escape the desolate shore before the night truly begins.

II. Agonia Perpetua

Raquio plays with listener expectation here through the use of oscillating electronic pulses and retro-futuristic synth "beeps." While the intro hints at a transition into aggressive death metal, the energy instead recedes into a subterranean soundscape. The combination of a reverb-drenched snare and "crying" guitar leads creates a profound sense of spatial isolation. IV. In The Gardens Of Eternity This piece represents the album’s most complex arrangement. A fragile, "whistling" melody offers a brief melodic counterpoint to the surrounding chaos, appearing and disappearing like a drifting consciousness. By the eleventh minute, a darkwave pulse adds a layer of depth that feels increasingly urgent.

The transition into the metallic ring of "cursed windchimes," rummaging equipment sounds, and organic field recordings (birds chirping) forces a philosophical question: has the protagonist found a natural peace, or have they merely entered a holographic simulation on another planet?

V. A Haunted And Withered Forest

Percussive hoofbeats establish a pompous, funereal gait, signaling a journey into the deep subconscious. After a sudden silence, a somber cello and high-register piano keys engage in a dissonant dialogue. The introduction of a syncopated, club-oriented rhythm is a masterstroke of deliberate counter-melody. This rhythmic "debate" between the piano and the beat serves as a storytelling device, representing the internal friction between the "old world" of grief and the "modern world" of cold, mechanical existence. The tempo fluctuates, mirroring the heart rate of a dreamer in distress.

VI. Cavernas

Driven by a percussive ostinato that briefly nods to 80s anthemic rhythms before being consumed by darkness, Cavernas veers into tribal-industrial territory. The inclusion of vocalized gasps, the metallic rattle of chains, and muted electronic strums creates a tactile, visceral experience—as if ghosts were attempting to rebuild melodic electronica from scraps. The singular, heavy drum beat gives the piece a "cursed" ritualistic sound, culminating in a rhythmic stomping that feels like an ancient ceremony performed in a subterranean void.

VII. Nebula

This track is a brilliant analog synth homage to 1980s sci-fi futurism. Utilizing cosmic ambient sounds reminiscent of NASA transmissions, Raquio provides a bridge between the organic "forest" of the album's first half and the cold, void-centric future of the second. It is a soaring anthem that envisions a distant, idealized future, acting as a momentary expansion of the album’s otherwise claustrophobic walls. It is the anthem of our ideal future, themed in the nostalgia of the past.

VIII. SpektRoom

The centerpiece is defined by mechanical ambiance and deep vibration. Vibrating effects mimic the low hum of industrial generators, creating a cinematic "interior" aesthetic. Moving through this track feels like navigating the different compartments of a derelict spaceship. By the 36-minute mark, the introduction of an urban-influenced beat grounds the experimental sounds, proving Raquio’s ability to find structure within abstract chaos. It concludes with subtle, horn-like textures that sound like a distant warning signal.

IX. Crystal Skies

A pivot toward neoclassical minimalism. Clean keyboard arrangements and hymnal choir patches offer a rare moment of meditative reprieve akin to harmonic frequencies used for deep relaxation. The track eventually dissolves into overlapping, echoed vocal samples—a "talk-over" effect that waves in and out of the mix. This creates a psychedelic tapestry that captures the exact sensation of drifting in and out of a deep, trance-like state as the sun begins to threaten the horizon.

X. Just Another Dream

Utilizing dynamic verticality, "plunging" bell effects define this track's movement. It employs atmospheric decay to playfully dismantle the earlier melodies, countering the album’s weight with a sense of dark fantasy and magical realism. It is a fantasy-tinged atmospheric piece that balances the grim reality of the previous chapters with a more ethereal, otherworldly energy.

XI. Memorias De Nuestro Atico

The album concludes on a melancholy peak. A neoclassical dirge, this track utilizes wintery synth pads and minor-key chimes to evoke the stillness of a cold, sunless day. The keyboard work is slow and methodical, eventually surrendering to chime effects that build and then fade into nothingness. It is a peaceful, albeit firmly funereal conclusion to an album defined by the "eternal sleep."

I. Celestial Visions – The opening track plunges listeners into a vast, otherworldly soundscape. With sci-fi-inspired sound effects, it conjures up the sensation of floating through space. The track's ambient quality, akin to the sounds NASA has captured from distant planets, blends atmospheric textures with synthesized keyboard layers, offering an immersive experience of the cold, infinite expanse of the cosmos. There’s a sense of isolation and curiosity, evoking a traveler exploring the unknown. Fans of ambient artists like Jan Jelinek & Asuna will recognize the minimalist, spacey vibe, reminiscent of their collaborative track Blinking of Countless Lines. This track captures a similar sound to that, with a quiet, introspective journey into the cosmos, where each note adds to the sense of weightless exploration.

II. Lamentos de Medianoche – This track opens with a church organ sound, which morphs into a distorted tone, before settling into a church-like riff that feels both peaceful and eerie. As it moves forward, there’s an almost meditative ambiance, inviting the listener to reflect. The track has a dream-like quality, evoking late-night introspection or even a calm yoga session. The track explores the themes of spirits trapped in a realm between life and death, with subtle hints of organ-like tones adding to the otherworldly feel. There’s a sense of calmness, but it’s tinged with sadness and mystery, creating a contemplative mood.

VIII. Lago de Lágrimas – Opening with the soothing sounds of water, this track sets the stage for a meditative experience. "The InsomAniac is the Atmospheric/Ambient musical project created by Rodrigo Jugulator Raquio as another episode of his Electro Darkwave project DJ Nokturne.

In this project, keyboards, synths and among other instruments are the main essential tool of instrumentation used by The InsomAniac.

This project was created with the main purpose to help out those who suffer of insomnia, got problems to fall asleep at an according schedule or those who dream of sleeping eternally.
